Wiper/washer Systems 2 illustrations ~363 words

FRONT WIPER ARM

Ensure wiper motor is in park position. Position wiper arm and blade assembly so tip of blade is at specified distance above front window trim. See FRONT WIPER ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS .

FRONT WIPER MOTOR CONTINUITY

Note. Use illustration when performing the following tests. (Scheme 1)

Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. With wiper motor in park position, ensure continuity exists between wiper motor terminals "A", "B" and "C". With wiper motor in any other position than park, continuity should exist between wiper motor terminals "A" and "C", and "B" and "D". If continuity is not as specified, replace wiper motor.

FRONT WIPER MOTOR LOW SPEED

Note. Use illustration when performing the following tests. (Scheme 1)

Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Connect battery voltage to wiper motor terminal "C". Connect ground to wiper motor housing. Motor should run at low speed. If wiper motor does not operate as specified, replace motor.

FRONT WIPER MOTOR HIGH SPEED

Note. Use illustration when performing the following tests. (Scheme 1)

Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Connect battery voltage to wiper motor terminal "A". Connect ground to wiper motor housing. Motor should run at high speed. If wiper motor does not operate as specified, replace motor.

FRONT WASHER MOTOR

Disconnect washer motor connector. Apply battery voltage to Blue/Orange wire terminal of washer motor. Connect Black wire terminal of washer motor to ground. If washer motor does not operate, replace motor.

FRONT WIPER/WASHER SWITCH

Note. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.

INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY

  1. Locate intermittent relay behind left side of instrument panel. Leave intermittent relay connecter attached. Using DVOM, measure voltage at specified terminals of intermittent relay connector (backprobe connector). (Scheme 2)
  2. Disconnect intermittent relay connector and check continuity at specified terminals. If voltage measurements or continuity are not as specified, check related components and wiring harnesses. (Scheme 2) If related components amd wiring harnesses are okay, but system is still not functioning properly, replace intermittent relay.

REAR WIPER/WASHER SWITCH

Note. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.

FRONT WIPER MOTOR

CAUTIONDO NOT remove wiper motor arm unless necessary. If wiper motor arm removal is necessary, mark wiper arm position on adapter plate or motor housing for reassembly.

Note. See COMBINATION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
