Transaxle Installation Note

CAUTIONVerify that the torque converter stud bolts are inserted into the drive plate bolt holes, and install the transaxle installation bolts. Otherwise, the drive plate could be damaged.

  1. Install the No.4 engine mount bracket to the transaxle case, and then tighten the nuts. (Scheme 415): Identifying No.4 Engine Mount Bracket And Nuts Tightening torque 94-116 N.m {9.6-11 kgf.m, 70-85 ft.lbf}
  2. Install the No.1 engine mount bracket to the converter housing, and then tighten the bolts. (Scheme 416): Locating No.1 Engine Mount Bracket Bolts Tightening torque 94-112 N.m {9.6-11 kgf.m, 70-82 ft.lbf}
  3. Install the No.1 engine mount rubber to the front crossmember, and then temporarily tighten the bolts. (Scheme 417): Locating No.1 Engine Mount Rubber And Bolts CAUTION: Tighten the bolts while being careful of their length to prevent interference between the steering gear housing and bolt. Bolt stem length Front crossmember side: 62 mm {2.4 in} No.1 engine mount bracket side: 65 mm {2.6 in}
  4. Align the No.4 engine mount rubber installation hole to the stud bolts on the body. (Scheme 418): Aligning No.4 Engine Mount Rubber Installation Hole To Stud Bolts On Body
  5. Install the No.4 engine mount rubber to the No.4 engine mount bracket, and then tighten the bolt. Tightening torque 94-152 N.m {9.6-15 kgf.m, 70-112 ft.lbf}
  6. Tighten the No.1 engine mount rubber installation bolts in the order shown. (Scheme 419): Identifying No.1 Engine Mount Rubber Installation Bolts Tightening Order Tightening torque 73-90 N.m {7.5-9.1 kgf.m, 54-66 ft.lbf}
  7. Align the battery tray bracket installation hole to the stud bolts on the body. (Scheme 420): Aligning Battery Tray Bracket Installation Hole To Stud Bolts On Body
  8. Install the battery tray bracket to the No.4 engine mount rubber, and then tighten the nuts. Tightening torque 44-61 N.m {4.5-6.2 kgf.m, 33-44 ft.lbf}
  9. Remove the SSTs.

  1. Fix the crankshaft pulley to lock the torque converter against rotation. (Scheme 421): Locking Torque Converter Against Rotation CAUTION: After temporarily tightening the torque converter installation nut uniformly, tighten it to the specified torque.

  2. Remove in the order indicated in the table. (Scheme 424): Identifying Drive Plate Removal Order With Torque Specifications
  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  2. Loosen the drive plate installation bolts uniformly in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure, then remove the bolts and the drive plate.

  2. Tighten the new drive plate installation bolts uniformly in two or three steps in the order shown in the figure. Tightening torque 108-116 N.m {11.1-11.8 kgf.m, 80-85 ft.lbf}

Scheme 427: OIL SEAL (DIFFERENTIAL) REPLACEMENT [FW6A-EL]
  1. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2 and the splash shield as a single unit. (See «AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520448-S37186396192013010300000).) (See «SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520448-S04813808932013010300000).)
  2. Remove the oil seal. Drain the ATF. (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [FW6A-EL]»(ref-520432-S01564407482013010300000).) Disconnect the drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle. (See «DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520449-S31417677802013010300000).) Disconnect the drive shaft (RH) from the joint shaft. (See «DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520449-S31417677802013010300000).) Remove the joint shaft. (See «JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520449-S28089747042013010300000).) CAUTION: The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the drive shaft splines. Do not let the splines contact the oil seal. Remove the oil seal using a flathead screwdriver.
  3. Using the SSTs and a hammer, tap a new oil seal in evenly until the SST ( 49 U027 003 ) contacts the transaxle case. (Scheme 427): Tapping Oil Seal In Evenly Until SST (49 U027 003) Contacts Transaxle Case
  4. Coat the lip of the oil seal with ATF.
  5. Install the joint shaft. (See «JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520449-S28089747042013010300000).)
  6. Install the drive shaft (RH) to the joint shaft. (See «DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520449-S31417677802013010300000).)
  7. Install the drive shaft (LH) to the transaxle. (See «DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520449-S31417677802013010300000).)
  8. Add the ATF. (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [FW6A-EL]»(ref-520432-S01564407482013010300000).)

  1. Remove the battery cover. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520427-S28538867222013010300000).)
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520427-S28538867222013010300000).)
  3. Remove the air cleaner component. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520422-S09166380872013010300000).)
  4. Disconnect the control valve body connector. (Scheme 428): Identifying Control Valve Body Connector
  5. Remove the hose clamp. (Scheme 429): Identifying Hose Clamp
  6. Cut the oil seal using a utility knife as shown in the following illustration. (Scheme 430): Cutting Oil Seal Using Utility Knife CAUTION: Do not damage the transaxle case. Do not damage the control valve body coupler connector. To prevent foreign matter penetration, clean the oil seal part before cutting the oil seal.
  7. Using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver, remove the oil seal from the transaxle case. (Scheme 431): Removing Oil Seal From Transaxle Case Using Tape-Wrapped Flathead Screwdriver NOTE: Remove the oil seal by tapping the tip of a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver on the inner circumference surface A area of the oil seal.   8. Temporarily install the oil seal (control valve body) by hand.
  9. Using the SSTs and a hammer, install the oil seal (control valve body) so that it is not tilted and there is no height difference between the transaxle case surface and the end surface of the oil seal. (Scheme 433): Installing Oil Seal (Control Valve Body) CAUTION: When installing the oil seal (control valve body), do not mistakenly hit the control valve body connector with the hammer. Otherwise the control valve body connector could be damaged making it no longer waterproof.
  10. Install a new hose clamp to the position shown in the figure. CAUTION: If the hose clamp is reused it could cause ATF leakage, therefore use a new hose clamp. Install the hose clamp tab to within the range shown in the figure. (Scheme 434): Identifying Hose Clamp Tab Install Range A:210° CAUTION: Install the hose clamp so that it does not interfere with the top and bottom flanges of the oil seal to maintain the waterproofing integrity.   11. Connect the control valve body connector. CAUTION: Make sure that your hand does not touch the terminal as the connector terminal could be damaged. Verify that there is no fluid or foreign matter adhering to the connector before connecting the connector. Insert the connector straight as the connector terminal could be damaged. Rotate the connector lever until a click is heard. (Scheme 436): Identifying Control Valve Body Connector
  12. Install the air cleaner component. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520422-S09166380872013010300000).)
  13. Connect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520427-S28538867222013010300000).)
  14. Install the battery cover. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520427-S28538867222013010300000).)

  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520427-S28538867222013010300000).)
  3. Remove the aerodynamic under cover NO.2. (See «AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-520448-S37186396192013010300000).)

  6. Remove in the order indicated in the table. (Scheme 437): Identifying Oil Cooler Removal Order With Torque Specifications
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  8. Add the engine coolant. (See «ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]»(ref-520423-S34603428342013010300000).)
  9. Add the ATF. (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT [FW6A-EL]»(ref-520432-S01564407482013010300000).)

  1. Install the water hose to the oil cooler as shown in the figure with the hose clamp expanded. NOTE: A new water hose and hose clamp are attached. (Scheme 438): Installing Water Hose To Oil Cooler
  2. Install the hose clamp to the position shown in the figure. (Scheme 439): Installing Hose Clamp To Position Verify that the installation angle of the hose clamp is within the range shown in the figure.
  3. Verify that the hose clamp does not interfere with any other components.
