Slide Lever
Slide lever control panel uses cables to control airflow mode, air-mix (temperature blend) mode and airflow source (fresh/recirculated air).
FRONT HEATER
Heater case, located under center of instrument panel, contains a heater core, airflow mode actuator, airflow mode door and air-mix (temperature blend) door. see scheme 9 Blower case, located under right end of instrument panel, contains blower motor, resistor, and fresh/recirculated air door. Blower motor relay is in left rear corner of engine compartment, in relay block. (Scheme 4)

REAR HEATER
Heater case, located under driver's seat, contains a heater core, blower motor, resistor, relay and heater control valve. see scheme 10 Rear in-vehicle temperature can be adjusted by moving control lever on heater case. Main switch on the instrument panel, marked REAR HEATER, must be on for blower motor to operate. Blower speed switch is on left wall, at intersection of headliner and wall.
Disconnect cable wire from airflow mode door lever and cable clip. see scheme 9 Slide airflow mode control lever to vent position. Fully rotate the airflow mode door lever in the direction it would rotate if the cable wire were attached to it; hold door lever in this position. Attach cable wire to door lever. Attach cable to its clip.
Disconnect cable wire from air-mix door lever and cable clip. see scheme 9 Set temperature control knob to maximum hot setting. Fully rotate the air-mix door lever to the right, and hold door lever in this position. Attach cable wire to door lever. Attach cable to its clip.
Disconnect cable wire from fresh/recirculated air door lever and cable clip on right side of blower case. Slide fresh/recirculated air control lever to fresh air setting. Note in which direction the cable wire moves. Fully rotate the door lever in the direction the cable wire moves; hold door lever in this position. Attach cable wire to door lever. Attach cable to its clip.
FRONT BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE
Check 15-amp AIR CON fuse (if equipped) in passenger compartment fuse block. Check 40-amp HEATER fuse in engine compartment main fuse block.
REAR BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE
Check 15-amp AIR CON fuse (if equipped) in passenger compartment fuse block. Check 40-amp ALL fuse in engine compartment main fuse block, and 15-amp in-line rear heater fuse.
FRONT BLOWER CIRCUIT
- Check 15-amp AIR CON fuse (if equipped) in passenger compartment fuse block. Check 40-amp HEATER fuse in engine compartment main fuse block. If either fuse is blown, repair wiring and replace fuse. If fuses are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Access engine compartment relay block, leaving connectors attached. (Scheme 4) Measure voltage at terminal "A" of blower motor relay connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair wiring between AIR CON fuse and blower motor relay.
- Measure voltage at terminal "B" of blower motor relay connector. If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair wiring between blower motor relay and ground.
- Measure voltage at terminal "C" of blower motor relay connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage does not exists, repair wiring between HEATER fuse and blower motor relay.
- Measure voltage at terminal "D" of blower motor relay connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, replace blower motor relay.
- Turn blower switch to highest speed setting. Measure voltage at Blue/Orange wire terminal of blower motor connector, located on bottom of blower case. If voltage does not exist, repair wiring between blower motor relay and blower motor. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
- Turn blower off. Measure voltage at terminal "C2" (Blue/Black wire) of 1-pin connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace blower motor.
- Measure voltage at terminal "H1" (Blue/White wire) of 4-pin connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace front blower resistor.
- Measure voltage at terminal "H2" (Blue/Red wire) of 4-pin connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace front blower resistor.
- Measure voltage at terminal "Me" (Blue/Black wire) of 4-pin connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace front blower resistor.
- Measure voltage at terminal "Lo" (Green wire) of 4-pin connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace front blower resistor.
- Turn blower switch to highest speed setting. Measure voltage at Black wire terminal of blower switch connector. If voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair wiring between blower switch and body ground.
- Turn blower off. Measure voltage at Blue/White wire terminal of blower switch connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair Blue/White wire between front blower resistor and blower switch.
- Measure voltage at Blue/Red wire terminal of blower switch connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair Blue/Red wire between front blower resistor and blower switch.
- Measure voltage at Blue/Black wire terminal of blower switch connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair Blue/Black wire between front blower resistor and blower switch.
- Measure voltage at Green wire terminal of blower switch connector. If battery voltage exists, replace blower switch. If voltage is not present, repair Green wire between front blower resistor and blower switch.
FRONT BLOWER MOTOR
Remove lower panel and undercover from right side of instrument panel. see scheme 11 Disconnect 2-pin connector from blower motor. Apply battery voltage across terminals. Replace blower motor if it does not operate.
FRONT BLOWER RESISTOR
Disconnect resistor connectors on bottom of blower case. (Scheme 5) Set ohmmeter to X1000 scale. Check continuity between indicated terminals. See FRONT BLOWER RESISTOR CONTINUITY TEST table. If continuity is not as specified, replace resistor.

FRONT BLOWER RESISTOR CONTINUITY TEST

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove lower panel from driver's side of instrument panel. see scheme 11 Disconnect actuator connector on left side of heater case. (Scheme 6) Apply battery voltage across terminals "j" and "k". Ensure actuator rotates door to defrost position. Reverse battery leads, and ensure actuator rotates door to vent position. Replace actuator if it does not function as indicated.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove lower panel and undercover from passenger's side of instrument panel. see scheme 11 Disconnect actuator connector on right side of blower case. (Scheme 7) Apply battery voltage across terminals "f" and "g". Reverse battery leads. Replace actuator if it does not move door in both directions.

FRONT BLOWER SWITCH
Remove lower panel and undercover from right side of instrument panel. Remove column cover. Remove instrument cluster and switch panel. Disconnect blower switch connector, and remove blower switch. Check continuity of blower switch terminals. See BLOWER SWITCH TEST table.

Note. Ensure test battery used in this test is fully charged.
Airflow Mode Selector
- Remove heater control panel. See «HEATER CONTROL PANEL»(ref-36727-S22790830032001010900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect positive battery cable to terminal "h", and ground terminal "g" of connector on back of control panel. (Scheme 8)
- Connect 1000-ohm resistor between terminals "n" and "g" of connector on back of control panel. Connect jumper wire between terminals "l" and "g". Measure voltage between terminals "n" and "g". If battery voltage exists, remove jumper wire and 1000-ohm resistor. Go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace heater control panel.
- Connect 1000-ohm resistor between terminals "m" and "g". Connect jumper wire between terminals "j" and "g". Measure voltage between terminals "m" and "g". If battery voltage exists, remove jumper wire and 1000-ohm resistor. Go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace heater control panel.
- Connect 1000-ohm resistor between terminals "h" and "n". Measure voltage between terminals "n" and "g". If voltage is less than one volt, remove jumper wire and 1000-ohm resistor. Go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, replace heater control panel.
- Connect 1000-ohm resistor between terminals "h" and "m". Measure voltage between terminals "m" and "g". If voltage is less than one volt, remove jumper wire and 1000-ohm resistor. Go to next step. If voltage is one volt ore more, replace heater control panel.
- Push indicated switch, and check continuity between appropriate terminals. See «AIRFLOW MODE SELECTOR SWITCH TEST»(ref-36727-S14778452022001010900000) table. If continuity is not as specified, replace heater control panel.

Fresh/Recirculated Air Selector Switch
- Remove heater control panel. See «HEATER CONTROL PANEL»(ref-36727-S22790830032001010900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect positive battery cable to terminal "h", and ground terminal "g" of connector on back of control panel. (Scheme 8)
- Connect 1000-ohm resistor between terminals "f" and "q". Ground terminal "o". Measure voltage between terminals "f" and "g". If battery voltage exists, remove jumper wire and 1000-ohm resistor. Go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace heater control panel.
- Push indicated switch. and check continuity between appropriate terminals. See «FRESH/RECIRCULATED AIR SELECTOR SWITCH TEST»(ref-36727-S40748799982001010900000) table. If continuity is not as specified, replace heater control panel.

FRESH/RECIRCULATED AIR SELECTOR SWITCH TEST
Light Emitting Diodes (LED)
- Remove heater control panel. See «HEATER CONTROL PANEL»(ref-36727-S22790830032001010900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect positive battery cable to terminal "h", and ground terminal "g" of connector on back of control panel. (Scheme 8)
- Push each switch on control panel, and ensure LED comes on. If any LED fails to come on, replace heater control panel. Connect jumper wire between terminals "h" and "s". LED should dim. If not, replace heater control panel.
Panel Illumination Light
- Remove heater control panel. See «HEATER CONTROL PANEL»(ref-36727-S22790830032001010900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect positive battery cable to terminal "h", and ground terminal "g" of connector on back of control panel. (Scheme 8)
- Connect jumper wire between terminals "h" and "s". Connect a second jumper wire between terminals "g" and "t". Control panel illumination light should come on. If not, replace bulb.
Scheme 9
- Check 15-amp AIR CON fuse (if equipped) in passenger compartment fuse block. Check 40-amp ALL fuse in engine compartment main fuse block and 10-amp in-line fuse on rear heater unit case. If any fuse is blown, repair wiring and replace fuse.
- If fuses are okay, disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect rear heater unit connector. (Scheme 9) Apply battery voltage to terminals "a" and "b", and ground terminals "c" and "f". If blower motor operates, go to step 6). If blower motor does not operate, go to next step.
- Check continuity between terminals "b" and "f". If continuity exists, go to next step. If there is no continuity, test rear heater relay. See «REAR HEATER RELAY»(ref-36727-S08314431912001010900000). If relay is okay, test rear blower motor. See «REAR BLOWER MOTOR»(ref-36727-S38658582232001010900000).
- Check continuity between terminals "c" and "d". If there is no continuity, replace rear blower resistor. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between terminals "c" and "e". If there is no continuity, replace rear blower resistor. If continuity exists, check rear heater relay. See «REAR HEATER RELAY»(ref-36727-S08314431912001010900000). If relay is okay, test rear blower motor. See «REAR BLOWER MOTOR»(ref-36727-S38658582232001010900000).
- Turn ignition on. Turn off rear heater main switch and rear heater blower switch. Reconnect rear heater connector. Measure voltage at Blue wire terminal of rear heater connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair wiring between AIR CON fuse and rear heater unit.
- Measure voltage at Black/Yellow wire terminal of rear heater connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair wiring between ALL fuse and rear heater unit.
- Turn rear main heater switch on, leaving rear blower off. Measure voltage at terminal "a" (Blue wire) of rear heater main switch connector. (Scheme 10) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair wiring between AIR CON fuse (if equipped) in passenger compartment fuse block and rear heater main switch.
- Measure voltage at terminal "h" (Red/Blue wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair wiring between rear heater unit and rear heater main switch.
- Measure voltage at terminal "i" (Blue/Black wire). If battery voltage exists, check rear heater blower switch. See REAR BLOWER SWITCH. If voltage is not present, replace rear heater main switch.
Scheme 10
REAR BLOWER MOTOR
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove rear heater unit. Disconnect rear heater blower motor connector. Apply battery voltage to Black wire terminal, and ground Blue/Black wire terminal. (Scheme 9) Replace blower motor if it does not operate. If blower motor operates, repair rear heater unit wiring harness.
REAR BLOWER RESISTOR
Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect rear heater unit connector. Set ohmmeter to X1000 scale. Check continuity between Blue/White wire, Blue/Red wire and Blue/Black wire terminals of rear heater unit connector. If continuity does not exist between indicated terminals, replace rear blower resistor.
REAR BLOWER SWITCH
Remove rear blower switch. Check continuity between indicated terminals. See REAR BLOWER SWITCH TEST table. If continuity is not as specified, replace rear blower switch. If continuity is correct, check wiring between rear heater unit, rear blower switch and body ground.

REAR BLOWER SWITCH TEST
REAR HEATER RELAY
- Remove rear heater relay from rear heater unit. see scheme 10 Using ohmmeter, check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4. (Scheme 11) Continuity should not exist.
- Check continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2. Ensure continuity exists. Apply battery voltage between terminals No. 1 and 2. Ensure continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 4 with voltage applied. If continuity is not as specified, replace rear heater relay.

Remove rear heater main switch. Check continuity between indicated switch terminals. See REAR HEATER MAIN SWITCH TEST table. Replace switch if continuity is not as specified.
