PROCEDURE
- INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK HINT: Before performing this inspection, check that there are no coolant leaks from any parts other than the engine water pump assembly. If there are leaks, inspect those areas first. Perform this inspection when the engine is cold. Visually inspect the engine compartment for the following conditions: There is a large amount of engine coolant in the engine compartment or on the underside of the hood near the V-ribbed belt. Engine coolant is dripping from around the engine water pump assembly. The engine coolant level in the radiator reserve tank assembly is below the low line and there are traces of leakage around the engine water pump assembly. If any of the above conditions exist, replace the engine water pump assembly. If none of the above conditions exist, perform the following inspection (inspection of the area around the engine water pump assembly). Remove the V-ribbed belt. Refer to «REMOVAL [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665703-S25978130992014102400000) Remove the water pump pulley. See step 10 HINT: Move the water pump pulley so that the drain plug can be reached. Inspect the area around the engine water pump assembly. HINT: Check for deposits around the drain plug of the engine water pump assembly. Press a piece of paper towel against the drain plug and check that the paper towel is not wet and that there are no deposits on the lip of the drain plug. *a Drain Plug If the paper towel is wet, replace the engine water pump assembly. If the paper towel is not wet, thoroughly clean the area around the engine water pump assembly. Install the water pump pulley. See step 4
- INSPECT ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Turn the water pump pulley and check that the bearing of the engine water pump assembly moves smoothly and quietly. If necessary, replace the engine water pump assembly. Install the V-ribbed belt. Refer to «INSTALLATION [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665703-S21534369332014102400000)

- REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY Using SST, hold the water pump pulley. SST: 09960-10010 09962-01000 09963-00700 Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.

- REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt, No. 2 idler pulley cover plate and No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly.
- REMOVE ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Remove the 16 bolts, engine water pump assembly and water pump gasket.
- INSTALL ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Install a new water pump gasket and the engine water pump assembly with the 16 bolts. Bolt A Bolt B Bolt C Bolt A Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) Bolt B and C Torque: 11 N*m (112 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that there is no oil on the threads of the bolts (A). Be sure to replace the 2 bolts (C) with new ones or reuse them after applying adhesive. Adhesive Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344 or equivalent Standard Length Item Length Bolt A 55 mm (2.17 in.) Bolt B, C 22 mm (0.87 in.)
- INSTALL NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly and No. 2 idler pulley cover plate with the bolt. Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL WATER INLET Install a new No. 1 water inlet housing gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring. Install the water inlet with the 4 bolts and nut. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Be careful not to allow the No. 1 water inlet housing gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring to get caught between the parts. Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose to the water inlet and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the No. 3 water by-pass hose to the water inlet and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the No. 4 water by-pass hose to the water inlet and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the No. 6 water by-pass hose to the water inlet and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the radiator reserve tank hose to the water inlet and slide the clip to secure it.
- INSTALL WATER PUMP PULLEY Temporarily install the water pump pulley with the 4 bolts. Using SST, hold the water pump pulley and tighten the 4 bolts. SST: 09960-10010 09962-01000 09963-00700 Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

- INSPECT WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY HINT: The valve opening temperature is inscribed on the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Immerse the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly in water, and then gradually heat the water. Check that the valve of the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly opens at the specified temperature. Standard Valve Opening Temperature 80 to 84°C (176 to 183°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Check the valve lift. *a Valve Lift Standard Valve Lift 8.0 mm (0.315 in.) or more at 95°C (203°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly. Check that the valve is fully closed when the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly is at low temperatures (below 77°C (171°F)). If it is not fully closed, replace the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly.
- INSTALL WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket and the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly with the 3 nuts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

- INSPECT COOLING FAN ECU Check and ensure the following conditions: The engine switch is off. The engine coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F). The battery voltage is between 11 to 14 V. The A/C switch is off. Connect the pickup of a clamp-on ammeter around one of the two wires for the cooling fan motor. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and wait for approximately 10 seconds. Check that the fan is not operating. Start the engine. Check that the fan is not operating with the engine idling. HINT: Make sure that the engine coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F). Turn the A/C switch off. Check that the fan operates when the A/C switch is turned on. - CHECK RADIATOR CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY Measure the valve opening pressure. If there are water stains or foreign matter on the rubber packing (1), (2) or (3), clean the part(s) with water and finger scouring. Check that the rubber packings (1), (2) and (3) are not deformed, cracked or swollen. Check that the rubber packings (3) and (4) are not stuck together. Apply engine coolant to the rubber packings (2) and (3) before using the radiator cap tester. When using the radiator cap tester, tilt it upward 30° or more. - DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE Disengage the clamp and disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the radiator hose clamp. Remove the radiator hose clamp from the fan shroud assembly. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the radiator assembly.
- DISCONNECT ENGINE ROOM MAIN WIRE Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector. Disengage the 7 clamps and disconnect the engine room main wire from the upper radiator support sub-assembly.
- REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the 2 horn connectors. Disengage the 6 clamps and disconnect the wire harness from the upper radiator support sub-assembly. Remove the 5 bolts and upper radiator support sub-assembly.
- SEPARATE COOLER CONDENSER ASSEMBLY Disengage the 2 claws. Disengage the 2 guides and separate the cooler condenser assembly from the radiator assembly. NOTE: Do not damage the cooler condenser assembly or radiator assembly when removing the cooler condenser assembly.
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM ECU OUTLET DUCT Remove the engine room ECU outlet duct from the fan shroud assembly.
- REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Remove the radiator assembly with the fan shroud assembly from the vehicle. NOTE: Do not apply excessive force to the condenser assembly or pipe when removing the radiator assembly. Disengage the 3 claws. Disengage the 3 guides and remove the fan shroud assembly from the radiator assembly. NOTE: Do not damage the radiator assembly when removing the fan shroud assembly.
- REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT CUSHION Remove the 2 radiator support cushions from the radiator assembly.
- REMOVE LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT Remove the 2 lower radiator supports from the radiator assembly.
- INSTALL LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT Install the 2 lower radiator supports to the radiator assembly.
- INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT CUSHION Install the 2 radiator support cushions to the radiator assembly.
- INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Engage the 3 guides. Engage the 3 claws and install the fan shroud assembly to the radiator assembly. NOTE: Do not damage the radiator assembly when installing the fan shroud assembly. Install the radiator assembly with the fan assembly to the vehicle. NOTE: Do not apply excessive force to the condenser assembly or pipe when installing the radiator assembly.
- INSTALL ENGINE ROOM ECU OUTLET DUCT Install the engine room ECU outlet duct to the fan shroud assembly.
- CONNECT COOLER CONDENSER ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 guides. Engage the 2 claws and connect the cooler condenser assembly to the radiator assembly. NOTE: Do not damage the cooler condenser assembly or radiator assembly when installing the cooler condenser assembly.
- INSTALL UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the upper radiator support sub-assembly with the 5 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Engage the 6 clamps and connect the wire harness to the upper radiator support sub-assembly. Connect the 2 horn connectors.
- CONNECT ENGINE ROOM MAIN WIRE Connect the cooling fan ECU connector. Engage the 7 clamps and connect the engine room main wire from the upper radiator support sub-assembly.
- CONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE Connect the No. 2 radiator hose to the radiator assembly and slide the clip to secure it. Install a new radiator hose clamp to the fan shroud assembly. Engage the clamp and connect the No. 2 radiator hose to the radiator hose clamp.
- INSTALL NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE Install the No. 1 radiator hose to the radiator assembly and water inlet and slide the 2 clips to secure them.
- INSTALL RADIATOR RESERVE TANK ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 claws and install the radiator reserve tank assembly to the fan shroud assembly. Connect the clamp and wire harness to the radiator reserve tank assembly. Connect the radiator reserve tank hose to the water inlet and slide the clip to secure it.
- INSTALL HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 3»(ref-665779-S31273357462014102400000)
- CONNECT HOOD LOCK CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 clamps and connect the hood lock control cable assembly to the upper radiator support sub-assembly.
- INSTALL HOOD LOCK RELEASE LEVER PROTECTOR Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 4»(ref-665779-S31273357462014102400000)
- INSTALL INLET NO. 1 AIR CLEANER Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 74»(ref-665703-S03876486602014102400000)
- ADD ENGINE COOLANT See step 5
- INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 1»(ref-665770-S12066795872014102400000)
- INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
- INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 104»(ref-665703-S03876486602014102400000)
- INSTALL MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR ASSEMBLY (w/ Dynamic Radar Cruise Control System) Refer to «INSTALLATION [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665556-S33848085632014102400000)
- INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 3»(ref-665772-S23921011662014102400000)
- INSPECT FAN RELAY Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 5 Battery voltage not applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kohms or higher 3 - 5 Battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the fan relay.
