SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

When ignition is turned on, SRS indicator light should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off. If indicator does not come on, or does not go off after about 6 seconds or comes on while driving, air bag system must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible.

1. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. SRS is operational if AIR BAG warning light comes on and then goes out after about 6 seconds with engine off.
2. If AIR BAG warning light remains on, this indicates a fault in the SRS. If AIR BAG warning light fails to illuminate when ignition is first turned on, this indicates bulb is faulty or there is a fault in the wiring circuit to the bulb.

When ignition is turned on, SRS indicator light should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off. If indicator does not come on, or does not go off after about 6 seconds or comes on while driving, air bag system must be inspected as soon as possible.

Air bag system operation is normal if the SRS indicator light in instrument cluster flashes approximately 6 times and then goes out after ignition switch is turned to ON position.

1. Turn ignition ON and verify that AIR BAG indicator light comes on for about 7 seconds, then goes off. With seat belt fastened and ignition ON, the SEAT BELT indicator light should come on and seat belt warning chime should sound for about 7 seconds, then go off. If seat belt is not fastened, the seat belt warning chime should sound and SEAT BELT indicator light will stay on for longer than 7 seconds.
2. If the AIR BAG indicator light does not come on, or after about 7 seconds does not go out or begins to flash, a SRS malfunction has been detected.
3. On G20 and Q45 models, if the SEAT BELT indicator light does not come on, or stays on longer than 7 seconds with seat belt fastened, a seat belt pretensioner malfunction has been detected.

Turn ignition ON and verify that AIR BAG indicator light flashes 7 times, then turns off. AIR BAG indicator light should not come on during vehicle operation. If AIR BAG indicator light does not function as described, service air bag system.

1. To check air bag system, turn ignition switch from OFF to RUN position (engine off). If AIR BAG warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds, and then goes out, air bag system is functioning properly and no fault codes exist.
2. If a fault is detected in air bag system during initial system check, AIR BAG warning light will either fail to light, stay on continuously, or flash. If AIR BAG warning light flashes, indicating a fault in system, diagnose and repair system as necessary.
3. If a system fault exists and AIR BAG warning light fails to light, an audible tone will be heard, indicating AIR BAG warning light is out and service is required. The tone is a chime which sounds 5 sets of 5 beeps.

Turn ignition switch to ON position (with engine off). Air bag indicator light should come on for about 5 seconds and then go out. If SRS warning light does not illuminate, or illuminates and does not go out, service SRS. If SRS warning light comes on for about 5 seconds, then remains on, a fault code is set in memory.

Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Air bag indicator light in instrument cluster should come on for about 6 seconds, then go out. If indicator light remains on or flashes, a SRS malfunction has been detected.

1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. SRS MIL will illuminate for approximately 4 seconds and then go out. If vehicle is equipped with side air bags, SRS MIL will illuminate for approximately 4-20 seconds and then go out.
2. If vehicle is equipped with Seat Occupied Recognition (SOR) that includes Automatic Child Seat Recognition (ACSR), the ACSR AIRBAG OFF warning light will illuminate and then go out after approximately 4 seconds if a Mercedes-Benz Babysafe Child Seat is not installed. If a Mercedes-Benz Babysafe Child Seat is installed, AIRBAG OFF warning light will illuminate and verify the recognition of the Babysafe Child Seat.

Turn ignition switch to ON or START position. SRS warning light should illuminate for about 7 seconds and then turn off and remain off for at least 5 seconds indicating that SRS system is operating properly. If SRS warning light does not illuminate as described, stays on for more than 7 seconds or illuminates while driving, SRS is malfunctioning and needs repair.

1. Turn ignition ON and verify that AIR BAG indicator light comes on for about 7 seconds, then goes off.
2. If the AIR BAG indicator light does not come on, or after about 7 seconds does not go out or begins to flash, a SRS malfunction has been detected.

Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. AIR BAG light on instrument panel should come on for about 3 seconds and then go off. If AIR BAG light fails to come on, remains on after 3 seconds, or comes on while driving, air bag system requires servicing. Ignition must be in ON position for at least 10 seconds to enable the triggering unit to identify all faults in the air bag system.

Turn ignition on. AIR BAG warning light should come on for 3-4 seconds, then go out. If the light goes out and then comes back on, or does not come on at all, a fault exists in the system.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. Air bag warning light should illuminate for about 6 seconds. Keep ignition switch in ON position and confirm that air bag warning light remains off for about 6 seconds after being illuminated.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. On Aerio and XL-7, if system is functioning normally, AIR BAG indicator should flash 6 times. On Grand Vitara and Vitara, if system is functioning normally, AIR BAG indicator should flash 7 times. On all models, if air bag warning light does not come on, stays on steady or keeps flashing after flashing 6 or 7 times, there is a fault in the air bag system.

Note. When ignition switch is in ON or ACC position and SRS warning light remains on or flashes, the air bag sensor assembly has detected a malfunction code. If, after about 6 seconds, SRS warning light sometimes lights up or SRS warning light lights up even when ignition switch is OFF, a short in the SRS warning light circuit can be considered likely.

Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. SRS warning light should come on for about 6 seconds, then go out. If air bag warning light does not operate as specified, service air bag system.

1. Check that the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) indicator light is not defective by turning ignition key to ON position. SRS indicator light will illuminate and go out after approximately 7 seconds for all models except the C70 Convertible, which is 3 seconds or the S40 and V40 models, which is 10 seconds. Ensure SRS indicator light in combined instrument panel is not constantly illuminated. Repair SRS fault if SRS light is constantly illuminated.
2. If vehicle is equipped with Roll Over Protection (ROP) system, when the ignition is turned to ON position the ROP light should illuminate for approximately 5 seconds and then go out.
