COOLING FAN MOTOR
Connect ammeter between battery and cooling fan motor connector. (Scheme 1) Ensure fan motor operates smoothly at specified current. Check current draw against COOLING FAN MOTOR CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS table. If fan draws more than specified amperage, check wiring. If wiring is okay, replace fan.

COOLING FAN MOTOR CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS
Scheme 1
COOLING FAN MOTOR (323 NON-TURBO)
Connect ammeter between battery and cooling fan motor connector. (Scheme 1) Ensure fan motor operates smoothly at specified current, according to both connections. Check current draw against COOLING FAN MOTOR CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS table. If fan draws more than specified amperage, check wiring. If wiring is okay, replace fan.
Scheme 2
COOLING FAN MOTOR (323 TURBO 4WD)
- Disconnect cooling fan motor connectors. Ensure power feed is approximately 12 volts. Connect ammeter between battery and cooling fan motor connector. (Scheme 2)
- Ensure fan motor operates smoothly at both speed operations and specified current. Check current draw against COOLING FAN MOTOR CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS table. See VIEW "A" for low speed operation and VIEW "B" for high speed operation. If fan draws more than specified amperage, check wiring. If wiring is okay, replace fan.

THERMO SWITCH
Remove thermo switch, located left of distributor, and check continuity. Suspend switch in container filled with water and heat. (Scheme 3) Switch is normally closed. Continuity should exist at less than 207°F (97°C) and circuit should open above specified temperature. If continuity does NOT exist as indicated, replace thermo switch.
COOLING FAN RELAY (NON-TURBO)
Cooling fan relay is round relay located to left of coolant recovery bottle. To test relay, disconnect electrical connector with ignition ON. The fan should run. If fan doesn't run, check fuse and wiring. If fuse and wiring are okay, check/replace relay.

COOLING FAN RELAY (TURBO)
- Cooling fan relay is located to left of coolant recovery bottle. (Scheme 4) To test relay, disconnect thermoswitch connector with ignition ON. If fan motor runs, relay is okay. If fan motor does NOT run, proceed to step 2).
- Check fan relay continuity between terminals "A" and "B," "C" and "D." (Scheme 5) Ensure no continuity exists between terminals "A" and "B" when battery voltage is applied across terminals "C" and "D." If relay is faulty, replace it. If relay is okay, check fuse and wiring.

COOLING FAN NO. 1 & NO. 2 RELAYS (TURBO 4WD)
- Perform cooling fan relay check for 323 DOHC before testing No. 1 and No. 2 relays. Both relays are the same.
- For location of No. 1 and No. 2 relays (Scheme 5) Disconnect radiator switch connector at radiator. Ensure fan runs with ignition ON. If fan does not run, proceed to step 3).
- Check fan relay continuity between terminals "A" and "B," "C" and "F." (Scheme 6) Ensure no continuity exists between terminals "C" and "F" when battery voltage is applied across terminals "A" and "B." Replace faulty relay. If relay is okay, check fuse and wiring.
Note. DO NOT disconnect radiator switch connector with ignition ON. Fan will turn.
RADIATOR SWITCH (DOHC 4WD)
Turn ignition OFF. Remove radiator switch from radiator. Suspend switch in container filled with water and heat. Connect ohmmeter between terminal connectors and switch base. Switch is normally closed and should open above 221°F (105°C). If switch does respond as indicated, replace it.
