INSPECTION & VERIFICATION

  1. Verify customer's original problem by operating system in question. Inspect vehicle for any obvious electrical component wiring or connector damage. Inspect connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check related fuses for system in question.
  2. Inspect 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) pins for damage. (Scheme 1) The DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to the right of steering column. If pins are okay, go to next step. If pins are damaged, repair as necessary and proceed to next step.
  3. If problem is still present after performing inspection, connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to DLC. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu. If NGS tester does not communicate with vehicle, ensure program card is properly installed. Check NGS tester cable connections and ensure ignition is on. If NGS tester still does not communicate with vehicle, go to TEST P: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION under TESTING. If NGS tester communicates with vehicle, perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST.

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), if not already connected. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu.
  2. Turn ignition on. Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on the BUS (circuits No. 914 and 915) for the module communications network and the ISO 9141 communication link (circuit No. 70). This is the Light Blue/White wire that is between terminal No. 7 on DLC and the air bag diagnostic monitor.
  3. If NGS tester displays CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED and CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED, module communications network is okay. If NGS tester displays CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, ISO 9141 communication link is operating properly. Return to article that directed you here and continue diagnosis.
  4. If NGS tester does not display CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED, CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED and CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, perform the following as applicable. If no response from NGS tester, go to TEST P: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION under TESTING. If NGS tester displays CKT 70, CKT 914 and/or CKT 915 = SOME ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table to continue diagnosis. If NGS tester displays CKT 70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST F: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - ISO 9141 LINK under TESTING. If NGS tester displays CKT 914 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST N: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - BUS LINK under TESTING. If NGS tester displays CKT 915 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST N: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - BUS LINK under TESTING. If module in question is NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table to continue diagnosis. If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table to continue diagnosis. If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table to continue diagnosis.

TESTING

Note. Always check module power and ground circuits prior to replacing a control module. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS, GROUND DISTRIBUTION or POWER DISTRIBUTION section of the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section.

TEST A: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS module connector, located in left front corner of engine compartment. Disconnect NGS tester. Inspect ABS connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect ABS module connector and NGS tester. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates ABS: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate ABS: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 5).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS module connector. Disconnect NGS tester. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 20 at ABS module connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ABS module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect Gray 40-pin connector C139 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 20 at ABS connector and terminal No. 19 at connector C139. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 6). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and female half of connector C139. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between male half of connector C139 and ABS connector. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS module connector. Disconnect NGS tester. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 19 at ABS module connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ABS module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 79 at connector C217 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  7. Disconnect Gray 40-pin connector C139 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 19 at ABS connector and terminal No. 23 at connector C139. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 6). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and female half of connector C139. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between male half of connector C139 and ABS connector. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST B: FRONT CONTROL UNIT (FCU) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect FCU 16-pin connector C231 located behind center of instrument panel, on radio. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester does not indicate FCU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 3). If NGS tester indicates FCU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 3 at FCU connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FCU and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between FCU connector and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 4 at FCU connector C231 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FCU and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between FCU connector and DLC.

TEST C: DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE (DDM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect DDM 14-pin connector C524 located inside driver's door. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect DDM connector C524. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 12 at DDM connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 7). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace DDM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect NGS tester. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure, to check Driver's Seat Module (DSM) operating state. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), repair open in Tan/Orange wire between female half of bulkhead connector C217 and DDM connector C524. Connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Retest system for normal operation. If NGS tester does not indicate DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), repair open in Tan/Orange wire between male half of bulkhead connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 13 at DDM connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 7). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace DDM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect NGS tester. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure, to check Driver's Seat Module (DSM) operating state. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between female half of bulkhead connector C217 and DDM connector C524. Retest system for normal operation. If NGS tester does not indicate DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between male half of bulkhead connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST D: DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE (DSM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect DSM 26-pin connector C342 located under driver's front seat. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate DSM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect DSM connector C342. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 25 at DSM connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 8). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace DSM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect NGS tester. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure, to check Driver's Door Module (DDM) operating state. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), repair open in Tan/Orange wire between female half of bulkhead connector C217 and DSM connector C342. Connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Retest system for normal operation. If NGS tester does not indicate DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), repair open in Tan/Orange wire between male half of bulkhead connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 26 at DDM connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 8). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace DSM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect NGS tester. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure, to check Driver's Door Module (DDM) operating state. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between female half of bulkhead connector C217 and DSM connector C342. Retest system for normal operation. If NGS tester does not indicate DDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between male half of bulkhead connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST E: AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL (EATC) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EATC module White connector C274 located in behind center of instrument panel. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester does not indicate EATC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 3). If NGS tester indicates EATC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect EATC module connector C274. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 15 at EATC module connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 9). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EATC module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between EATC module connector C274 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect EATC module connector C274. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 1 at EATC module connector and terminal No. 10 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 9). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EATC module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between EATC module connector C274 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST F: AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Inspect NGS tester connector and Data Link Connector (DLC) for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector(s) as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connectors are okay, deactivate air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor connector located between front seats, below center console. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Ensure ignition is off. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Light Blue/White wire between terminal No. 19 at air bag diagnostic monitor connector and terminal No. 7 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 10). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 4). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Light Blue/White wire between terminal No. 59 at connector C217 and terminal No. 7 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between female half of connector C217 and air bag diagnostic monitor connector. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Light Blue/White) at DLC. Also, measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and No. 16 (Light Green/Red wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) If voltage is indicated at any terminals, go to next step. If voltage is not indicated at any terminals, replace air bag diagnostic monitor and retest system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 7 (Light Blue/White) at DLC. Also, measure voltage between terminals No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and No. 16 (Light Green/Red wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) If voltage is indicated at any terminals, repair Light Blue/White wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation. If voltage is not indicated at any terminals, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between female half of connector C217 and air bag diagnostic monitor. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST G: LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect LCM 22-pin connector C206 located behind left side of instrument panel, behind headlight switch. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates LCM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate LCM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 5).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect LCM connector C206. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 2 at LCM connector C206 and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace LCM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect 84-pin connector C212 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 28 at connector C212 and terminal No. 2 at LCM connector C206. (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between female half of connector C217 and connector C212. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between male half of connector C212 and LCM connector C206. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 1 at LCM connector C206 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace LCM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 79 at connector C217 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  7. Disconnect 84-pin connector C212 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 29 at connector C212 and terminal No. 1 at LCM connector C206. (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 11). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between female half of connector C217 and connector C212. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between male half of connector C212 and LCM connector C206. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST H: SPEED CONTROL SERVO/AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates NGSC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate NGSC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 5).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 1 at speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace speed control servo/amplifier assembly and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect Black 40-pin connector C100 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 1 at speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector and terminal No. 18 at connector C100. (Scheme 6)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and female half of connector C100. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between male half of connector C100 and speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 2 speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace speed control servo/amplifier assembly and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 79 at connector C217 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  7. Disconnect 40-pin connector C100 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 26 at connector C100 and terminal No. 2 at speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector. (Scheme 6)and (Scheme 12). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and connector C100. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C100 and speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST J: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

Note. If test results indicate PCM is faulty, always check for any engine performance related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) prior to replacing PCM. If any DTCs are present, service DTCs as necessary and retest. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.

See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester does not indicate PCM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 6). If NGS tester indicates PCM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect PCM connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 16 at PCM connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect Black 40-pin connector C139 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 19 at connector C139. (Scheme 6)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and connector C139. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Disconnect 16-pin connector C127 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 16 at PCM connector and terminal No. 2 at connector C127. (Scheme 13)and (Scheme 14). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C127 and connector C139. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between PCM and connector C127. Retest system for normal operation.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 15 at PCM connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 13). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 79 at connector C217 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  8. Disconnect 40-pin connector C139 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 23 at connector C139 and terminal No. 79 at female half of connector C217. (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 6). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C139 and connector C217. Retest system for normal operation.
  9. Disconnect 16-pin connector C127 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 15 at PCM connector and terminal No. 3 at connector C127. (Scheme 13)and (Scheme 14). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C127 and connector C139. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between PCM and connector C127. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST K: EMERGENCY SATELLITE CELLULAR UNIT (RESCU) MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RESCU module 12-pin connector C448 located in right rear of trunk, behind trim panel. (Scheme 15) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Re pair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates RESCU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate RESCU: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 5).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect RESCU module connector C448. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 11 at RESCU module connector C448 and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 16). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RESCU module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect 16-pin connector C409 located in center front of trunk. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 11 at RESCU module connector C448 and terminal No. 8 at connector C409. (Scheme 16)and (Scheme 17). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and connector C409. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C409 and RESCU module. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 5 at RESCU module connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 16). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RESCU and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 79 at connector C217 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  7. Disconnect 16-pin connector C409 located in center front of trunk. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 5 at RESCU module connector C448 and terminal No. 16 at female half of connector C409. (Scheme 16)and (Scheme 17). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and connector C409. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C409 and RESCU module connector C448. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST L: VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE (VDM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect VDM 60-pin connector located in trunk. (Scheme 15) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates VDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate VDM: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 5).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect VDM connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 19 at VDM connector and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace VDM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 55 at connector C217 and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect 16-pin connector C409 located in center front of trunk. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 19 at VDM connector and terminal No. 8 at connector C409. (Scheme 17)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C217 and connector C409. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between connector C409 and VDM connector. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 18 at VDM connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace VDM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 79 at connector C217 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 4). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  7. Disconnect 16-pin connector C409 located in center front of trunk. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 18 at VDM connector and terminal No. 16 at female half of connector C409. (Scheme 17)and (Scheme 18). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217 and connector C409. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C409 and VDM connector. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST M: VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (VIC) DOES NOT RESPOND TO NGS TESTER

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect VIC Gray 20-pin connector C256 located behind left side of instrument panel. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, reconnect connector. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If NGS tester indicates VIC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to next step. If NGS tester does not indicate VIC: NO RESPONSE ON CKT 914 (BUS +), go to step 3).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect VIC connector C256. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 11 at VIC connector C256 and terminal No. 2 at Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 19). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace VIC and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Orange wire between VIC connector C256 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect NGS tester. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 1 at VIC connector C256 and terminal No. 10 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 19). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace VDM and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire between VIC connector C256 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.

  1. Inspect NGS tester connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Measure resistance of Tan/Orange wire between terminal No. 1 at speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector and terminal No. 2 at DLC. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 12). Also, measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 2 at speed control servo/amplifier assembly connector and terminal No. 10 at DLC. If both resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open Tan/Orange wire between DLC and splice S101 and/or Pink/Light Blue wire between connector DLC and splice S118. Splice S101 and splice S118 are located in wiring harness behind instrument cluster. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect 84-pin connector C217 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If VIC, EATC and FCU modules passed data link diagnostic test, turn ignition off. Reconnect connector C217 and go to step 8). If VIC, EATC or FCU module did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect FCU 16-pin connector C231 located behind center of instrument panel, on radio. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If VIC and EATC modules passed data link diagnostic test, replace FCU and retest system for normal operation. If VIC or EATC module did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EATC module White connector C274 located in behind center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If VIC passed data link diagnostic test, replace EATC module and retest system for normal operation. If VIC did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect VIC Gray 20-pin connector C256 located behind left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between the following DLC terminals: Measure voltage between terminals No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) and No. 4 (Black wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) Measure voltage between terminals No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) and No. 16 (Light Green/Red wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and No. 4 (Black wire) at DLC. Measure voltage between terminals No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and No. 16 (Light Green/Red wire) at DLC. If voltage is indicated at any terminals, repair circuit No. 914 (Tan/Orange wire) and/or circuit No. 915 (Pink/Light Blue wire) between connector DLC and VIC, EATC and FCU modules. Retest system for normal operation. If voltage is not indicated at any terminals, replace VIC and retest system for normal operation.
  8. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle passed data link diagnostic test, replace speed control servo/amplifier assembly and retest system for normal operation. If any modules did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Black 40-pin connector C100 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except speed control servo/amplifier assembly passed data link diagnostic test, repair open in Tan/Orange wire and/or Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C100 and speed control servo/amplifier assembly. Retest system for normal operation. If any module, other than speed control servo/amplifier assembly did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 84-pin connector C212 located behind left side of instrument panel. (Scheme 3) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except LCM passed data link diagnostic test, turn ignition off. Reconnect connector C212 and go to next step. If any module, other than LCM did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to step 12).
  11. Disconnect LCM 22-pin connector C206 located behind left side of instrument panel, behind headlight switch. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except LCM passed data link diagnostic test, replace LCM and retest system for normal operation. If any module, other than LCM did not pass data link diagnostic test, repair open in Tan/Orange wire and/or Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C212 and LCM connector C206.
  12. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 16-pin connector C409 located in center front of trunk. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except VDM and RESCU module (if equipped) passed data link diagnostic test, turn ignition off. Reconnect connector C409 and go to next step (models with RESCU module) or go to step 13) (models without RESCU module). If any module, other than VDM and RESCU module (if equipped) did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to step 15).
  13. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RESCU module 12-pin connector C448 located in right rear of trunk, behind trim panel. (Scheme 15) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except RESCU module passed data link diagnostic test, replace RESCU module and retest system for normal operation. If any module, other than RESCU module did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  14. Turn ignition off. Disconnect VDM 60-pin connector located in trunk. (Scheme 15) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except VDM and RESCU module (if equipped) passed data link diagnostic test, replace VDM and retest system for normal operation. If any module, other than VDM and RESCU module (if equipped) did not pass data link diagnostic test, repair open in Tan/Orange wire and/or Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C409, VDM connector and RESCU module connector C448 (if equipped). Retest system for normal operation.
  15. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Gray 40-pin connector C139 located in left rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except PCM and ABS passed data link diagnostic test, turn ignition off. Reconnect C139 and go to next step. If any other module, other than PCM and ABS modules did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to step 18).
  16. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS module connector, located in left front corner of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except ABS module passed data link diagnostic test, replace ABS module and retest system for normal operation. If any other module, other than ABS module did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  17. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector located in right rear of engine compartment. (Scheme 5) Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except PCM and ABS module passed data link diagnostic test, replace PCM and retest system for normal operation. If any other module, other than PCM and ABS module did not pass data link diagnostic test, repair open in Tan/Orange wire and/or Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C139, PCM connector ABS module and evac and fill connector C146 (Tan/Orange wire only). Retest system for normal operation.
  18. Turn ignition off. Disconnect DDM 14-pin connector C524 located inside driver's door. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except DDM passed data link diagnostic test, replace DDM and retest system for normal operation. If any other module, other than DDM did not pass data link diagnostic test, go to next step.
  19. Turn ignition off. Disconnect DSM 26-pin connector C342 located under driver's front seat. Turn ignition on. Perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If all modules equipped on vehicle, except DSM and DDM passed data link diagnostic test, replace DSM and retest system for normal operation. If any other module, other than DSM and DDM did not pass data link diagnostic test, repair open in Tan/Orange wire and/or Pink/Light Blue wire between connector C217, connector C100, connector C409, DSM connector C342 and DDM connector C524. Retest system for normal operation.

TEST P: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION

  1. Inspect NGS tester connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 2 (10-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system for normal operation. Recheck fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in circuit No. 1047 (Light Green/Red wire) between instrument panel fuse block and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 16 (Light Green/Red wire) at DLC. (Scheme 1) If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair circuit No. 1047 (Light Green/Red wire) between instrument panel fuse block and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Black/Light Blue wire) at DLC. If both resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, repair or replace NGS tester. Retest system for normal operation. If any resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire or Black/Light Blue wire between ground and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
