HEADLIGHT LID

Fully raise headlights. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect motor link. (Scheme 2) Lower retractor hinge until hinge contacts stop. (Scheme 3) Adjust stop so headlight lid is even with fender and hood.

RETRACTOR MOTOR

  1. Disconnect retractor motor link. (Scheme 2) Disconnect retractor motor connector. Apply battery voltage across terminals "F" (positive) and "A" (negative) of the retractor motor connector. (Scheme 4) Leave battery voltage connected to these terminals.
  2. To raise headlight, apply battery voltage across terminals "C" (positive) and "A" (negative) of retractor motor connector. To lower headlight, apply battery voltage across terminals "D" (positive) and "A" (negative) of retractor motor connector. Replace retractor motor if it does not operate as specified.

RETRACTOR SWITCH

Remove retractor switch. With switch in OFF position, there should be continuity between terminals "B" and "F". (Scheme 5) With switch in ON position, there should be continuity between terminals "D" and "F". Replace retractor switch if continuity is not as specified.

HEADLIGHT SWITCH

Remove knee protector under steering column. Disconnect combination switch connector. (Scheme 6) Check continuity between specified terminals of combination switch connector. If continuity is not as specified, replace combination switch.

RETRACTOR RELAY

Remove relay. Check continuity between specified terminals of relay connector. See RETRACTOR RELAY TEST. (Scheme 7) If continuity is not as specified, replace relay.

BOTH RETRACTORS INOPERATIVE

  1. Turn on headlights. If retractors operate, go to step 6). If retractors do not operate, turn on retractor switch. If retractors now operate, go to step 5). If retractors do not operate, check RETRACTOR and HEAD fuses in main fuse block.
  2. If fuse is faulty, replace fuse (repair circuit if shorted). If fuse is okay, raise headlights using manual knobs on top of retractor motors. Disconnect retractor motor connectors. Turn on headlights and retractor switch.
  3. Check voltage at Red/Yellow wire terminal of each retractor motor connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, go to step 5).
  4. Disconnect retractor motor connectors. Check continuity between ground and Black wire terminal of each retractor motor connector. If there is no continuity, repair Black wire. If there is continuity, check retractor motor. See «RETRACTOR MOTOR TEST»(ref-34916-S04056544492001010900000) .
  5. Turn off headlight switch and retractor switch. With retractor relay installed, check voltage at specified terminals of retractor relay connector (backprobe connector) and take appropriate action. See «RETRACTOR RELAY VOLTAGE TEST»(ref-34916-S12738125402001010900000) . RETRACTOR SWITCH VOLTAGE TEST

ONE RETRACTOR INOPERATIVE

  1. Raise faulty headlight using manual knob on top of retractor motor. Disconnect retractor motor connector. Turn on headlight switch and retractor switch. Check voltage at Red/Yellow wire terminal of retractor motor connector. If no voltage is present, repair Red/Yellow wire.
  2. If battery voltage is present, check continuity between ground and Black wire terminal of retractor motor connector. If there is no continuity, repair Black wire. If there is continuity, check retractor motor. See «RETRACTOR MOTOR TEST»(ref-34916-S04056544492001010900000) .

INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON

Indicator light on instrument panel will come on while retractor motors are operating. If indicator light stays on after retractor motors stop, raise or lower headlights using manual knob on top of each retractor motor. Check for obstruction (such as pebbles, ice, etc.) lodged between headlight and vehicle body.
