SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL This system has the following functions: manual slide open and close; AUTO slide open and close; manual tilt up and down; AUTO tilt up and down; jam protection. HINT: If the driver side door is opened with the engine switch off and the sliding roof open, the buzzer sounds and the combination meter displays that the sliding roof is open.
  2.   3. SYSTEM OPERATION The sliding roof has the following features.   1. CHECK AUTO OPERATION Turn the engine switch on (IG). When the roof glass is fully closed, press the SLIDE OPEN switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass automatically slides until it is fully opened. When the roof glass is fully open, press the SLIDE CLOSE switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass automatically slides until it is fully closed. When the roof glass is fully closed, press the TILT UP switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass automatically tilts until it is fully tilted upward. When the roof glass is fully tilt up, press the TILT DOWN switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass automatically tilts until it is fully tilted downward. When the AUTO operation is operating, check that pressing any sliding roof switch stops the roof glass operation. HINT: When pressing the switch for 0.3 seconds or less, the roof glass moves but AUTO operation does not operate.
  2. CHECK SLIDING ROOF OPERATION AFTER ENGINE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF Turn the engine switch from on (IG) to off, and check that the sliding roof operates. Then open the driver side door once, and check that the sliding roof does not operate. Turn the engine switch from on (IG) to off and wait for approximately 45 seconds. Check that the sliding roof does not operate. Operate the AUTO (SLIDE OPEN/CLOSE or TILT UP/DOWN) operation. While the roof glass is in motion, turn the engine switch from on (IG) to off. Check that the AUTO operation continues until the roof glass opens or closes fully. HINT: When the driver door opens, the sliding roof operation will stop.
  3. CHECK JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION CAUTION: Do not use a part of your body, for example, your hand, to check the jam protection. Do not allow anything to become caught in the sliding roof by accident in this procedure. Perform the inspection from the inside of the vehicle. NOTE: Do not use hard objects such as a hammer, to avoid damage to the roof. If the jam protection does not operate, initialize the sliding roof drive gear (motor). When the sliding roof AUTO close operation is operating and an object is caught between the vehicle body and glass, check that the roof glass opens a distance of 218 mm (8.58 in.) from the point of contact with the object, or opens fully if an opening distance of 218 mm (8.58 in.) is not available. When the AUTO TILT DOWN function is operating, and an object is caught between the vehicle body and the roof glass, check that the sliding roof tilts up fully.
  4. CHECK TRANSMITTER-LINKED OPEN OPERATION FUNCTION Close all the doors. Hold down the transmitter's UNLOCK switch for approximately 3 seconds or more and check that the SLIDE OPEN/TILT UP operation occurs. Also, when the UNLOCK switch is released, check that the roof glass stops moving.
  5. CHECK KEY-LINKED OPEN/CLOSE OPERATION FUNCTION (DRIVER'S DOOR ONLY) Insert the key into the driver side door's key lock cylinder, and turn the key to the UNLOCK position for approximately 3 seconds or more. Check that the sliding roof starts moving (SLIDE OPEN/TILT UP operation). Then release the key and check that the sliding roof stops moving. Insert the key into the driver side door's key lock cylinder, and turn the key to the LOCK position for approximately 3 seconds or more. Check that the sliding roof starts moving (SLIDE CLOSE/TILT DOWN operation). Then release the key and check that the sliding roof stops moving.
  6. CHECK ENTRY LOCK SWITCH-LINKED CLOSE OPERATION FUNCTION Close all the doors, open the roof glass and check that the key is not in the vehicle. When the entry lock switch on the door outside handle is pressed for 3 seconds or more, check that the roof glass closes. Also, when the entry lock switch is released, check that the roof glass stops operating.

DESCRIPTION

When the sliding roof drive gear (sliding roof ECU) detects the motor malfunction, and the sliding roof operation is stopped, DTC B2341 is output. When the sliding roof drive gear (sliding roof ECU) detects the gear malfunction, and the sliding roof operation is stopped, DTC B2344 is output.

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SLIDING ROOF DRIVE GEAR - MAP LIGHT) Disconnect the X5 drive gear connector. Disconnect the X4 and X6 map light connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. This DTC is output when the sliding roof drive gear (sliding roof ECU) detects that the SLIDE OPEN or TILT UP switch in the map light is stuck for 30 seconds or more.

DTC DETECTION CONDITION CHART

The sliding roof drive gear (sliding roof ECU) receives slide switch and tilt switch signals and drives its built-in motor.

If the sliding function and tilt function do not operate, there may be a malfunction in the sliding roof ECU power source circuit.

  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH (See «REMOVAL» )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation. NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY (for Standard Body) Remove the roof headlining (see «REMOVAL» ).

  1. REMOVE SLIDING ROOF DRIVE GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY Detach the bracket's claw and remove the bracket. Remove the 2 bolts and drive gear.
  2. REMOVE SUNSHADE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the 2 screws and sliding roof piece LH and RH. Slide and remove the trim.
  3. REMOVE SLIDING ROOF DRIVE CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY NOTE: Do not disassemble the sliding roof drive cable sub-assembly except when replacing it. Remove the 2 screws and 2 stoppers. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws. Then slide the sliding roof drip channel rearward to remove it. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. Hold down the window deflector. Using a screwdriver, slide the sliding roof drive cable sub-assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove it.

  1. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF DRIVE CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Hold down the window deflector. NOTE: Check and be sure that the spring indicated by the arrow in the illustration is securely installed. Using a screwdriver, slide the drive cable in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration to install it. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. Attach the 2 claws to install the drip channel. Install the 2 sliding roof side stoppers with the 2 screws.
  2. ADJUST SLIDING ROOF DRIVE CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Using a screwdriver, align the matchmarks by sliding the drive cable in the directions indicated by the arrow in the illustration. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  3. INSTALL SUNSHADE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY Insert the sunshade trim into the sliding roof housing. Install the sliding roof piece LH and RH with the 2 screws.
  4. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF DRIVE GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the drive gear with the 2 bolts. Torque: 5.4 N*m (5.5 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) Attach the bracket's claw to install the bracket.

  1. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY Temporarily install the housing with the 14 bolts (vehicle body side) and 8 nuts. Tighten the 8 nuts. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) Tighten the 14 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Connect the 4 drain hoses. NOTE: The clip must face toward the outside of the vehicle and also be above the lower surface of the sliding roof housing when installing the drain hoses.
  2. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF GARNISH FRONT Attach the 5 claws to install the front garnish.
  3. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF GLASS SUB-ASSEMBLY Using a T25 "TORX" driver, temporarily install the glass with the 4 screws. Perform a level check. Check the difference in the level for "a" between the roof panel and the upper surface of the weather strip when the sliding roof glass is fully closed. Standard STANDARD SPECIFICATION Area Measurement A - A -2.0 to +1.0 mm (-0.079 to +0.039 in.) B - B -1.0 to +2.0 mm (-0.039 to +0.079 in.) C - C -1.5 to +1.5 mm (-0.059 to +0.059 in.) D - D -1.0 to +1.5 mm (-0.039 to +0.059 in.) HINT: "+" represents the condition that the glass is above the panel level. "-" represents the condition that the glass is below the panel level. Perform a gap check. Check the gap between the roof panel and roof glass. NOTE: The gap must be even all around. Tighten the 4 screws. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf)
  4. CHECK FOR WATER LEAKS After adjusting the sliding roof glass sub-assembly, check for water leaks. If there are any leaks, readjust the sliding roof glass sub-assembly.
  5. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF SIDE GARNISH LH Attach the 5 claws to install the sliding roof side garnish.
  6. INSTALL SLIDING ROOF SIDE GARNISH RH HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
  7. INSTALL ROOF SIDE NO. 1 AIR DUCT LH (w/ Rear Cooler) Install the duct with the 3 clips.
  8. INSTALL ROOF SIDE NO. 1 AIR DUCT RH (w/ Rear Cooler) HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
  9. INSTALL CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY LH Install the curtain shield airbag (see «INSTALLATION»(/lexus/ls/iv-2006-2012/remont/airbag/#supplemental-restraint-system) ).
  10. INSTALL CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY RH HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
  11. INSTALL ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY (for Long Body) Install the roof headlining (see «INSTALLATION» ).
  12. INSTALL ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY (for Standard Body) Install the roof headlining (see «INSTALLATION» ).
  13. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
  14. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH (See «INSTALLATION» )
  15. PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform initialization (see «INITIALIZATION» ). NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  16. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT Check the SRS warning light (see «DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM»(/lexus/ls/iv-2006-2012/remont/airbag/#supplemental-restraint-system) ).
