REMOVAL

  1. PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System for HDD) NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. PRECAUTION (w/ Air Suspension) NOTE: Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Refer to «PRECAUTION»(ref-400808-S18187891512011051800000) .

  4. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  5. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Disable the auto tilt away function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-400871-S22265341422011051800000) . NOTE: Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto tilt away function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation. HINT: Performing the above operation disables the auto tilt away function when the engine switch is turned off. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system. NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-400649-S12881576452011051800000) .

  9. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the brake pedal. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-400778-S10841384272011051800000) .
  10. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: Removing the lower steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break. Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides to separate the instrument panel cluster finish panel from the upper steering column cover. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Instrument Panel Cluster Finish Panel Remove the 3 screws. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.
  11. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Disengage the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.
  12. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly. Using pliers, expand the clamp. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Clamp *2 Claw While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  13. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Loosen the bolt. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and power steering link assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark NOTE: Do not separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly. Remove the bolt. Separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
  14. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. HINT: As shown in the illustration, turn the lock lever to disconnect the connector. Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly. Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and steering post assembly.
  15. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly. Remove the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

  4. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  10. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: Removing the lower steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break.   11. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Disengage the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.
  12. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly. Using pliers, expand the clamp. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Clamp *2 Claw While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  13. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Loosen the bolt. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and power steering link assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark NOTE: Do not separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly. Remove the bolt. Separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
  14. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. HINT: As shown in the illustration, turn the lock lever to disconnect the connector. Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly. Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and steering post assembly.
  15. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly. Remove the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
  2. INSTALL STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Bushing HINT: If the bushings are missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one. Install the steering post assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts. Bolt Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) Nut Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) Engage the 2 wire harness clamps. Connect the connectors and engage the wire harness clamps to the steering post assembly. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly. HINT: As shown in the illustration, securely return the lock lever to its original position to connect the connector. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly.
  3. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and power steering link assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) Install the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly to the steering column hole shield. Tighten the bolt.
  4. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  5. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Using pliers, expand the clamp. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Clamp *2 Claw While holding the clamp expanded, install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly and engage the claw. Return the clamp to its original position. Connect the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  6. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Engage the claw to install the upper steering column cover.
  7. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover to the upper steering column cover. NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch. Install the 3 screws. Torque: 2.0 N*m (20 kgf*cm, 18 in.*lbf) Engage the 4 clips and 2 guides to install the instrument panel cluster finish panel to the upper steering column cover.   8. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY HINT: Refer to the instructions for Installation of the brake pedal. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-400778-S35073280532011051800000) .

  13. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
  14. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  15. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead. Reset the auto tilt away function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-400871-S22265341422011051800000) . When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-400649-S34584305262011051800000) .

Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Turn *2 Hold SST: 09950-50013 09951-05010 09952-05010 09953-05020 09954-05070 NOTE: Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.
  6. REMOVE STEERING SHAKE DAMPER Remove the 2 screws. Remove the steering shake damper from the steering wheel assembly.
  7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 claws and pin to remove the steering pad switch assembly (RH side) from the steering wheel sub-assembly. Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 claws and pin to remove the steering pad switch assembly (LH side) from the steering wheel sub-assembly.
  8. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 6»(ref-400829-S20458485232011051800000)
  9. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE
  10. REMOVE LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Remove the 2 pins. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering wheel boss cover from the steering wheel sub-assembly.
  11. REMOVE STEERING PAD ATTACHING SCREW Remove the 2 steering pad attaching screws from the lower steering wheel boss cover.

  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Turn *2 Hold SST: 09950-50013 09951-05010 09952-05010 09953-05020 09954-05070 NOTE: Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.
  6. REMOVE STEERING SHAKE DAMPER Remove the 2 screws. Remove the steering shake damper from the steering wheel assembly.
  7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 claws and pin to remove the steering pad switch assembly (RH side) from the steering wheel sub-assembly. Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 claws and pin to remove the steering pad switch assembly (LH side) from the steering wheel sub-assembly.
  8. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 6»(ref-400829-S40971022762011051800000)
  9. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE
  10. REMOVE LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Remove the 2 pins. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering wheel boss cover from the steering wheel sub-assembly.
  11. REMOVE STEERING PAD ATTACHING SCREW Remove the 2 steering pad attaching screws from the lower steering wheel boss cover.

  1. INSTALL STEERING PAD ATTACHING SCREW Install the 2 steering wheel pad attaching screws to the lower steering wheel boss cover.
  2. INSTALL LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering wheel boss cover to the steering wheel sub-assembly. Engage the 2 pins.
  3. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE
  4. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-400829-S18302336182011051800000)
  5. INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 claws and pin to install the steering pad switch assembly (RH side) to the steering wheel sub-assembly. Install the screw. Torque: 2.4 N*m (25 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf) Engage the 2 claws and pin to install the steering pad switch assembly (LH side) to the steering wheel sub-assembly. Install the screw. Torque: 2.4 N*m (25 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf)
  6. INSTALL STEERING SHAKE DAMPER Install the steering shake damper to the steering wheel assembly with the 2 screws. Torque: 2.4 N*m (25 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf)
  7. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  8. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 5»(ref-400651-S13980590642011051800000)
  9. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Install the steering wheel assembly set nut. Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) Connect the connectors to the spiral cable sub-assembly.
  10. INSTALL STEERING PAD HINT: Refer to the instructions for Installation of the steering pad. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-400651-S20532233812011051800000) .
  11. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-400649-S12881576452011051800000) .
  13. INSPECT STEERING PAD . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 5»(ref-400651-S34473806972011051800000)
  14. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT Inspect the SRS warning light. Refer to «DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM»(ref-400811-S16959918682011051800000) .

  2. INSTALL LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering wheel boss cover to the steering wheel sub-assembly. Engage the 2 pins.
  3. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE
  4. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-400829-S06493017132011051800000)
  5. INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 claws and pin to install the steering pad switch assembly (RH side) to the steering wheel sub-assembly. Install the screw. Torque: 2.4 N*m (25 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf) Engage the 2 claws and pin to install the steering pad switch assembly (LH side) to the steering wheel sub-assembly. Install the screw. Torque: 2.4 N*m (25 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf)
  6. INSTALL STEERING SHAKE DAMPER Install the steering shake damper to the steering wheel assembly with the 2 screws. Torque: 2.4 N*m (25 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf)
  7. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  8. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 5»(ref-400651-S42213611592011051800000)
  9. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Install the steering wheel assembly set nut. Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) Connect the connectors to the spiral cable sub-assembly.
  10. INSTALL STEERING PAD HINT: Refer to the instructions for Installation of the steering pad. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-400651-S27697599332011051800000) .
  11. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
