BASIC INSPECTION [FS5A-EL]

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1Perform the mechanical system test. (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST [FS5A-EL] .) Is the mechanical system normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.
2Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. When the selector lever is moved, does the gear position indicator light indication correspond to the selector lever position? Also, when other ranges are selected from N or P during idling, does the vehicle move within 1-2 s?YesGo to the next step.
NoInspect the selector lever and TR switch. Repair or replace malfunctioning parts. (See SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION .) (See TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION [FS5A-EL] .) If the selector lever and TR switch are normal, go to the next step.
3Inspect the ATF color and condition. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION [FS5A-EL] .) Are the ATF color and odor normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result. Flush the ATX and cooler line if necessary.
4Perform the line pressure test. (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST [FS5A-EL] .) Is the line pressure normal?YesGo to the next step.

Diagnostic procedure

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1When the vehicle is stopped on a flat, level road and the engine is off, does the vehicle move when pushed? (in D range or N, R positions with the brake pedal released)YesGo to the next step.
NoInspect for parking mechanism. (See .)
2Disconnect the TCM connector. Is the resistance between the GND terminal at the TCM connector and the body GND less than 5.0 ohms?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair open GND circuit.
3Inspect the value at the following TCM PID using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [FS5A-EL] .) LPS Is the PID value normal?YesOverhaul the control valve body and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. (See .) If any problem remains, overhaul the transaxle and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. (See .)
NoRepair or replace any malfunctioning parts.
4Verify the test results. If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. NoRepair the shift solenoid A or E control circuit. Reconnect the TCM connector.
5Inspect the shift solenoid A and E. (See SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION (PRIMARY CONTROL VALVE BODY) [FS5A-EL] .) Are the shift solenoids operating properly?YesReplace the TCM.
NoOverhaul the control valve body and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. (See .) If any problem remains, overhaul the transaxle and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. (See .)
6Verify the test results. If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. NoRepair the open GND circuit.
3Inspect the resistance between shift solenoid A and E control circuit at the TCM connector and control valve body connector. Inspect the resistance between shift solenoid A/E circuit at the TCM connector and control valve body connector. Are the resistances less than 5.0 ohms?YesGo to the next step.
NoRepair the shift solenoid A and/or E circuit.
4Inspect the shift solenoid. (See SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION (PRIMARY CONTROL VALVE BODY) [FS5A-EL] .) Is the solenoid valve operating properly?YesGo to the next step.
NoOverhaul the control valve body and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. (See .) If any problem remains, overhaul the transaxle and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts. (See .)
