REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Note. Use illustrations for aide in removal and installation. see scheme 1

Scheme 2: Removal
  1. Support engine using Engine Support (49-G017-5A0). Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove axle lock nut and splash shields. Remove transverse member. (Scheme 2) Disconnect power steering hoses from power steering rack. Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Reference mark lower steering column-to-intermediate shaft.
  2. Remove engine mount member. Remove No. 1 engine mount bolts. Remove shock assembly-to-lower control arm bolt. Remove tie rod end ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate tie rod end ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-304).
  3. Remove upper lateral link ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate upper lateral link ball stud from steering knuckle using puller. Using rope, secure axle shaft in place. Separate axle shaft from steering knuckle.
  4. Remove lower control arm ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate lower control arm ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-305). Remove stabilizer link-to-lower control arm nut. Separate stabilizer link from lower control arm. Remove gusset from lower control arm.
  5. Using a jack, support front suspension crossmember. Remove crossmember retaining nuts. Carefully lower crossmember enough to gain clearance. Remove lower control arm mounting bolts and lower control arm.

Bushing Replacement

Press lower arm bushing using Remover/Installer (49-T034-204 and 49-W034-306).

Installation

To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten lower control arm-to-frame bolts to specification with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Stake lower ball joint nut.

  1. Remove splash shields. Remove transverse member. Support engine using Engine Support (49-G017-5A0). Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assemblies. Disconnect power steering hoses and pressure pipe from power steering rack. Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Reference mark lower steering column-to-intermediate shaft.
  2. Remove engine mount member. Remove No. 1 engine mount bolts. Remove shock assembly-to-lower control arm bolts. Disconnect stabilizer link from stabilizer bar. Using a jack, support front suspension crossmember. Remove crossmember retaining nuts. Carefully lower crossmember enough to gain clearance. Remove stabilizer bar brackets and bushing. Remove stabilizer bar. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-127908-S03785936832001103000000) .

Removal

Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Disconnect brakeline flexhose and ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness from bottom of shock assembly. Remove shock-to-lower control arm retaining bolt. Remove shock upper mount nuts. Remove shock lower bolt. Remove shock assembly.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Place identification mark of mounting block in original position. Fully tighten all bolts with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded.   1. Support engine using Engine Support (49-G017-5A0). Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly and splash shields. Remove axle lock nut. Remove transverse member. (Scheme 2) Disconnect power steering hoses from power steering rack. Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Reference mark lower steering column-to-intermediate shaft.
  2. Remove engine mount member. Remove No. 1 engine mounting bolts. Remove shock assembly-to-lower control arm bolt. Remove upper lateral link ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate upper lateral ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-304).
  3. Using jack, support front suspension crossmember. Remove crossmember retaining nuts. Carefully lower crossmember enough to gain clearance. Mark cam plate-to-crossmember for installation purposes. Remove nut, cam plate and adjusting cam bolt. Remove upper lateral link.

Raise and support vehicle. Remove snap pin and nut. Remove leading link ball joint. Separate upper leading link ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-304). Remove upper leading link. Remove dust boot.

To replace upper lateral link bushing use Remover/Installer (49-G030-797, 49-T034-203 and 49-T034-001).

To install, reverse removal procedure. Fully tighten bolts to specification with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove axle lock nut. Remove brake caliper, and wire aside. Remove brake rotor. Remove ABS wheel speed sensor. Remove tie rod end ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate tie rod end ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-304).
  2. Remove upper leading link ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate upper leading link ball stud from steering knuckle using puller. Remove upper lateral link ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate upper lateral link ball stud from steering knuckle using puller.
  3. Remove lower control arm ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate lower control arm ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-305). Using a rope, secure drive axle in place. Separate drive axle from steering knuckle. Remove steering knuckle assembly from vehicle.
  4. Using press, separate hub from steering knuckle. Place alignment marks on dust cover. Separate and remove dust cover. Remove snap ring and oil seal. Using press, remove bearing from steering knuckle. If bearing inner race remains on hub, grind race until 0.02" (0.5 mm) remains, and remove remaining race using a chisel.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust wheel bearing preload. See WHEEL BEARING under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
