- AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM PRECAUTION Before raising the vehicle using a jack or lift, or working under the vehicle, make sure to disable vehicle height control using the height control OFF switch. HINT: When vehicle height control is disabled using the height control OFF switch, "HEIGHT CONTROL OFF" will be shown on the multi-information display in the combination meter. The history that vehicle height control has been disabled using the height control OFF switch will remain even if the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal. Vehicle height control disabled using the height control OFF switch will resume when the vehicle speed reaches 30 km/h. In order to resume vehicle height control disabled using the height control OFF switch, push the height control OFF switch again with the engine running and the engine switch on (IG). Even if the height control OFF switch is operated, vehicle height control cannot be disabled if the vehicle stability control system is malfunctioning. When replacing the suspension control ECU, make sure to install a new one. HINT: If the suspension control ECU from another vehicle is installed, vehicle identification information inconsistencies will occur, possibly disabling the system and adversely affecting other systems. After replacing the suspension control ECU, perform Vehicle Height Offset Calibration and Registration of Vehicle Identification Information. Refer to «CALIBRATION». Refer to «REGISTRATION» ). After removing/installing or replacing the height control sensor, perform Vehicle Height Offset Calibration. Refer to «CALIBRATION». Do not turn the steering wheel while the pneumatic cylinders are discharged. HINT: If torsional torque is applied to the pneumatic cylinders while they are discharged, they may be damaged. If lowering the vehicle using a jack or a lift with the pneumatic cylinders discharged, confirm that all the tubes are firmly connected. HINT: If the vehicle is lowered using a jack or a lift while any tube is disconnected, the pneumatic cylinders may be damaged. To protect the compressor motor, do not operate it continuously for any longer than 60 seconds. HINT: When returning the vehicle to its normal height after the pneumatic cylinders have been discharged due to removal/installation or replacement, the compressor motor will need to operate for at least 60 seconds. In this case, make sure to stop the engine after approximately 60 seconds and then restart it after waiting for approximately 60 seconds in order to return the vehicle to its normal height. In order to protect the height control compressor, the compressor motor will automatically stop after operating continuously for approximately 100 seconds. In this case, leave the vehicle with the engine running for 10 minutes in order to return the vehicle to its normal height.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
- OUTLINE The air suspension system is adopted as optional equipment. This system uses pneumatic cylinders instead of the coil springs that are used in conventional suspension. The suspension control ECU analyzes information based on the input signals from the height control switches, height control sensors, and various ECUs, and operates the height control compressor assembly, and height control solenoid valves to control the vehicle height. Using the 4 height control sensors, the suspension control ECU detects changes in the vehicle height resulting from the number of occupants or the amount of cargo. Then, the suspension control ECU controls the height control valves and the height control compressor assembly in order to automatically adjust the vehicle height to maintain a constant vehicle height. Thus, a high level of ride comfort and handling stability are achieved. While driving, 3 vehicle height mode settings can be selected by operating the height control switch: HI (high), N (normal), and LO (low) mode: The HI (high) mode vehicle height ensures the vehicle's ability to traverse rough roads. The N (normal) mode vehicle height helps realize excellent controllability and ride comfort during normal driving. The LO (low) mode vehicle height improves aerodynamics and reduces roll angle. To enhance convenience when loading and unloading with the vehicle stopped, luggage mode is used to lower the vehicle height 30 mm (1.18 in.) compared to the normal vehicle height. In accordance with the adoption of this mode, an additional height control switch is provided in the luggage compartment to supplement the height control switch located at the driver seat. Providing this height control switch in the luggage compartment allows the user to select luggage mode even while the engine switch is off.
