  3. Replace the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
  2. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-209565) ) HINT: Perform this procedure only when removing the RH side.
  3. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FILLER PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the filler plug and gasket.
  4. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
  5. SEPARATE SPEED SENSOR REAR LH (See «REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION»(ref-164291-S23111814492004072900000) )
  6. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH NUT (See «REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION»(ref-164291-S23111814492004072900000) ) SST 09930-00010
  7. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 1 LH (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )
  8. SEPARATE STRUT ROD ASSY REAR (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )
  9. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 2 LH (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )
  10. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSY LH (See «REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION»(ref-164291-S23111814492004072900000) )
  11. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR SHAFT SEAL OIL Using SST(s), remove the oil seal. SST 09308-00010
  12. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR SHAFT SEAL OIL Using SST(s) and a hammer, install a new oil seal until it is flush with the carrier end surface. Apply MP grease to the oil seal lip. SST 09550-00032, 09950-70010 (09951-07200)

  14. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 2 LH (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )
  15. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN STRUT ROD ASSY REAR (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )
  16. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 1 LH (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )

  22. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 1 LH (See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-165332-S28502079562004082500000) )
  23. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-209565) ) HINT: Perform this procedure only when removing the RH side.
  24. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the drain plug with a new gasket. Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf)
  25. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL Fill the rear differential carrier assy with hypoid gear oil. Oil grade: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 Recommended oil viscosity: Above -18°C (0°F) SAE 90 Below -18°C (0°F) SAE 80W or 80W-90 Capacity: 0.9+/-0.05 liters (0.95+/-0.05 US qts, 0.79+/-0.04 lmp. qts)
  26. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL (See «DIFFERENTIAL OIL (4WD)»(ref-209577-S08837955892005121000000) )
  27. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL FILLER PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the filler plug with a new gasket. Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf)
  28. INSTALL REAR WHEEL Torque: 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf)
  29. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT (See «REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(ref-209576) )
  30. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS HINT: Perform this procedure only when removing the RH side.
  31. ADJUST VEHICLE HEIGHT (W/AIR SUSPENSION) (See «PRE-CHECK»(ref-209542-S14087782262005121000000) )
  32. ADJUST HEADLIGHT AIM ONLY (W/DISCHARGE HEAD Lamp) (See «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-215984-S38112005992006081100000) ) HINT: Perform this procedure only when removing the RH side.
  33. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL (See «PRE-CHECK»(ref-209545-S24601868202005121000000) )

  1. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSY
  2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER NO. 2 (W/ ENGINE UNDER COVER NO. 2)
  3. REMOVE PROPELLER W/CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSY (See «OVERHAUL»(ref-209579-S13129753372005121000000) ) SST 09325-20010
  4. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-209565) )
  5. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FILLER PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the filler plug and gasket.
  6. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the drain plug, and drain the oil.
  7. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION NUT Using a chisel and a hammer, unstake the staked part of the nut. Using SST(s) to hold the flange, remove the nut. SST 09330-00021, 09930-00010
  8. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSY REAR Using SST(s), remove the companion flange. SST 09950-30012 (09951-03010, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020)
  9. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL Using SST(s), remove the oil seal. SST 09308-10010
  10. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER
  11. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING Using SST(s), remove the front bearing. SST 09556-22010
  12. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER
  13. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER Install a new bearing spacer.
  14. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING
  15. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER Install the oil slinger to the drive pinion.
  16. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL Using SST(s) and a hammer, install a new oil seal. SST 09554-22010 Oil seal drive in depth: 2.0+/-0.3 mm (0.079+/- 0.012 in.) Apply MP grease to the oil seal lip.
  17. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSY REAR Using SST(s), install the companion flange to the shaft. Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil LSD. SST 09950-30012 (09951-03010, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020)
  18. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION NUT Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil LSD. Using SST(s) to hold the flange, torque the nut. SST 09330-00021 Torque: 108 N.m (1,100 kgf.cm, 80 ft.lbf)
  19. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION PRELOAD (See «DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSY REAR (4WD)»(ref-209577-S05076704552005121000000) )
  20. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION NUT Using a chisel and hammer, stake the drive pinion nut.
  21. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-209565) )
  22. INSTALL PROPELLER W/CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSY (See «OVERHAUL»(ref-209579-S13129753372005121000000) )
  23. FULLY TIGHTEN PROPELLER W/CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSY (See «OVERHAUL»(ref-209579-S13129753372005121000000) ) SST 09370-50010
  24. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO. 2 (W/ ENGINE UNDER COVER NO. 2)
  25. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSY
  26. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the drain plug and a new gasket. Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf)
  27. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL Fill the rear differential carrier assy with hypoid gear oil. Oil grade: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 Recommended oil viscosity: Above - 18°C (0°F) SAE 90 Below - 18°C (0°F) SAE 80W or 80W - 90 Capacity: 0.9+/-0.05 liters (0.05+/-0.05 US qts, 0.79+/-0.04 lmp. qts
  28. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL (See «DIFFERENTIAL OIL (4WD)»(ref-209577-S08837955892005121000000) )
  29. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL FILLER PLUG Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the filler plug with a new gasket. Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf)
  30. INSPECT CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS

  1. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSY REAR (See «DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSY REAR (4WD)»(ref-209577-S05076704552005121000000) )
  2. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT CUSHION NO. 1 Using SST(s), remove the rear differential mount cushion No. 1. SST 09570-24010, 09316-12010 NOTE: Do not bring SST(s) into contact with the sub-frame. Do not slant the bolts of SST(s). Do not set the SST(s) in wrong direction. Screw the 2 bolts of SST(s) equally into the 2 holes of the rear differential mount. HINT: Perform this operation only when the rear differential mount cushion No. 1 is damaged.
  3. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT CUSHION NO. 2 Using SST(s), remove the rear differential mount cushion No. 2 SST 09570-24010, 09316-12010 NOTE: Do not bring SST(s) into contact with the sub-frame. Do not slant the bolt of SST(s). Do not set the SST(s) in wrong direction. HINT: Perform this operation only when the rear differential mount cushion No. 2 is damaged.
  4. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT CUSHION NO. 1 Using SST(s), install a new rear differential mount cushion No. 1. SST 09570-24010, 09316-12010 NOTE: Do not set the SST(s) in wrong direction. HINT: Perform this operation only when the rear differential mount cushion No. 1 is replaced.
  5. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT CUSHION NO. 2 Using SST(s), install a new rear differential mount cushion No. 2. SST 09570-24010, 09316-12010 NOTE: Do not set the SST(s) in wrong direction. HINT: Perform this operation only when the rear differential mount cushion No. 2 is replaced.
  6. INSTALL DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSY REAR (See «DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSY REAR (4WD)»(ref-209577-S05076704552005121000000) )
