BRAKE FLUID AIR BLEEDING
| CAUTION | Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Be careful not to spill any on painted surfaces. If it is spilled, wipe it off immediately. |
Note. Keep the fluid level in the reserve tank at 3/4 full or more during the air bleeding. Begin air bleeding with the brake caliper that is furthest from the master cylinder.
Brake fluid type
- SAE J1703 or FMVSS116 DOT-3
Scheme 83
- Remove the cap from the brake fluid reserved tank and add brake fluid.
- Remove the bleeder cap on the brake caliper, and attach a vinyl tube to the bleeder screw.
- Place the other end of the vinyl tube in a clear container and fill the container with fluid during air bleeding.
- Working with two people, one should pump the brake pedal several times and depress and hold the pedal down.
- While the brake pedal is depressed, the other should loosen the bleeder screw using a commercially available flare nut wrench, drain out any fluid containing air bubbles, and tighten the bleeder screw. - Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until no air bubbles are seen.
- Perform air bleeding as described in the above procedures for all brake calipers.
- After air bleeding, inspect the following: Brake operation Fluid leakage Fluid level

- Verify that air can be blown from the power brake unit side of the vacuum hose towards the intake manifold side, and that air cannot be blown in the opposite direction. (Scheme 84): Identifying Position Of Check Valve (MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5 And MZR 2.3 DISI Turbo) If there is any malfunction of the inner check valve, replace it together with the vacuum hose as a single unit.

- Verify that air can be blown from the power brake unit side of the vacuum hose towards the vacuum pump side, and that air cannot be blown in the opposite direction. (Scheme 85): Identifying Position Of Check Valve (SKYACTIV-G 2.0) If there is any malfunction of the inner check valve, replace it together with the vacuum hose as a single unit.

- Insert a thin flathead screwdriver at the point indicated by the arrow in the figure, push the ring down and disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold. (Scheme 87): Locating Position Of Inserting Thin Flathead Screwdriver

- Disconnect the vacuum hose connector from the power brake unit while pressing the tabs of the vacuum hose connector. (Scheme 89): Pressing Vacuum Hose Connector Tabs
- Remove the vacuum hose.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Insert the vacuum hose connector to the power brake unit.

- Verify that the vacuum hose is inserted so that the joint contacts the intake manifold ring. (Scheme 91): Identifying Contacts Of Joint With Intake Manifold Ring

- Pinch open the clamp using pliers and disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump.
- Move the vacuum hose as shown in the figure. (Scheme 93): Moving Vacuum Hose

- Remove the vacuum hose.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Insert the vacuum hose connector to the power brake unit.

- Pinch open the clamp using pliers and disconnect the vacuum hose from the power brake unit.
- Remove the vacuum hose.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Measure the distance from the center of the upper surface of the pedal pad to the floor covering and verify that it is as specified.
