Starting System: Removal & Installation Mazda 6 GG

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGWhen battery cables are connected, touching the vehicle body with starter terminal B will generate sparks. This can cause personal injury, fire, and damage to electrical components. Be sure to disconnect the battery before performing the following operation.

Note. On models with anti-theft system, obtain code number and deactivate audio anti-theft system before disconnecting battery.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner.
  3. Remove the under cover.
  4. Remove the clutch release cylinder.
  5. Remove components as numbered in the illustration. Numbers in parenthesis reference numbers in the illustration. Terminal "B" wire (1), terminal "S" wire (2) and starter (3). (Scheme 6)
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal. Tighten starter bolts to specifications. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-169146-S33150156212004113000000).

  1. Remove the battery and battery tray.
  2. Remove the air cleaner.
  3. Disconnect the selector cable and bracket from transaxle.
  4. Remove components as numbered in the illustration. Numbers in parenthesis reference numbers in the illustration. Terminal "B" wire (1), terminal "S" wire (2) and starter (3). (Scheme 7)
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal. Tighten starter bolts to specifications. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-169146-S33150156212004113000000).
