ACTIVE TEST

Performing the ACTIVE TEST using the hand-held tester allows the meters, indicators and so on to operate without parts removal. Performing the ACTIVE TEST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to short labor time.

It is possible to display the DATA LIST on hand-held tester during the ACTIVE TEST.

  1. Connect the hand-held tester to DLC3.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. From the display on tester, perform the "ACTIVE TEST".

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select the "ACTIVE TEST". METER: OK: Needle indication is normal. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE «OVERHAUL»(ref-215685-S41769597212006011600000) ) OK: Go to next step.
  2. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL) Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select the "DATA LIST". METER: OK: Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed. NG: Go to step 3 OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE «OVERHAUL»(ref-215685-S41769597212006011600000) )
  3. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL) Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select the "DATA LIST" ABS: OK: Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed. NG: GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM (see «HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-209351-S14566736512005120900000) ) OK: Go to next step.
  4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY INSPECTION USING OSCILLOSCOPE Check the input signal waveform. Remove the combination meter assy. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals C12-18 and body ground. Start the engine. Check the signal waveform according to the condition (s) in the figure (Scheme 54) below. OK: Go to next step. As shown in the illustration HINT: As vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal waveform narrows. NG: Go to step 5 OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE «OVERHAUL»(ref-215685-S41769597212006011600000) ) CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (VSC) - COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE «ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-218525-S07507750332006020700000) ) Disconnect the C12 and S42 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 56) below. Standard: NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step.
  5. INSPECT ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (VSC) Disconnect the S42 connector. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 58) below. Standard: NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE «OVERHAUL»(ref-215685-S41769597212006011600000) ) OK: GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM (see «HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-209351-S14566736512005120900000) )

  4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY INSPECTION USING OSCILLOSCOPE Check the input signal waveform. Remove the combination meter assy. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals C12-4 and body ground. Start the engine. Check the signal waveform according to the condition (s) in the figure (Scheme 65) below. OK: Go to next step.   5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE «ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-218525-S07507750332006020700000) ) Disconnect the C12 and E2 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 67) below. Standard: NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step.
  6. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY Disconnect the E2 connector. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 69) below.   3. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (FUEL GAUGE) Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select the "DATA LIST". BODY No.4: OK: Go to next step. Fuel value signal displayed on the tester is almost the same as needle indication. NG: Go to step 4 OK: Go to step 5
  4. REPLACE LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY OK: Go to next step. Normal operation NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE «OVERHAUL»(ref-215685-S41769597212006011600000) ) OK: END
  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSY (MAIN) Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 75) below. Standard: Remove the fuel sender gauge assy. Connect the fuel sender gauge connector. Check that the float position is between E and F. Measure the voltage between the terminals 2 and 1 of connector according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 76) below. Standard: NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSY (MAIN) OK: Go to next step.
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSY - LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY) (SEE «ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-218525-S07507750332006020700000) ) Disconnect the F19, L13 and L14 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 79) below. Standard: NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step.
  7. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSY (SUB) Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 81) below. Standard: Remove the fuel sender gauge assy. Connect the fuel sender gauge connector. Check that the float position is between E and F. Measure the voltage between the terminals 2 and 1 of connector according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 82) below. Standard: NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSY (SU) OK: Go to next step.
  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSY - LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY) (SEE «ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-218525-S07507750332006020700000) ) Disconnect the F20, L13 and 14 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the figure (Scheme 85) below. Standard: NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: REPLACE LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY
