REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove engine splash shield (if equipped). Remove stabilizer bar link from lower control arm (626).
- Remove pinch bolt for lower ball joint. Separate lower control arm ball joint stud from knuckle. Remove lower control arm pivot bolts and remove lower control arm.
Bushing Replacement (Protege)
Cut away projecting rubber from front bushing. Using a vise, Remover/Installer (49-B034-2A2) and socket, push out front bushing. To install front bushing, apply soapy water to bushing and use remover/installer to press in. Always install bushing from outer side of arm. Press in bushing until collar contacts arm. Press rear bushing out using Remover (49-B034-212 and 49-G034-202). Align mark on lower arm with small projection on lower arm bushing. Press bushing in using Installer (49-B034-212 and 49-B034-211).
Bushing Replacement (626)
Cut away projecting rubber from front bushing. Using a vise and Remover/Installer (49-B034-2A0B), push out front bushing. To install, apply soapy water to bushing and use remover/installer to press in. Always install bushing from outer side of arm. Press in bushing until collar contacts arm.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten lower control arm-to-frame bolts to specification with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove stabilizer control link. Remove stabilizer bracket and bushing. Remove front stabilizer bar.
- Inspect all components for wear, bends or damage. Replace components as necessary.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure frame bushing is aligned with White line on stabilizer bar. Ensure seam faces front of vehicle. Fully tighten all bolts with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-2979-S18835298062000041700000) .
Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Disconnect brake line from strut assembly (626). Disconnect wheel speed sensor (if equipped). Remove stabilizer link nut on srtut (Protege). Remove lower strut assembly-to knuckle bolts. Remove nuts attaching upper strut assembly to body panel. Remove strut assembly.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Place identification mark of mounting block in original position. Fully tighten all bolts with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded. - Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove axle lock nut. Remove brake caliper, and wire aside. Remove rotor. Remove tie rod end cotter pin and nut. Separate tie rod end ball stud from knuckle. Separate lower control arm ball joint stud from knuckle. Remove bolts retaining steering knuckle to strut assembly. Separate hub and knuckle from drive shaft.
- Press wheel hub from knuckle. Place alignment marks on dust cover. Separate and remove dust cover. Remove snap ring and oil seal. Press bearing from knuckle. If bearing inner race remains on hub, grind race until 0.02" (0.5 mm) remains, and remove remaining race using chisel.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust wheel bearing preload. See WHEEL BEARING under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
