PRECAUTION

Note. When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.   1. PRECAUTION FOR HID HEADLIGHT SYSTEM When any defects such as deformation, cracks, dents, chipping, etc. are identified on the High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlight (especially, on the light control ECU), replace it with a new one. Even if the operation of the lights seems to be normal, the fail-safe function may be defective. Since an HID headlight bulb has pressurized gas inside and can easily be broken if scratched or dropped, special care should be taken. When handling the bulb, hold the plastic or metal part and do not touch the glass part with bare hands. When the HID headlights illuminate, a high voltage (approximately 20000 V) is applied momentarily to the bulb sockets. Never connect a tester to the high voltage socket of an HID headlight for measurement, as this may result in a serious accident because of high voltage. When servicing an HID headlight, do not allow the HID headlight to come into contact with water. Turn off the light control switch and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and the connector of the light control ECU in advance to avoid electric shocks. When performing an operation related to an HID headlight, only operate it after assembly is complete. Never turn on the HID headlights without a bulb installed. Do not turn on the HID headlights using a power source other than the vehicle battery. The light color emitted by the HID headlight bulb varies across the ages.
  2. PRECAUTION FOR HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT If even a thin film of oil is left on the surface of an HID headlight bulb or a halogen bulb, its service life will be shortened because the light will burn at a higher temperature. When replacing a bulb, be sure to hold the flanged part of the light so that your hand does not contact the glass part of the bulb. Due to the high internal pressure of HID headlight bulbs, they may explode and shatter if dropped, hit or damaged. Always prepare a new bulb for immediate replacement. While replacing the bulb, the lens may attract dust and moisture if removed from the vehicle for a long time. Always replace a bulb with another bulb of the same wattage. If only replacing the bulb on one side, differences in brightness and lighting color between the right and left sides may occur. Securely install the socket after bulb replacement. The lens may become cloudy or the light cavity may be filled with water through gaps around the socket if it is not installed securely. Do not break the HID headlight bulb when disposing of it as shards of glass may fly off and cause injuries. It is not possible to determine if an HID headlight bulb is defective by checking it visually. Check the bulb by replacing it with a known good one.
  3. PRECAUTION FOR AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SYSTEM General Description The automatic high beam system is a system that helps ensure visibility by automatically changing between the high beams and low beams. In addition, due to control limitations of the automatic high beam system, it may be necessary to manually change between high beams and low beams. For safety reasons, make sure to switch the high beams and low beams manually according to the driving conditions. Conditions Unsuitable for Using Automatic High Beam System Under the following conditions, the automatic high beam system might not detect other vehicles or lights correctly, or the high beams might cause glare or flash pedestrians or the occupants of other vehicles. Manual operation should be considered. Factor Condition Weather/Climate When driving in bad weather (rain, snow, fog, sandstorms, etc.). Front windshield When the front windshield is not clear (ice, snow or frost on the glass). When the front windshield is dirty (sand, mud, water stain or bugs on the glass). When the front windshield is cracked. When the front windshield is fogged-up. When the front windshield has a film attached. When an object on the instrument panel reflects off of the front glass. When any other abnormal conditions exist with the front glass. Inner rear view mirror assembly When a parking tag, magnifying lens or other accessory is mounted on the inner rear view mirror assembly. When the inner rear view mirror assembly or its built-in camera is deformed. When the camera sensor in the inner rear view mirror assembly is dirty. When any other abnormal conditions exist with the inner rear view mirror assembly or its built-in camera sensor. Nearby vehicles or lights When lights similar to headlights or taillights are in the vicinity of the vehicle. When a nearby vehicle has no lights or its lights are off. When a vehicle in front has misaligned lights, or its lights are changing color. When a vehicle in front has extremely dirty headlights or taillights. Road conditions When driving in areas where the conditions often change between bright and dark. When driving on hilly roads. When driving on winding roads or around sharp curves. When driving on bumpy roads (cobblestone paving, gravel road, rough unpaved road, etc.). When highly reflective objects are in front of the vehicle (mirrors, road signs, etc.). Own vehicle When the headlights are damaged, deformed or dirty. When the vehicle posture is abnormal (posture has changed due to the vehicle being fully loaded, a trailer being towed, road conditions etc.). When the vehicle has other malfunctions or it has been modified. Automatic high beam system Malfunction When the indicator on the combination meter assembly is off or is blinking. Others When the automatic high beam system does not seem to be changing between the high beams and low beams properly. When the automatic high beam system is frequently changing between the high beams and low beams. When the glare from the high beams would disturb pedestrians or the drivers of other vehicles. Windshield Replacement Precautions The timing of the change between high beams and low beams differs depending on the light transmission rate of the glass. For this reason, when replacing the windshield, replace it with an original equipment part. Inner Rear View Mirror Assembly Handling Precautions Failure to observe the following precautions may result in a malfunction: Do not touch the lens of the camera (built into the inner rear view mirror assembly) with bare hands. Do not allow anything to adhere to the camera lens (built into the inner rear view mirror assembly). Do not apply strong impacts to the inner rear view mirror assembly. Do not allow any liquids to contact the inner rear view mirror assembly.

CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS

  1. CUSTOMIZING FUNCTION WITH TECHSTREAM HINT: The following items can be customized. NOTE: When the customer requests a change in a function, first make sure that the function can be customized. Be sure to make a note of the current settings before customizing. When troubleshooting a function, first make sure that the function is set to the default setting. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Customize Setting / Light Control or Illuminated Entry. Select the setting by referring to the table below. LIGHT CONTROL Display Default Content Setting Disp Ex ON Sen Normal Changes the ambient brightness level required to dim the lights such as the indicator lights of the combination meter, A/C indicator light and clock. Light2, Light1, Normal, Dark1 or Dark2 Disp Ex OFF Sen Normal Changes the ambient brightness level required to cancel the dimming of the lights such as the indicator lights of the combination meter, A/C indicator light and clock. Light2, Light1, Normal, Dark1 or Dark2 Light Auto OFF Delay 30 s Keeps the headlights on for a certain period of time after turning the engine switch off and closing all the doors with the low beam headlights on. Off, 30 s, 60 s or 90 s Sensitivity Normal Adjusts the sensitivity of the automatic light control system. Light2, Light1, Normal, Dark1 or Dark2 DRL Function On ON/OFF of the DRL function On or Off Automatic High Beam On ON/OFF of the automatic high beam function. INITIALIZATION

Note. Initialize the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) when the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) is replaced. If the vehicle is not equipped with air suspension system, initialize the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) (set the zero point of the height control sensor in the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly)) after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of suspension components or after performing such operations as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH. If the vehicle is not equipped with air suspension system, adjust the headlight aim after initializing the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly). Refer to ADJUSTMENT . When a malfunction is detected in the automatic headlight beam level control system or AFS, height control sensor signal initialization is impossible. Perform troubleshooting before initialization.

  2. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION Check the vehicle condition. Result Result Proceed to The AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) has been replaced with a new one. A Removal and reinstallation of the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly), replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH, replacement of the suspension, etc. have been performed. B B --> Go to step 4 . A: Go to next step
  3. SYNCHRONIZE VEHICLE INFORMATION When using the Techstream: Turn the engine switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks at 0.5 Hz. Enter the following menus: Main Body / AFS / Utility / ECU Information Sync / Next. Check what is displayed on the screen of the Techstream and press "Next". Check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks 6 times at 2 Hz. Press "Exit" and turn the engine switch off. When not using the Techstream: Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks at 0.5 Hz. Turn the low beam headlights on and off 8 times using the light control switch within 20 seconds after turning the engine switch on (IG). HINT: If the light control switch operation cannot be finished within 20 seconds, turn the engine switch off. Then, turn the engine switch on (IG) and restart again. NOTE: Turn the low beam headlights on and off at less than 2-second intervals. Check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks 6 times at 2 Hz. Turn the engine switch off. NEXT: Go to next step
  4. PREPARE VEHICLE FOR INITIALIZATION Unload the trunk and vehicle, ensuring that the spare tire, tools and jack are in their original positions. Check that there are no occupants in the vehicle. Turn off the headlights. Stop the vehicle on a level surface and keep the vehicle height unchanged. NEXT: Go to next step
  5. CHECK AFS OFF INDICATOR LIGHT Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check the indicator light. OK Condition Specified Condition The AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) has been replaced with a new one. Indicator light continuously blinks 6 times at 2 Hz. Removal and reinstallation of the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly), replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH, replacement of the suspension, etc. have been performed. Indicator light comes on for approximately 3 seconds, and then goes off (bulb check function). HINT: If the indicator light does not come on when turning the engine switch on (IG), inspect and repair it according to Problem Symptoms Table. Refer to «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(ref-400862-S31953522912011051800000) . NG --> GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(ref-400862-S31953522912011051800000) . OK: Go to next step
  6. INITIALIZATION Connect terminals 4 (CG) and 8 (LVL) of the DLC3 using SST. SST: 09843-18040 Turn the low beam headlights on and off using the light control switch within 20 seconds after connecting the terminals. HINT: The number of times the low beam headlights need to be turned on and off is determined by the present fuel level as shown below. Fuel Level Number of Times to Turn Low Beam Headlights on and off Fuel level is within A range. 1 Fuel level is within B range. 2 Fuel level is within C range. 3 Fuel level is within D range. 4 Fuel level is within E range. 5 NOTE: Turn the low beam headlights on and off at less than 3-second intervals. Be sure to operate the light control switch from outside the vehicle. Check the indicator light. OK Condition Specified Condition The AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) has been replaced with a new one. Blinks 6 times at 2 Hz --> Continuously blinks N*1 times at 2 Hz. Removal and reinstallation of the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly), replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly RH, replacement of the suspension, etc. have been performed. Off --> Continuously blinks N*1 times at 2 Hz. HINT: *1: The number of times that the indicator blinks is determined by the number of times the low beam headlights are turned on and off. If initialization cannot be finished normally, disconnect SST from the DLC3 and turn the engine switch off. Then, restart from procedure 1. NG --> GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(ref-400862-S31953522912011051800000) . OK --> TURN ENGINE SWITCH OFF (END)
  7. SYNCHRONIZE VEHICLE INFORMATION HINT: If the AFS ECU (headlight swivel ECU assembly) is replaced with a new one, synchronize the vehicle information. When using the Techstream: Turn the engine switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks at 0.5 Hz. Enter the following menus: Main Body / AFS / Utility / ECU Information Sync / Next. Check what is displayed on the screen of the Techstream and press "Next". Press "Exit" and turn the engine switch off. When not using the Techstream: Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks at 0.5 Hz. Turn the low beam headlights on and off 8 times using the light control switch within 20 seconds after turning the engine switch on (IG). Check what is displayed on the screen of the Techstream and press "Next". Check that the AFS OFF indicator light continuously blinks 6 times at 2 Hz. Press "Exit" and turn the engine switch off.   4. PREPARE VEHICLE FOR INITIALIZATION Unload the trunk and vehicle, ensuring that the spare tire, tools and jack are in their original positions. Check that there are no occupants in the vehicle. Indicator light comes on for approximately 3 seconds, and then goes off (bulb check function). HINT: If the indicator light does not come on when turning the engine switch on (IG), inspect and repair it according to Problem Symptoms Table. HINT: The number of times the low beam headlights need to be turned on and off is determined by the present fuel level as shown below. FAIL-SAFE CHART

  1. HID HEADLIGHT SYSTEM The light control ECU sub-assembly operates in fail-safe mode if an abnormal condition such as those listed below has been detected. Item Outline Detection of abnormal input voltage (High input voltage) If voltage that is input to the light control ECU is approximately 20 V or more, the ECU stops illuminating the headlights, and resumes when the voltage drops to 16 V or less. Detection of abnormal input voltage (Low input voltage) If voltage that is input to the light control ECU is 6 V or less, the ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights, and resumes when the voltage becomes 10 V or more. Detection of abnormal output Open in output side circuit Short between output terminals Short between output terminal and body ground If an abnormal condition occurs in the voltage that is output by the light control ECU, the ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from off to head position). Detection of abnormal light voltage (Low light voltage) Approximately 80 seconds after input voltage is supplied, if the light voltage is below approximately 31 V for approximately 0.5 seconds, the light control ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from off to head position). Detection of abnormal light voltage (High light voltage) If the light voltage is above approximately 69 V for approximately 0.5 seconds, the light control ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from off to head position).
  2. AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM If the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) detects a malfunction in the automatic light control sensor, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) performs fail-safe control to prohibit the automatic light control. If the low beam headlights and taillights are on, the lights will remain on until the light control switch is turned off.
  3. AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SYSTEM The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) operates in fail-safe mode if an abnormal condition such as those listed below has been detected.
