WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

CAUTIONPerforming the following procedures without first removing the ABS wheel-speed sensor may possibly cause an open circuit in the wiring harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before performing the following procedures, disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector (axle side) and fix the wiring harness to an appropriate place where it will not be pulled by mistake while servicing the vehicle.
  1. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  2. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  3. After installation, inspect the front wheel alignment and adjust it if necessary. (See «FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(ref-579354-S22674566482013100700000) .)

Scheme 4: Brake Caliper Component Removal Note
  1. Remove the retaining clip, mounting support installing bolt and suspend it out of the way using a cable. (Scheme 4): Suspending Brake Caliper

Scheme 5

Scheme 5: Wheel Hub, Steering Knuckle Component Removal Note
  1. Separate the shock absorber from the wheel hub, steering knuckle component by tapping the upper part of the steering knuckle with a hammer. (Scheme 5): Tapping Upper Part Of Steering Knuckle With Hammer

Scheme 6: Wheel Hub, Steering Knuckle Component Installation Note
  1. Apply grease (L2Y1 33247) to the wheel bearing inner race and drive shaft contact surface (Area A in figure). (Scheme 6): Identifying Grease Applying Areas Of Wheel Bearing Inner Race And Drive Shaft Contact Surface
  2. Install the wheel hub, steering knuckle component.

Front Lower Arm Ball Joint Installation Note

Note. The bolt insertion direction can be either front or rear of the vehicle, however, keep the insertion direction the same on both the left and right sides of the vehicle.

Scheme 7: WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY
  1. Disassemble in the order indicated in the table. (Scheme 7): Wheel Hub, Steering Knuckle With Torque Specifications
  2. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Scheme 8

Scheme 8: Wheel Hub Component Removal Note
  1. Remove the wheel hub component using the SSTs. (Scheme 8): Removing Wheel Hub Using SSTs
  2. If the bearing inner race remains on the front wheel hub component, perform the following procedure

Scheme 9

Scheme 9: Without using SST
  1. Grind a section of the bearing inner race until approx. 0.5 mm {0.02 in} remains. (Scheme 9): Grinding Section Of Bearing Inner Race (Using SST)
  2. Remove the bearing inner race using a chisel.

Scheme 12

Scheme 12
  1. Remove the part as shown in the figure. (Scheme 10): Removing Part
  2. Position the SSTs and a spare bolt (M10 length 90 mm {3.5 in} or less) as shown in the figure. (Scheme 11): Removing Bearing Inner Race CAUTION: When tightening section A, tighten section B securely because the engagement of the SST tab is shallow and it can come off easily.
  3. Tighten SST section A until the space between the bearing inner race and wheel hub component is 1-2 mm {0.04-0.07 in}. (Scheme 12): Identifying Clearance Between Bearing Inner Race And Wheel Hub Component
  4. Temporarily loosen SST section A and position the SST again.
  5. Tighten SST section A and remove the bearing inner race.

  1. Remove the wheel bearing using the SSTs. (Scheme 13): Removing Wheel Bearing Using SSTs

Wheel Hub Bolt Removal Note

Note. The hub bolts do not need to be removed unless they are being replaced.

Scheme 19

Scheme 19
  1. Remove the brake calliper component and disc plate. (See «WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-579353-S06127752602013100700000).)
  2. Remove the wheel hub bolt using the SST as shown in the figure. (Scheme 19): Removing Wheel Hub Bolt Using SST NOTE: When removing the wheel hub bolts, perform the work between range A shown in the figure to assure a space for the bolt removal.
  3. Place a new wheel hub bolt in the wheel hub.
  4. Install the wheel hub by placing a proper sized washer on the hub, and tightening the nut as shown in the figure. see scheme 20: Installing Wheel Hub Bolt
