DESCRIPTION
The heater assembly is located inside the passenger compartment. A heater control valve regulates coolant flow which determines heat output. The heater assembly contains the heater core, heater control valve, air ducts, blower motor and intake ducts. System is a blend-air type.
AIR FLOW CONTROL
The air flow control directs air through selected ducts leading to individual air vents. The desired mode is selected by sliding the control panel lever.
"RECIRC/FRESH" SELECTOR LEVER
The air intake control lever permits selection of outside fresh air or inside recirculated air. Selection is actuated by sliding control lever.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Desired air temperature is selected by sliding temperature control lever right for hot, left for cold.
FAN SPEED CONTROL
Fan speed control lever positions are: off ("O"), low ("1"), medium/low ("2"), medium/high ("3") and high ("4").
MODE WIRE ADJUSTMENT
Set mode control knob to defrost. Pull mode lever downward to its extreme stop and install control wire end-loop onto lever. Pull connecting rod downward to its extreme stop. Use clip to install connecting rod to fastener. Set fan speed to "4" and ensure proper air circulation.
AIR-MIX (TEMPERATURE) DOOR CONTROL WIRE ADJUSTMENT
Set temperature lever to cold. Pull wire lever downward to its extreme stop. Attach air-mix wire loop onto lever. Pull connecting rod lever upward to its extreme stop. Use clip to install connecting rod to fastener. Ensure proper operation of temperature control.
RECIRCULATION/FRESH AIR SELECTION WIRE ADJUSTMENT
Set selector lever at fresh air intake position. Push lever forward to its extreme stop and attach control wire end-loop to lever. Ensure proper operation of "RECIRC/FRESH" air selector control.
NO BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION TEST
Inoperable blower motor can be caused by open circuit breaker, open or loose connection in circuit, defective ignition relay, defective blower switch, defective A/C switch (if equipped), open circuit in resistor assembly, or defective blower motor. Reset, repair or replace as required.
BLOWER RESISTOR ASSEMBLY TEST
Remove resistor from underneath blower unit. Disconnect short circuit connector to ensure continuity between each terminal. Maximum resistance should be 4 ohms. (Scheme 1) If resistance is not correct, replace resistor. Do not touch resistor coil as this may cause faulty fan speed control.

Removal & Installation
- Remove passenger side instrument panel undercover. Remove glove box. Remove Black sheet metal glove box stay. Remove duct between blower unit and heater unit.
- Remove 3 blower unit mounting nuts. Remove "RECIRC/FRESH" air selector wire and disconnect electrical connector. Remove blower unit. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Manufacturer does not provide removal and installation procedures. Remove heater unit as illustrated. (Scheme 2)
