ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2012 - ]

  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream main switch ON. Start and warm up the engine. Idle the engine. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test. Specified condition Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Control the VVT Linear (Bank1) Control VVT (bank 1) -128 to 127 % This valve added to present OCV control duty 100 %: Maximum advance -100 %: Maximum retard Engine stall or rough idle when VVT actuator operated by 100 %.   20. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Exhaust Side) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve.
  21. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Intake Side) Remove the bolt and V-bank cover bracket. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve.
  22. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Exhaust Side) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve.
  23. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Intake Side) Disconnect the 2 wire harness cramps from the bracket. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve.

  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance 6.9 to 7.9 ohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 1 and negative (-) lead to terminal 2, and check the movement of the valve. OK Condition Specified Condition Battery positive (+) voltage is applied Valve moves in left arrow direction shown in illustration Battery positive (+) voltage is cut off Valve moves in right arrow direction shown in illustration If result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve. NOTE: If the valve cannot return properly because of foreign matter, a small pressure leak in the advanced direction may occur and a DTC may be output.

  1. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Intake Side) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector. Install the bracket with the 2 bolts. Bolt A Torque: 10 N*m (104 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Bolt B Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf) Connect the 2 wire harness clamps to the bracket.
  2. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 2 Exhaust Side) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
  3. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Intake Side) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector. Install the V-bank cover bracket with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)
  4. INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE (for Bank 1 Exhaust Side) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or jumped when installing the oil control valve. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

  1. CHECK THROTTLE BODY Check the throttle control motor operating sounds. Turn the engine switch on (IG). When pressing the accelerator pedal, check the operating sound of the running motor. Make sure that no friction noises emit from the motor. If friction noise exists, replace the throttle body. Check the throttle position sensor. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream main switch ON. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position and Throttle Sensor Position #2. Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully opened, check that the value of the "Throttle Sensor Position" is within the specification. Standard throttle valve opening percentage 60% or more NOTE: When checking the standard throttle valve opening percentage, the shift lever should be in the N position. If the percentage is less than 60%, replace the throttle body.

  1. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL

  5. DISCONNECT NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE Disconnect the ventilation hose from the cylinder head.
  6. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Disconnect the MAF meter connector. Disconnect the clamp from the air cleaner. Disconnect the VSV hose. Disconnect the 4 clamps. Remove the hose clamp and air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose.
  7. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY Disconnect the throttle motor connector. Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect the throttle body from the intake air surge tank. Disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses from the throttle body. Remove the throttle body and gasket.

  1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 20°C (68°F) 0.3 to 100 ohms 3 (E2) - 5 (VC) 20°C (68°F) 1.2 to 3.2 kohms If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body.

  1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY Install a new gasket to the intake air surge tank. HINT: Align the protrusion of the gasket with the groove on the intake air surge tank. Connect the 2 water by-pass hoses to the throttle body. Install the throttle body with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the throttle motor connector.
  2. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Install the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose with the 4 clamps and hose clamp. HINT: Be sure to install the air cleaner assembly so that the screw part of the hose clamp is as shown in the illustration. Install the VSV hose to the air cleaner hose. Connect the MAF meter connector and clamp to the air cleaner.
  3. CONNECT NO. 2 VENTILATION HOSE Connect the ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover with the clamp.
  4. ADD ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2012 - ] - Step 5»(ref-606461-S16907956802014032500000)

  3. REMOVE ECM COVER Remove the 3 bolts and ECM cover. NOTE: Remove all water on and around the ECM cover. Perform the inspection indoors to avoid rain. Be sure to prevent water intrusion to the ECM (connectors and screw parts).
  4. REMOVE ECM Disconnect the ECM connectors. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector holder. Disconnect the 6 ECM connectors. Remove the 2 nuts and ECM.

Scheme 29: INSTALLATION [08/2012 - ]
  1. INSTALL ECM Install the ECM to the ECM box. NOTE: Install the ECM on the ECM box with the name plate facing the inside of the vehicle. Make sure that there is no foreign matter on the gasket surface of the ECM box. Insert the stud bolt on the vehicle rear side to the ECM first. Make sure that stud bolts are securely installed into the front and rear bolt holes. Install the 2 nuts. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) NOTE: Be sure to first tighten the nut on the vehicle rear. Connect the ECM connectors. Connect the 6 ECM connectors. NOTE: Be sure to securely connect the connector. Connect the connector holder to the ECM box.
  2. INSTALL ECM COVER Install the ECM cover with the 3 bolts. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the wire harness does not get caught between the parts.

  1. INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream main switch ON. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Accelerator Position No. 1 and Accelerator Position No. 2. When depressing or releasing the accelerator pedal, check that the values of the Accelerator Position No. 1 and Accelerator Position No. 2 are within the specification. Accelerator Position No. 1 standard voltage Condition Specified Condition Accelerator pedal is released 0.5 to 1.1 V Accelerator pedal is depressed 2.6 to 4.5 V Accelerator Position No. 2 standard voltage Condition Specified Condition Accelerator pedal is released 1.2 to 2.0 V Accelerator pedal is depressed 3.4 to 5.0 V If the result is not as specified, check the accelerator pedal, wire harness or ECM.

Scheme 31: REMOVAL [08/2012 - ]
  1. REMOVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL Disconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector. Remove the 2 bolts and accelerator pedal. NOTE: Avoid physical shock to the accelerator pedal. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal assembly.

Note. Perform the MAF meter inspection according to the procedures below. Only replace the MAF meter when both the LONG FT#1 value and MAF value in the DATA LIST (with the engine stopped) are not within the normal operating range.

  1. INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER Read the value using Techstream (MAF). NOTE: Turn off the engine. Perform the inspection with the vehicle indoors and on a level surface. Perform the inspection of the MAF meter while it is installed to the air cleaner case (installed to the vehicle). During the test, do not use the exhaust air duct to perform suction on the exhaust pipe. Turn the engine switch on (ACC). Turn the engine switch on (IG) (do not run the engine). Turn the Techstream ON. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAF. Wait 30 seconds, and read the values on the Techstream. Standard condition Less than 0.52 g/sec. If the result is not as specified, replace the MAF meter. If the result is within the specified range, inspect the cause of the extremely rich or lean air fuel ratio.
