MODES OF REGISTRATION
There are 4 registration (programming) modes
- Add Mode Adds a transmitter without erasing existing transmitter codes. Four transmitter codes can be registered at one time. If number of registered codes exceeds 4, previously registered codes are erased in order, starting with first registered code.
- Rewrite Mode Erases all previously registered transmitter codes and reprograms new transmitters.
- Confirmation Mode Informs user of number of existing transmitter codes already programmed in system.
- Prohibition Mode Erases all existing registered transmitter codes and cancels wireless door lock operation. Use this function if transmitter is lost or stolen.
REGISTRATION OF RECOGNITION CODE
- To begin programming, remove key from ignition switch. Ensure driver's door is open and unlocked, and all other doors are closed. Insert key into ignition switch, and then remove it. Go to next step.
- Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: press door lock switch to LOCK position, and then within one second, press door lock switch to UNLOCK position. Repeat procedure continuously until door locks have been locked and unlocked 5 times. Close, and then open driver's door. Go to next step.
- Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: repeat procedure in step 2 , except for closing and opening driver's door. Insert key into ignition switch. To enter desired mode, turn ignition switch to ON position and back to LOCK position (one cycle), within one second, the specified number of times. See «REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION»(ref-3420-S26145163962000050300000) table. Remove key from ignition switch. Go to next step. - If any mode other than confirmation mode is selected, go to next step. If confirmation mode was selected, door locks will cycle 0-4 times depending on how many transmitter codes are stored in ECU. Example: two stored codes equals 2 door lock/unlock cycles. Registration of confirmation code is complete after door locks cycle.
- Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: if add mode, rewrite mode or prohibition mode is selected, to confirm proper initiation, door locks will automatically cycle one time for add mode, 2 times for rewrite mode and 5 times for prohibition mode. Press transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 1.5 seconds, and then within 3 seconds, press any transmitter button for at least one second. Go to next step.
- If within 3 seconds, door locks cycle one time, new transmitter code has been successfully accepted. Go to next step. If door locks cycle 2 times, new transmitter code was not accepted. To program an additional transmitter or to make a second attempt, return to step 5 within 40 seconds.
- Registration of recognition codes is complete under any of the following conditions: Forty seconds has elapsed since wireless door lock ECU has responded. Driver's door is closed. Key is inserted into ignition key cylinder. Four recognition codes are registered at one time.
CIRCUIT TESTS
Note. Ensure power door locks are operating properly before proceeding with system tests. See POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
DOOR COURTESY SWITCH CIRCUIT
- Ensure open door warning light illuminates when each door is opened, and turns off when all doors are closed. If open door warning light operates as specified, go to next step. If door open warning light operation is not as specified, check door open warning light circuit. See wiring diagrams in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. Repair as necessary.
- Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 14 (Red/White wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage is present, perform next inspection listed in symptom diagnosis table. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(ref-3420-S01263470832000050300000). If battery voltage is not present, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and door courtesy switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000).
Lock Circuit
Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 15 (Blue/White wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage is present, perform next inspection listed in symptom diagnosis table. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS. If battery voltage is not present, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and door key lock/unlock switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
Unlock Circuit
Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 7 (Green/Black wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage is present, perform next inspection listed in symptom diagnosis table. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS. If battery voltage is not present, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and door key lock/unlock switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
DOOR UNLOCK DETECTION SWITCH CIRCUIT
- Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 11 (Blue/Black wire). (Scheme 5) Battery voltage should be present with driver's door lock knob in LOCK position. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and door unlock detection switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000).
- Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 12 (Blue/Orange wire). (Scheme 5) Battery voltage should be present with passenger's door lock knob in LOCK position. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and door unlock detection switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000).
- Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 6 (Gray/Blue wire). (Scheme 5) Battery voltage should be present with either rear passenger's door or rear door lock knob in LOCK position. If voltage is as specified, perform next inspection listed in symptom diagnosis table. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(ref-3420-S01263470832000050300000). If voltage is not as specified, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and appropriate door unlock detection switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000).
ECU POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT
- Check ECU-B1 fuse (10-amp) located in engine compartment junction block. Replace fuse if necessary and check wiring for short. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000). Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
- Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 8 (Green/Red wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage is present, perform next inspection listed in symptom diagnosis table. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(ref-3420-S01263470832000050300000). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Check for open in White/Black wire (GND circuit) between chassis ground and wireless door lock ECU. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000). Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and battery.
IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT
- Check GAUGE fuse (15-amp) located in driver-side junction block. Replace fuse if necessary and check related wiring and components for short. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000). Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect wireless door lock ECU. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 13 (Red/Blue wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage is present, check wireless door lock ECU. See «WIRELESS DOOR LOCK ECU CIRCUIT»(ref-3420-S32499534442000050300000). Repair as necessary. If battery voltage is not present, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and battery. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000).
KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH CIRCUIT
Remove key from ignition switch. Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 10 (Red/Black wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) If battery voltage is present, perform next inspection listed in symptom diagnosis table. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS. If battery voltage is not present, repair harness and/or connectors between wireless door lock ECU and key unlock warning switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
TAILLIGHT RELAY CIRCUIT
- Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 4 (Green/Black wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) Check for one short voltage signal as LOCK button is pressed on transmitter, and 2 short voltage signals as UNLOCK button is pressed on transmitter. If voltage signals are as specified, go to next step. If voltage signals are not as specified, replace wireless door lock ECU.
- Check for open in taillight relay circuit between wireless door lock ECU and taillight control relay. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000). Repair as necessary.
WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER CIRCUIT
Note. Wireless door lock buzzer may be equipped with volume control. Ensure volume is set to an audible level before replacing buzzer assembly.
- Disconnect wireless door lock buzzer. Using DVOM, measure resistance between buzzer terminals. Resistance should be about 1000 ohms. Replace buzzer if necessary. If buzzer is okay, go to next step.
- Remove wireless door lock ECU (leave wire harness connected). Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 3 (Blue wire) at wireless door lock ECU harness connector. (Scheme 5) Check for one short voltage signal as LOCK button is pressed on transmitter, and 2 short voltage signals as UNLOCK button is pressed on transmitter. If voltage signals are as specified, go to next step. If voltage signals are not as specified, replace wireless door lock ECU.
- Check for open in buzzer circuit between wireless door lock ECU and buzzer. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3420-S16589035652000050300000). Repair as necessary.
WIRELESS DOOR LOCK ECU CIRCUIT
Note. Perform this procedure only when directed to by another test procedure.
Ensure all remote keyless entry system components are connected. Check circuit values by backprobing between ground and/or specified terminals at wireless door lock ECU. (Scheme 5) Ensure circuit values are as specified under all listed conditions. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK ECU CIRCUIT VALUES table. If circuit values are not as specified, check and repair wire harness and system components as necessary. If circuits are okay, wireless door lock ECU is faulty.
