- REMOVE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH Loosen the lock nut of the front shock absorber. NOTE: Do not remove the lock nut. Loosen the lock nut only when disassembling the front shock absorber with coil spring. Remove the 3 nuts from the upper side of the front suspension support. Slowly lower the jack. Remove the bolt from the lower side to remove the front shock absorber with coil spring.
Note. Be sure to read the "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing (see SUSPENSION CONTROL SYSTEM ).

- REMOVE AIR CONNECTOR CLIP HOLDER Pinch and pull the air connector clip holder to release the connector No. 1.
- DISCONNECT NO. 4 HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE Pinch and pull the connector No. 1 to release it. Using SST, disconnect the No. 4 height control tube from the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly. SST 09730-00010 NOTE: After pulling out the height control tube, replace the O-ring and plate with new ones.
- DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH (for 2WD) Support the steering knuckle LH with a jack and wooden block. Remove the bolt and nut, and then disconnect the bottom side of the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly from the front No. 2 suspension lower arm LH. Remove the nut and clip. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer A) onto the front No. 2 suspension lower arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.) between the arm and spacers. SST 09960-20010 (09961 -02050) NOTE: Make sure install the spacers (SST spacer A) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift. As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or less. Using SST, disconnect the No. 2 suspension lower arm LH from the steering knuckle LH. SST 09960-20010 (09961 -02010) NOTE: Do not damage the dust cover. As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel. Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping. Loosen the nut of the No. 2 suspension lower arm.
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) Remove the 4 clips and air cleaner inlet cover.

- REMOVE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH (for AWD) Remove the 3 nuts and front shock absorber cap LH. Disconnect the connector.
- REMOVE ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR Turn the absorber control actuator counterclockwise 40° and remove it from the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly.
- REMOVE PNEUMATIC FRONT WITH SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH (for 2WD) Remove the 3 nuts and pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly. NOTE: Hold the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly to prevent it from dropping.
- REMOVE PNEUMATIC FRONT WITH SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD) Remove the nut and upper front shock absorber bracket plate, and disconnect the lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH from the front No. 1 suspension lower arm LH. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the skid control sensor wire from the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH. Remove the 3 nuts and front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH. NOTE: Hold the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH to prevent it from dropping.
- REMOVE LOWER FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD) Remove the bolt and lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH.
- REMOVE FRONT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER LH O-RING HINT: If replacing the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly with a new one, this procedure is not necessary. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 clips and remove the tube connector. Using a screwdriver, remove the plate and 2 O-rings.

- INSPECT PNEUMATIC FRONT LH WITH SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY Extend the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber and check that it is as described below. OK: While extending the cylinder at a constant speed, the load is constant for each stroke and there is no abnormal feedback or noises. Also, the cylinder returns at a constant speed when extended. If an abnormality is found, replace the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber with a new one. NOTE: When extending the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber front LH, do not block the air inlet/outlet opening. While adjusting the damping force control rod to hard, semihard, medium, soft and semisoft, inspect the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly by compressing and extending it. OK: There is a difference in the damping force.

- INSTALL FRONT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER LH O-RING HINT: It is unnecessary to perform the following procedures if the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber has been replaced with a new one. Lightly coat 2 new O-rings with MP grease. Install the 2 new O-rings and a new plate to a straight tube or equivalent, as shown in the illustration. Insert the tube end with the 2 O-rings and plate into the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber rear LH. Then, lightly push in the O-rings and plate with a thick piece of paper. While holding the O-rings and plate in place with the paper, slowly pull out the tube. Install a new tube connector. NOTE: Push in the tube connector until a "click" sound is heard.
- INSTALL PNEUMATIC FRONT LH WITH SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) Install the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly on the vehicle by installing the 3 nuts on the suspension support side. Torque: 67 N*m (683 kgf*cm, 49 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL LOWER FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD) Install the lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH to the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH with the bolt. Torque: 48 N*m (489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL PNEUMATIC FRONT LH W/SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSY (for AWD) Install the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH on the vehicle by installing the 3 nuts on the suspension support side. Torque: 67 N*m (683 kgf*cm, 49 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR Check that the control rod of the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly is in the position shown in the illustration. NOTE: If the control rod is not in the position shown in the illustration, turn the control rod to adjust the position and install the absorber control actuator. Install the absorber control actuator to the actuator support bracket. Turn the actuator clockwise approximately 40° until a click is felt. NOTE: Do not excessively turn the actuator.
- INSTALL FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH (for 2WD) Connect the connector to the shock absorber control actuator. Install the shock absorber cap with the 3 nuts. Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH (for AWD) Connect the connector to the shock absorber control actuator. Install the shock absorber cap with the 3 nuts. Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

- TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH (for 2WD) Temporarily install the front No. 2 suspension lower arm with the nut. HINT: Tighten the nut after the vehicle is stabilized. Temporarily install the front No. 2 suspension lower arm LH to the steering knuckle with the nut. HINT: Tighten the nut after the vehicle is stabilized. Install the bottom side of the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly to the No. 2 suspension lower arm LH. Then insert the bolt from the rear of the vehicle and temporarily install it with the nut. HINT: Tighten the nut after the vehicle is stabilized.
- TEMPORARILY INSTALL LOWER FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD) Install the lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH to the front No. 1 suspension lower arm LH. Align the protrusion of the front shock absorber upper bracket plate with cutout of the lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH, and temporarily install the nut. Install the skid control sensor wire to the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH with the bolt. NOTE: Do not twist the skid control sensor wire. When installing the bolt, do not deform the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH.
- CONNECT NO. 4 HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE Connect the No. 4 height control tube to the cylinder. Connect the No. 1 tube connector.
- INSTALL AIR CONNECTOR CLIP HOLDER Install the air connector clip holder to the No. 1 tube connector.

- PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform the initialization (see «INITIALIZATION»(ref-349706-S07943075812009120800000) ). NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- STABILIZE SUSPENSION (for 2WD) Install the front wheel. Torque: 140 N*m (1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf) Lower the vehicle and start the engine. Then fill the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly with air. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the front suspension. Remove the front wheel. NOTE: Do not turn the engine switch on (IG). Jack up the front suspension lower arm with a wooden block between the jack and front suspension lower arm. Apply a load to the front suspension so that the front suspension lower arm is placed in a horizontal position.
- STABILIZE SUSPENSION (for AWD) Install the front wheels. Torque: 140 N*m (1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf) Lower the vehicle and start the engine. Then fill the front pneumatic shock absorber with cylinder assembly LH with air. HINT: If the vehicle height is not restored within 2 minutes, stop the engine and then start the engine again. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the front suspension. Remove the front wheels. NOTE: Do not turn the power switch ON (IG). Jack up the front suspension lower arm with a wooden block between the jack and front suspension lower arm. Apply a load to the front suspension so that the front suspension lower arm is horizontal.

- DISPOSE OF PNEUMATIC FRONT LH WITH SHOCK ABSORBER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY Fully extend the front shock absorber rod. Using a drill, make a hole in the cylinder somewhere between A and B shown in the illustration to discharge the gas inside. CAUTION: Be careful as the cylinder is a high-pressure gas type which is at a higher pressure than normal shock absorbers. Also be careful with high temperatures as the cylinder's pressure becomes even higher. NOTE: The gas is colorless, odorless and harmless.

- INSPECT FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER ARM BALL JOINT RATTLE Jack up the vehicle. Move the front suspension upper arm up and down by hand, and check for rattle. OK: No rattle.

- INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH Inspect the turning of the upper ball joint. Install the installation nut to the ball joint stud. Move the stud back and forth 5 times. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the fifth turn. Standard turning torque: 3.5 N*m (36 kgf*cm, 31 in.*lbf) or less If the value is not within the specified range, replace the front suspension upper arm with a new one. Check the dust boots for cracks or grease leakage.
- INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH Inspect the turning of the upper ball joint. Install the installation nut to the ball joint stud. Move the stud back and forth 5 times. Using SST, disconnect the front No. 1 suspension lower arm assembly LH from the steering knuckle. SST 09960-20010 (09961 -02010) NOTE: Do not damage the dust cover of the lower arm No. 1. As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel. Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle, to prevent SST from dropping. Remove the bolt and nut, and then remove the No. 1 suspension lower arm LH.
- DISCONNECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Remove the bolt, and then remove the bracket of the front height control sensor LH.
- REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH Remove the 2 nuts and front stabilizer link assembly LH. HINT: If the stud bolt turns with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.
- REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH Support the steering knuckle LH with a jack and wooden block. Remove the bolt and nut, and then disconnect the bottom side of the pneumatic front LH with shock absorber cylinder assembly from the front No. 2 suspension lower arm LH. Remove the nut and clip. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer A) onto the front No. 2 suspension lower arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.) between the arm and spacers. SST 09960-20010(09961-02050) NOTE: Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer A) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift. As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or less. - REMOVE HEIGHT CONTROL VALVE O-RING HINT: It is unnecessary to perform the following procedures if the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber has been replaced with a new one. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 clips and remove the tube connector. Using a screwdriver, remove the plate and 2 O-rings.

- INSPECT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER WITH REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH Extend the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber and check that it is as described below. Standard: While extending the cylinder at a constant speed, the load is constant for each stroke and there is no abnormal feedback or noises. Also, the cylinder returns at a constant speed when extended. If an abnormality is found, replace the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber with a new one. NOTE: When extending the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber rear LH, do not block the air inlet/outlet opening. While adjusting the damping force control rod to hard, semihard, medium, soft and semisoft, inspect the pneumatic cylinder assembly with rear shock absorber LH by compressing and extending it. Standard: The damping forces are not the same.

- INSTALL HEIGHT CONTROL VALVE O-RING HINT: It is unnecessary to perform the following procedures if the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber has been replaced with a new one. Apply a light coat of MP grease No. 2 to 2 new O-rings. Install the 2 O-rings and a new plate to a height control tube or equivalent, as shown in the illustration. NOTE: Set the plate between the 2 O-rings. Insert the tube end with the 2 O-rings and plate into the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber. Then, lightly push in the O-rings and plate with a thick piece of paper. While holding the O-rings and plate in place with the paper, slowly pull out the tube. Install a new tube connector. NOTE: Push in the tube connector until a "click" sound is heard.
- TEMPORARILY INSTALL PNEUMATIC CYLINDER WITH REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH Install the rear shock absorber on the vehicle by installing the 3 nuts on the suspension support side. Torque: 64 N*m (653 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf) Temporarily install the rear shock absorber lower side on the rear axle carrier with the washer and new nut. Insert the height control tube into the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber. Pinch the connector No. 1 and set its tips into the groove of the shock absorber.
- INSTALL ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR Check that the control rod of the rear shock absorber is in the position shown in the illustration. NOTE: If the control rod is not in the position shown in the illustration, turn the control rod to adjust the position and install the absorber control actuator. Install the absorber control actuator to the actuator support bracket. Turn the actuator clockwise approximately 40° until a click is felt. NOTE: Do not excessively turn the actuator.
- CONNECT CONNECTOR Connect the connector to the shock absorber control actuator.
