  1. POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The power window control system controls the power windows' UP/DOWN function using the regulator motors. The main controls of this system are: the power window regulator master switch assembly, which is built into the driver side door, and the power regulator switches, which are built into the passenger side door and rear doors. Pressing each regulator switch on the master switch assembly transmits a remote UP/DOWN signal to each door ECU via the BEAN line. Then each door ECU transmits this signal to the corresponding power window regulator motor.

Note. When the customer requests a change in a function, first make sure that customization of the function(s) is possible. Be sure to make a note of the current settings before customizing. When troubleshooting a function, first make sure that the function is not set to OFF.

Scheme 182: CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS

INITIALIZATION

  1. HOW TO RESET POWER WINDOW MOTOR (RESET SWITCH AND PULSE SWITCH) If the jam protection function does not function properly, perform the following procedures. HINT: Resetting the power window regulator motor (initializing the limit switch) is necessary if: 1)the window regulator is replaced or removed/installed, or 2) the window regulator is operated without the door glass installed. Remove the power window motor. HINT: Place the matchmarks on the power window motor and window regulator gear. Connect the power window motor and power window switch to the wire harness of the vehicle. Turn the ignition switch ON. Halfway pull up the power window switch. Rotate the power window motor between 6 to 10 revolutions, or for 4 seconds or more. Assemble the power window motor and regulator. HINT: Install the motor when the regulator arm is below the middle point. Align the matchmarks on the power window motor and window regulator gear. Assemble the power window regulator and door glass. HINT: Do not push down on the power window switch (rotate the motor downward) until the door glass installation has been completed. Connect the power window switch to the wire harness and turn the ignition switch ON. Repeat UP and DOWN operation several times manually. Check if AUTO UP/DOWN function operates normally. HINT: Be careful with the power window during AUTO operation. The jam protection function does not operate just after the power window motor is initialized. Use the power window's AUTO UP function to fully close the window. If the power window lowers after being fully closed, initialize the power window motor again. Check the power window function.

  1. CHECK DRIVER DOOR ECU Disconnect the D24 and D25 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage and resistance of each terminal of the wire harness side connectors. Standard: If the result is not as specified, there may be a malfunction on the wire harness side. Reconnect the D24 and D25 ECU connectors. Check the voltage of each terminal of the connector. Standard: If the result is not as specified, driver door ECU may have a malfunction.
  2. CHECK PASSENGER DOOR ECU Disconnect the F16 and F17 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage and resistance of each terminal of the wire harness side connectors. Standard: If the result is not as specified, the passenger door ECU may have a malfunction. Reconnect the R16 and R17 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage of each terminal of the connector. Standard: If the result is not as specified, the passenger door ECU may have a malfunction.
  3. CHECK REAR DOOR LH ECU Disconnect the R12 and R13 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage and resistance of each terminal of the wire harness side connectors. Standard: If the result is not as specified, the rear door LH ECU may have a malfunction. Reconnect the R12 and R13 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage of each terminal of the connectors. Standard: If the result is not as specified, the rear door LH ECU may have a malfunction.
  4. CHECK REAR DOOR RH ECU Disconnect the R14 and R15 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage and resistance of each terminal of the wire harness side connectors. Standard: If the result is not as specified, the rear door RH ECU may have a malfunction. Reconnect the R14 and R15 ECU connectors. Measure the voltage of each terminal of the connector. Standard: If the result is not as specified, rear door RH ECU may have a malfunction.

  1. DESCRIPTION The door ECUs control the power window control system functions on the vehicle. Power window control system data and the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) can be read in the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle. When the system seems to be malfunctioning, use the hand-held tester to check for malfunctions and perform repairs.
  2. CHECK DLC3 HINT: The vehicle uses the ISO 15765-4 for communication protocol. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 15765-4 format. If the result is not as specified, the DLC3 may have a malfunction. Repair or replace the harness and connector. HINT: Connect the cable of the hand-held tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3, turn the ignition switch ON and attempt to use the hand-held tester. If the screen displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE, a problem may be on the vehicle side or tester side. If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle. If communication is still impossible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem may be in the tester itself. Consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.
  3. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE Standard: 11 to 14V If the voltage is below 11 V, replace the battery before proceeding.

Scheme 203: DTC CHECK/CLEAR
  1. CHECK DTC Connect the hand-held tester to the Controller Area Network Vehicle Interface Module (CAN VIM). Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Read the DTCs by following the directions on the tester's screen. HINT: Refer to the hand-held tester operator manual for further details.
  2. CLEAR DTC Connect the hand-held tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Erase the DTCs by following the directions on the tester screen. HINT: Refer to the hand-held tester operator manual for further details.

  1. DATA LIST HINT: Using the hand-held tester DATA LIST allows switch, sensor, actuator and other item value to be read without removing any parts. Reading the DATA LIST early in troubleshooting is one way to shorten labor time. Connect the hand-held tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch ON. Read the DATA LIST according to the display on the tester. Driver door ECU: (Switch condition) Door ECU (Passenger, Rear LH, Rear RH): (Switch condition) Door ECU (All doors), Glass position)
  2. ACTIVE TEST NOTE: is test causes vehicle parts to move. Please watch your hands. HINT: Performing the hand-held tester ACTIVE TEST allows relay, VSV, actuator and other items to be operated without removing any parts. Performing the ACTIVE TEST early in troubleshooting is one way to shorten labor time. The DATA LIST can be displayed during the ACTIVE TEST. Connect the hand-held tester to the CAN VIM.
