  1. Performing the following maintenance checks on the vehicle is the responsibility of the owner. The owner may perform the maintenance or take the vehicle to a service center. Check the parts of the vehicle described below on a daily basis. In most cases, special tools are not required. It is recommended that the owner perform these checks. The procedures for general maintenance are as follows.
  1. GENERAL NOTES Maintenance requirements vary depending on the country. Check the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual supplement. Following the maintenance schedule is mandatory. Determine the appropriate time to service the vehicle using either distance driven or time (months) elapsed, whichever reaches the specification first. Maintain similar intervals between periodic maintenance, unless otherwise noted. Failing to check each vehicle part could lead to poor engine performance and increased exhaust emissions.
  2. TIRES Check the tire pressure with a gauge. Make adjustments if necessary. Check the surfaces of the tires for cuts, damage or excessive wear.
  3. WHEEL NUTS Check for nuts that are loose or missing. Tighten them if necessary.
  4. TIRE ROTATION Check the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual supplement.
  5. WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES Check the blades for wear or cracks when they are unable to wipe the windshield clean. Replace them if necessary.
  6. FLUID LEAKS Check under the vehicle for leaking fuel, oil, water and other fluids. NOTE: If you smell gasoline fumes or notice any leaks, locate the cause and correct it.
  7. DOORS AND ENGINE HOOD Check that all of the doors operate smoothly, and that all the latches lock securely. When the primary latch is released, check that the engine hood secondary latch prevents the hood from opening.

  2. LIGHTS Check that the headlights, stop lights, taillights, turn signal lights, and other lights illuminate or blink. Also, check that they have enough brightness.
  3. WARNING LIGHTS AND BUZZERS Check that all the warning lights and buzzers are working.
  4. HORNS Check that the horn is working.
  5. WINDSHIELD GLASS Check for scratches, pits or abrasions.
  6. WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER Check that the washers are aimed properly. Also, check that the washer fluid hits the center of the operating range of each wiper on the windshield. Check if the wipers streak. Replace the wiper if necessary.
  7. WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER When the heater or air conditioner is on the defroster setting, check that air comes out of the defroster outlet.
  8. REAR VIEW MIRROR Check that the rear view mirror is securely mounted.
  9. SUN VISORS Check that the sun visors move freely and are securely mounted.
  10. STEERING WHEEL Check that the steering wheel has the proper amount of free play. Also check for steering difficulty and unusual noises.
  11. SEATS Check that the seat adjusters, seatback recliner and other seat controls operate smoothly. Check that all the latches lock securely in all positions. Check that the locks hold securely in all positions. Check that the headrests move up and down smoothly and that the locks hold securely in all latched positions. When the 3rd seat is stored, check that the latches lock securely.
  12. SEAT BELTS Check that the seat belt system components, such as the buckles, retractors and anchors, operate properly and smoothly. Check that the belt webbing is not cut, frayed, worn or damaged.
  13. ACCELERATOR PEDAL Check that the pedal operates smoothly. In other words, check that the pedal does not have uneven pedal resistance or become stuck in certain positions.
  14. BRAKE PEDAL Check that the pedal operates smoothly. Check that the pedal has the proper reserve distance and free play. Operate the brake pedal and check that all the stop lights illuminate.
  15. BRAKES In a safe place, check that the vehicle remains straight when applying the brakes.
  16. PARKING BRAKE Check that the lever has the proper range of motion. On a low incline, check that the parking brake alone can stabilize the vehicle.
  17. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION "PARK" MECHANISM Check the lock release button of the shift lever for proper and smooth operation. When the shift lever is in P and all brakes are released on a low incline, check that the vehicle is stable.

  2. WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID Check that there is sufficient fluid in the tank.

  4. RADIATOR AND HOSES Check that the front of the radiator is clean and free of leaves, dirt and bugs. Check the hoses for cracks, kinks, rotting or loose connections.
  5. BATTERY ELECTROLYTE LEVEL Check that the electrolyte level of all the battery cells is between the upper and lower lines on the case. HINT: If the electrolyte level is difficult to see, lightly shake the vehicle.
  6. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL Check that the brake fluid levels are near the upper level line on the see-through reservoirs. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603898-S04774724212014031100000).
  7. ENGINE DRIVE BELT Check the drive belt for fraying, cracks, wear or oiliness. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(/lexus/lx/j200-facelift-2012-2015/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-service-information) .
  8. ENGINE OIL LEVEL Check the oil level on the dipstick with the engine turned off. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(/lexus/lx/j200-facelift-2012-2015/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication-system-inspection) .
  9. POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL Check the level on the dipstick. The level should be in the "HOT" or "COLD" range depending on the fluid temperature. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603901-S11045738892014031100000).
  10. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID Visually check the overflow plug and oil pan for fluid leaks or traces of fluid.
  11. EXHAUST SYSTEM Check for unusual exhaust sounds or abnormal exhaust fumes. Locate the cause and correct it.

HINT

Inspect these items on a cooled down engine.

  2. REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER Replace the engine oil and oil filter. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603902-S10124911572014031100000).
  3. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 1»(/lexus/lx/j200-facelift-2012-2015/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#engine-cooling-system-inspection)
  4. REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT Replace the engine coolant. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603903-S30659131412014031100000).
  5. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS Visually check the pipes, hangers and connections for severe corrosion, leaks or damage.
  6. INSPECT AIR CLEANER FILTER Remove the air cleaner filter. Visually check that the air cleaner filter is not excessively damaged or oily. Replace the air cleaner filter with a new one if necessary.
  7. INSPECT FUEL LINES, FUEL LINE CONNECTIONS, FUEL TANK VAPOR VENT SYSTEM HOSES AND FUEL TANK BAND Visually check the fuel lines and hoses for cracks, leakage, loose connections and deformation. Also, visually check the tank band for looseness.
  8. INSPECT FUEL TANK CAP GASKET. Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 1»(ref-603904-S09686246552014031100000)
  9. REPLACE SPARK PLUGS Replace the spark plugs. Refer to «REMOVAL [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603905-S17442316292014031100000).

  1. INSPECT BRAKE SHOE LININGS AND DRUMS, PADS AND DISCS Check the brake pads and discs. Inspect the front brake pads and discs. Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603906-S21506740192014031100000). Inspect the rear brake pads and discs. Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603907-S15928099732014031100000). Check the parking brake shoe linings and drums. Inspect the parking brake shoe linings. Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603908-S12679367152014031100000).
  2. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 1»(ref-603898-S03630599002014031100000)
  3. REPLACE BRAKE FLUID Replace the brake fluid. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603898-S25744069502014031100000).
  4. INSPECT BRAKE LINES AND HOSES HINT: Work in a well-lighted area. Using a mirror, check the entire circumference and length of the brake lines and hoses for: Damage Wear Deformation Cracks Corrosion Leaks Bends Twists Check all the clamps for tightness and the connections for leakage. Check that the hoses and lines are not near sharp edges, moving parts or the exhaust system. Check that the lines are installed properly and pass through the center of the grommets.

  1. INSPECT STEERING LINKAGE Check the steering wheel free play. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 1»(ref-603909-S27983450062014031100000). Check the steering linkage for looseness or damage. Check that the tie rod ends do not have excessive play. Check that the dust seals and boots are not damaged. Check that the boot clamps are not loose. Check that the steering gear housing is not damaged.
  2. INSPECT STEERING GEAR BOX . Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 2»(/lexus/lx/j200-facelift-2012-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#steering-gear-linkage-service-information)
  3. INSPECT BALL JOINT AND DUST COVER Inspect the front suspension upper arm assembly. Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603911-S23235282952014031100000). Inspect the front suspension lower arm assembly. Refer to «INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603911-S25974104672014031100000).
  4. INSPECT DRIVE SHAFT BOOTS Check the drive shaft boots for loose clamps, grease leakage, kinks or damage.
  5. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID Inspect the automatic transmission fluid and correct or replace as necessary. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603912-S34223235302014031100000).
  6. INSPECT TRANSFER OIL Inspect the transfer oil. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603913-S26868117742014031100000). Replace the transfer oil as necessary. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603913-S41093517532014031100000).
  7. INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OIL Check the front differential oil level. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ] - Step 2»(ref-603914-S25550321752014031100000).
  8. REPLACE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OIL Replace the front differential oil. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603914-S17314492782014031100000).
  9. INSPECT REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL Check the rear differential oil level. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ] - Step 2»(ref-603914-S25550321752014031100000).
  10. REPLACE REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL Replace the rear differential oil. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603914-S17314492782014031100000).
  11. REPLACE ACTIVE HEIGHT CONTROL SUSPENSION FLUID Discharge the suspension fluid pressure. Refer to «REMOVAL [01/2012 - ] - Step 1»(ref-603915-S13287979852014031100000). Fill the reservoir tank with the suspension fluid. Refer to «BLEEDING [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603916-S02046220042014031100000).
  12. INSPECT SUSPENSION CONTROL ACCUMULATOR ASSEMBLY Inspect the front suspension control accumulator assembly. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 3»(ref-603915-S35877286702014031100000). Inspect the rear suspension control accumulator assembly. Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [01/2012 - ] - Step 3»(ref-603915-S03640301142014031100000).
  13. LUBRICATE PROPELLER SHAFT AND TIGHTEN BOLTS Lubricate the propeller shaft by referring to the lubrication chart. Before pumping in grease, wipe off any mud and dust on the grease fitting. For front propeller shaft HINT: When replacing a spider bearing, be sure that the grease fitting hole is facing the direction shown in the illustration. For propeller shaft HINT: When replacing a spider bearing, be sure that the grease fitting hole is facing the direction shown in the illustration. Tighten the bolts of the propeller shaft.   1. BODY INSPECTION Check the body exterior for dents, scratches and rust. Check the underbody for rust and damage.
  2. REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING FILTER Remove the air conditioning filter. Refer to «DISASSEMBLY [01/2012 - ]»(ref-603919-S42782376802014031100000). Visually inspect the surface of the air conditioning filter. If the air conditioning filter is contaminated with foreign matter, replace it.
  3. ROAD TEST Check the engine and chassis for abnormal noises. Check that the brakes work properly and do not drag. Set the parking brake shoes and drums.
  4. TIGHTEN BOLTS AND NUTS ON CHASSIS AND BODY Tighten the bolts and nuts on the chassis parts listed below if necessary. Front axle and suspension Drivetrain Rear axle and suspension Brake system Engine mounting Other chassis parts Tighten the bolts and nuts on the body parts listed below if necessary.   5. FINAL INSPECTION Check the operation of these vehicle body parts. Hood Auxiliary catch operates properly. Hood locks securely when closed. Front and rear doors Door locks operate properly. Doors close properly. Back door Door lock operates properly. Seats Seat adjusts easily and locks securely in any position. Seatback of each seat locks securely in any position. 3rd seat locks safely when stored. Be sure that the vehicle is clean before returning it to the customer. In particular, pay attention to the following: Steering wheel Parking brake lever Shift lever knob All switch knobs Door handles Seats
