Engine Controls - Remove/install/overhaul - 2.3L: Other Mazda Millenia I

IGNITION SYSTEM

Note. Millenia 2.3L is equipped with distributorless ignition system.

IGNITION CONTROL MODULE

Note. Each ignition coil has an integral control module. Ignition control module may also be referred to as coil-on-plug.

FUEL SYSTEM

WARNING

Always relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components.

FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

Start engine. Disconnect fuel pump relay. See «FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATION»(ref-18775-S39595877272000123000000) table.
Allow engine to run until it stalls. Turn ignition off. Reconnect electrical connector.

FUEL SYSTEM PRIMING

CAUTION

After performing fuel system repairs, use following procedure to prime fuel system before starting engine. This prevents excessive engine cranking and allows system to be leak-tested.

Connect jumper wire between GND and F/P terminals of data link connector. (Scheme 3) Turn ignition on for about 10 seconds and then off. Disconnect jumper wire.
