  1. A1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE AUDIO UNIT Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Audio Unit C290b. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the audio unit C290b-1, circuit 29-MD15 (OG/BK), harness side and ground; and between the audio unit C290b-2, circuit 75-MD15 (YE/GN), harness side and ground. Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A2. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. REPEAT the data link diagnostic test.
  2. A2 CHECK THE GROUND TO THE AUDIO UNIT Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between the audio unit C290b-13, circuit 31 -MD15 (BK/GN), harness side and ground.   1. B1 CHECK OPERATION OF THE AUDIO UNIT Key in ON position. Turn on the audio unit. Is the audio unit display illuminated? Yes : GO to B2. No : For navigation audio unit GO to B4 , all others GO to B5.

Do all the controls and features operate correctly? Yes : The system is OK. No : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT»(ref-207564-S25479398902005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE POWER WINDOWS Verify that all the power windows and the roof opening panel operate correctly; refer to the owner literature.   5. B5 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE AUDIO UNIT Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Audio Unit C290b (DM1 00i) (CDX6). Disconnect: Audio Unit C2253a (navigation audio unit). Key in ON position. Measure the resistance between the audio unit (navigation audio unit) C2253a-13, circuit 31-MD15B (BK/GN), harness side and ground; and between the audio unit C2253a-24, circuit 31-MD15A (BK/GN), harness side and ground. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to B7. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK CIRCUIT 50-MD15 (GY/OG) FOR SHORT TO POWER WITH IGNITION IN ACC POSITION Key in ACCESSORY position. Measure the voltage between audio unit (CDX6) (DM1 00i) C290b-15, or navigation audio unit C2253a-15, circuit 50-MD15 (GY/OG), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT»(ref-207564-S25479398902005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation.

Scheme 25: PINPOINT TEST C: POOR RECEPTION
  1. C1 CHECK THE AUDIO UNIT SIGNAL RECEPTION Check the audio unit signal reception with both the engine running and with the engine off. Is the audio unit signal reception noisy only with the engine running? Yes : GO to C2. No : GO to C8 .
  2. C2 CHECK SUPPRESSION EQUIPMENT Check all required suppression equipment, radio frequency interference suppression bond, and the hood bonding strap for security, cleanliness, and metal-to-metal contact. Are the contacts clean, secure, and in metal-to-metal contact? Yes : GO to C3. No : INSTALL new radio frequency interference suppression bonds or related equipment. CLEAN or SECURE the connections as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. C3 CHECK THE CAPACITOR MOUNTING AND CONNECTING CIRCUITS NOTE: The capacitor mounting points are used to complete the electrical circuit and must be mounted securely to clean surfaces. Check the mounting and connecting circuits of the radio ignition interference capacitor(s) for security, cleanliness, and metal-to-metal contact. Refer to «ANTENNA»(ref-207564-S34594615802005113000000) . Are the contacts clean, secure, and in metal-to-metal contact? Yes : GO to C4. No : CLEAN or SECURE the connections as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. C4 CHECK THE RADIO IGNITION INTERFERENCE CAPACITOR(S) AND THE GENERATOR Check the operation of the radio ignition interference capacitor(s) by installing known good component(s). Check the generator by disconnecting the wiring harness from the voltage regulator. Key in START position. Check the operation of the audio unit. Is the noise eliminated? Yes : REPAIR or INSTALL new components as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to C5.
  5. C5 CHECK THE IGNITION CIRCUITS Key in OFF position. Check the ignition circuits for correct routing, grounding, and security of connections. Are the circuits OK? Yes : GO to C6. No : REPAIR the circuit as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. C6 CHECK THE IGNITION SYSTEM Test the ignition system; refer to «INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.0L (4V) - LS»(ref-207555) (3.0L 4V) or «INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.9L - LS»(ref-207556) (3.9L). Is the ignition system OK? Yes : GO to C7. No : REPAIR the ignition system. REFER to «INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.0L (4V) - LS»(ref-207555) (3.0L 4V) or «INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.9L - LS»(ref-207556) (3.9L). TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. C7 SUBSTITUTE THE AUDIO UNIT Key in OFF position. Substitute a known good audio unit. Key in START position. Check the operation of the audio unit. Is the noise eliminated? Yes : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT»(ref-207564-S25479398902005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REINSTALL the original audio unit. USE a jumper cable to ground various parts of the vehicle to the frame (for example: engine, fenders, quarter panels, stone deflectors, air cleaner, body sheet metal). When the noise is eliminated, PROVIDE a permanent ground where necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. C8 CHECK THE ANTENNA FOR DAMAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Antenna Lead Terminal. Measure the resistance between the antenna cable lead terminal and the end of the antenna grid wire. Is the resistance less than 8 ohms? Yes : GO to C9. No : REPAIR the antenna. REFER to «ANTENNA»(ref-207564-S34594615802005113000000) .
  9. C9 CHECK VOLTAGE TO ANTENNA ISOLATOR MODULE Disconnect: Antenna Isolator Module C4194. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the antenna isolator module C4194, circuit 29S-MD7 (OG/BU), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to C10. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. C10 SUBSTITUTE ANTENNA ISOLATOR MODULE Key in OFF position. Substitute a known good antenna isolator module. Key in START position. Check the operation of the audio unit. Is the noise eliminated? Yes : INSTALL a new antenna isolator module. REFER to «ANTENNA»(ref-207564-S34594615802005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to C11.
  11. C11 SUBSTITUTE ANTENNA EXTENSION CABLE(S) Key in OFF position. Substitute a known good antenna cable(s) between the antenna isolator module and the audio unit. Key in START position. Check the operation of the audio unit. Is the noise eliminated? Yes : INSTALL a new antenna cable. REFER to «ANTENNA»(ref-207564-S34594615802005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REINSTALL the original antenna cable. REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT»(ref-207564-S25479398902005113000000) . Key in ON position. Turn on the audio unit. Measure the voltage between pin 1 and pin 2 of the speaker with poor quality/distorted sound or no sound. Is there a fluctuating AC voltage? Yes : INSTALL a new speaker. REFER to «DOOR SPEAKER»(ref-207564-S14384138282005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to D3.
  3. D3 CHECK THE CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE SPEAKER(S) AND THE AUDIO UNIT FOR OPENS AND SHORTS TO GROUND Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Audio Unit C290b. Disconnect: Inoperative Audio Speaker(s). Measure the voltage between the center imaging amplifier C225-13, circuit 7-MD12 (YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to D6. No : GO to D10 .
  6. D6 CHECK CIRCUIT 29-MD12 (OG/YE) FOR VOLTAGE Measure the voltage between the center imaging amplifier C225-16, circuit 29-MD12 (OG/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to D7. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. D7 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT 31-MD12 (BK/YE) FOR OPEN Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between the center imaging amplifier C225-15, circuit 31-MD12 (BK/YE), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to D8. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. D8 CHECK FOR AN AUDIO SIGNAL OUTPUT TO THE AMPLIFIER Measure the voltage between the center imaging amplifier C225-1, circuit 1-MD12 (WH), harness side and the center imaging amplifier C225-2, circuit 2-MD12 (GY), harness side. Is there a fluctuating AC voltage? Yes : INSTALL a new center imaging amplifier. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT AMPLIFIER - CENTER IMAGING»(ref-207564-S38557927042005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to D9.

Measure the resistance between the center imaging amplifier C225-13, circuit 7-MD12 (YE), harness side and the audio unit C290a-8, circuit 7-MD12 (YE), harness side; and between the center imaging amplifier C225-13, circuit 7-MD12 (YE), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the center imaging amplifier and the audio unit and greater than 10,000 ohms between the center imaging amplifier and ground? Yes : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT»(ref-207564-S25479398902005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  11. D11 CHECK FOR AN AUDIO SIGNAL OUTPUT TO THE INOPERATIVE CENTER IMAGING SPEAKER Disconnect: Inoperative Center Imaging Speaker. Key in ON position. For the LH center imaging speaker, measure the voltage between the center imaging speaker C230-1, circuit 8-MD30 (WH/BU), harness side and C230-2, circuit 10-MD30 (GY/VT), harness side. For the RH center imaging speaker, measure the voltage between the center imaging speaker C231-1, circuit 8-MD31 (WH/GN), harness side and C231 -2, circuit 10-MD31 (GY/OG), harness side. Is there a fluctuating AC voltage? Yes : INSTALL a new center imaging speaker. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT AMPLIFIER - CENTER IMAGING»(ref-207564-S38557927042005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No GO to D12.

F6 CHECK CIRCUIT 2-MD19 (GY/RD) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-8, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side and the audio unit C290a-2, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side; and between the subwoofer amplifier C466-8, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side and ground. I4 CHECK THE ENABLE CIRCUIT TO THE SUBWOOFER AMPLIFIER For CDX6, Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side and the audio unit C290a-4, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side: and between the subwoofer amplifier C466-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side and ground. For navigation audio unit, measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-1, circuit 7-MD27 (YE/RD), harness side and the audio unit C2253d-9, circuit 10-MD27 (GY/WH), harness side: and between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD) harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and the audio unit, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and ground? Yes : GO to I5. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. I5 CHECK VOLTAGE ON ENABLE CIRCUIT WITH IGNITION ON Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to «AUDIO UNIT»(ref-207564-S25479398902005113000000) . TEST the system for normal operation.

  1. Bring the vehicle up to room temperature of at least 16°C (60°F) or above.
  2. Clean the entire grid line repair area with a non-alcohol based window cleaner and 0000 steel wool.
  3. Mark the location of the grid break on the exterior of the rear window glass.
  4. Using cellulose tape, mask the area directly above and below the grid break. The break area should be at the center of the mask.
  5. Apply the repair coating to the grid break area in several smooth, continuous strokes. Apply three applications of the grid repair compound.
  6. After five minutes, or after the repair area has dried completely, remove the mask.
  7. Remove any excess repair compound above or below the grid line with a razor blade.
  8. After optimum hardness is achieved, clean the repaired area with a non-alcohol based window cleaner.

Antenna

Note. The antenna is a conductive trace integral to the rear window glass and can be repaired, but not installed separately. For removal and installation of the back glass, refer to EXTERIOR TRIM . For repair procedures, refer to ANTENNA GRID WIRE REPAIR .

Note. Antenna cable is not serviceable, it comes with the interior harness.
