ELECTROCHROMATIC REAR VIEW & SIDE MIRRORS

Check P-IG fuse, electrochromatic mirror and wiring harness.

MIRROR DEFOGGER

Note. See REAR WINDOW & SIDE MIRROR DEFOGGERS article.

Note. Prior to trouble shooting, ensure no problems exist in multiplex communications. If problems exist, repair multiplex control system before trouble shooting. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - LS430 article.

DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CIRCUIT

Disconnect driver's door ECU harness connector. Disconnect driving position memory and return switch harness connector. Check for continuity between specified position memory and return switch terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . See DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CIRCUIT CONTINUITY table. If continuity is as specified, check driving position memory and return switch. See DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If continuity is not as specified, repair open circuit(s).

Note. For power mirror motor circuit testing, see POWER MIRROR MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS.

POWER MIRROR SWITCH CIRCUIT

Disconnect driver's side junction block ECU harness connector. Disconnect mirror switch harness connector. Check for continuity between specified harness connector terminals. See MIRROR SWITCH CIRCUIT CONTINUITY table. If continuity is as specified, check mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If continuity is not as specified, repair open circuit(s).

DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH

Remove driving position memory and return switch. Check for continuity between specified driving position memory and return switch terminals (component side) with switch in specified position. See DRIVING POSITION MEMORY & RETURN SWITCH CONTINUITY table. (Scheme 3) If continuity is not as specified, replace driving position memory and return switch.

POWER MIRROR POSITION SENSOR

  1. Disconnect power mirror motor harness connector. Connect three 1.5-volt dry cell batteries together in series. (Scheme 4) Connect dry cell battery positive lead to terminal No. 5 and negative lead to terminal No. 14. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 6 and negative lead to terminal No. 14.
  2. While watching voltmeter, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 1 and 10, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-1.0 volt to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror motor assembly. If voltage is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 4 leads of voltmeter and battery voltage from power mirror motor connector terminals (leave dry cell assembly connected). Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 13 and negative lead to terminal No. 14.
  4. Apply battery voltage and ground between terminals No. 9 and 10, reversing polarity as necessary to move mirror in both directions. As mirror moves, voltage should gradually and smoothly change from 0-1.0 volt to 2.8-5.0 volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace power mirror motor assembly.
