REPLACEMENT

Note. When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

  1. PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System) NOTE: After the power switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 2»(ref-398219-S28362000682011051600000)
  3. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 3»(ref-398212-S03672311542011051600000)
  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
  5. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front disc brake caliper assembly. NOTE: Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the front disc brake caliper assembly from hanging down by the flexible hose.
  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 16»(ref-398221-S33784855472011051600000)
  7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB BOLT Temporarily install 2 nuts to the front axle hub bolts as shown in the illustration. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Nut Recommended service nut Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.) Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.) NOTE: Install the nuts to prevent damage to the hub bolts. Using SST and a screwdriver or an equivalent tool to hold the front axle hub sub-assembly, remove the front axle hub bolt. SST: 09628-10011 NOTE: Do not damage the threads of the front axle hub bolts.
  8. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB BOLT Install a washer and nut to a new front axle hub bolt as shown in the illustration. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Nut *b Washer Recommended service nut Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.) Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.) HINT: Recommended thickness of the washer is 5 mm (0.197 in.) or more. Using a screwdriver or an equivalent tool to hold the front axle, install the hub bolt by tightening the nut. NOTE: Install the nuts to prevent damage to the front axle hub bolts. Do not damage the threads of the front axle hub bolts. Remove the 3 nuts and washer from the 3 front axle hub bolts.
  9. INSTALL FRONT DISC . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-398221-S22413988682011051600000)
  10. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Install the front disc brake caliper assembly to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts. Torque: 107 N*m (1089 kgf*cm, 79 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Do not twist the brake hose when installing the front disc brake caliper assembly.
  11. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
  12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and close the front luggage compartment trim cover. Connect the reservoir level switch connector. Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-398097-S18517405762011051600000) .
  13. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 3»(ref-398219-S33566720602011051600000)

  3. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 3»(ref-398212-S03672311542011051600000)
  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
  5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 9»(ref-398256-S30923904202011051600000)
  6. SEPARATE FRONT SPEED SENSOR Remove the bolt and clamp, and separate the front speed sensor wire. NOTE: Be sure to separate the front speed sensor from the front shock absorber with coil spring completely. Remove the bolt and separate the front speed sensor from the steering knuckle. NOTE: Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the sensor tip. Be careful not to damage the front speed sensor. Clean the speed sensor installation hole and the contact surfaces every time the speed sensor is removed.
  7. SEPARATE FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE Remove the bolt and separate the front flexible hose from the steering knuckle.
  8. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See step 5
  9. REMOVE FRONT DISC . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 16»(ref-398221-S33784855472011051600000)
  10. SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 14»(ref-398255-S11225442242011051600000)
  11. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 1 LOWER SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, and separate the front No. 1 lower suspension arm sub-assembly from the front lower ball joint.
  12. SEPARATE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the front drive shaft assembly and front axle hub sub-assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Matchmark Using a plastic hammer, separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly. If it is difficult to separate, tap the end of the front drive shaft assembly using a brass bar and a hammer. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor.
  13. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and front axle assembly. NOTE: When removing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating. Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor.
  14. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY Secure the front axle assembly between aluminium plates in a vise. NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise. Remove the 4 bolts, front axle hub sub-assembly and front disc brake dust cover. NOTE: Do not drop the front axle hub sub-assembly.

  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY Secure the steering knuckle between aluminium plates in a vise. NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise. Install the front axle hub sub-assembly and front disc brake dust cover with the 4 bolts. Torque: 96 N*m (979 kgf*cm, 71 ft.*lbf)
  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY Install the front axle assembly to the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Torque: 240 N*m (2447 kgf*cm, 177 ft.*lbf) NOTE: When installing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.
  3. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks and install the front drive shaft assembly to the front axle hub sub-assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Matchmark
  4. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 LOWER SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the front No. 1 lower suspension arm sub-assembly to the front lower ball joint with the bolt and 2 nuts. Torque: 92 N*m (938 kgf*cm, 68 ft.*lbf)
  5. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 13»(ref-398255-S38291903472011051600000)
  6. INSTALL FRONT DISC . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-398221-S22413988682011051600000)
  7. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See step 10
  8. TEMPORARILY INSTALL FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT Clean the threaded parts on the front drive shaft assembly and front axle shaft nut using a non-residue solvent. NOTE: Be sure to perform this work for a new front drive shaft assembly. Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign matter. Using a socket wrench, install a new front axle hub shaft nut. Torque: 216 N*m (2203 kgf*cm, 159 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps. HINT: Keep depressing the brake pedal to prevent the front drive shaft from rotating.
  9. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See step 5

  11. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS See step 7

  14. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See step 10
  15. INSTALL FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE Install the front flexible hose to the steering knuckle with the bolt. Torque: 19 N*m (192 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf)
  16. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR Install the front speed sensor wire to the front shock absorber with the bolt and clamp. Torque: 19 N*m (192 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Do not twist the front speed sensor when installing it. HINT: Install the font flexible hose first and then the speed sensor harness bracket. Install the front speed sensor to the steering knuckle with the bolt. Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) NOTE: Do not twist the front speed sensor when installing it.
  17. STAKE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT Using a chisel and hammer, stake the front axle shaft nut.
  18. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
  19. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and close the front luggage compartment trim cover. Connect the reservoir level switch connector. Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-398097-S18517405762011051600000) .

  10. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY Remove the 4 bolts and the rear axle hub and bearing assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.

  1. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY Clean the installation surfaces of the rear axle hub and bearing assembly and parking brake assembly. Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: 90 N*m (918 kgf*cm, 66 ft.*lbf)
  2. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS See step 8
  3. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT See step 9
  4. INSTALL REAR DISC . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-398222-S29799490762011051600000)
  5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts. Torque: 78 N*m (799 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf) Install the rear flexible hose to the No. 2 flexible hose bracket with the bolt. Torque: 19 N*m (192 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf)
  6. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 6»(ref-398283-S32629862552011051600000)
  7. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION ARM COVER . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 14»(ref-398258-S20342142182011051600000)
  8. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

Remove the nut, and separate the parking brake assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly. NOTE: Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the parking brake assembly from hanging down by the parking brake cable.
  15. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 5»(ref-398258-S10231511732011051600000)
  16. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY Loosen the 2 bolts (A), bolt (B) and bolt (C). TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION Bolt (A) Bolt (B) Bolt (C) NOTE: Since the stopper nuts are used, turn the bolts. Do not remove the bolts. Using a jack and wooden block, jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly to replicate standard vehicle height conditions. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Jack *b Wooden Block WARNING: Do not jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly too high as the vehicle may fall. Remove the 2 bolts (A), and separate the rear trailing arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.   1. INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY Hold the rear axle carrier sub-assembly between aluminium plates in a vise. NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise. Using a brass bar and a hammer, push out the bushing until it is positioned as shown in the illustration. HINT: Pushing out the bushing makes it easier to install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly. Using a jack and wooden block, jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly to replicate standard vehicle height conditions. WARNING: Do not jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly too high as the vehicle may fall. Temporarily install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly to the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly with the bolt (C) and nut. Since the stopper nut is used, turn the bolt. Temporarily install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly and No. 2 flexible hose bracket to the rear upper control arm assembly with the bolt (B) and nut. NOTE: Insert the bolt with the threaded end facing the rear of the vehicle. Since the stopper nut is used, turn the bolt. Install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly to the rear trailing arm assembly with the 2 bolts (A). Torque: 200 N*m (2039 kgf*cm, 148 ft.*lbf) Fully tighten the bolt (B) and bolt (C). Torque: 90 N*m (918 kgf*cm, 66 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Since the stopper nuts are used, turn the bolts. Slowly lower the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly.
  2. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 8»(ref-398258-S20342142182011051600000)
  3. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY Clean the installation surfaces of the parking brake assembly and rear axle carrier sub-assembly. Temporarily tighten the parking brake assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the nut. NOTE: Do not twist the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly when installing the parking brake assembly. HINT: Fully tighten the nut after installing the rear axle hub and bearing assembly. Install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly with the 3 bolts. Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the 3 guides of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly are inserted.
  4. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY See step 1
  5. FULLY TIGHTEN PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY Fully tighten the nut. Torque: 140 N*m (1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf)
  6. INSTALL REAR DISC . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-398222-S29799490762011051600000)
  7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY See step 5

  18. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and close the front luggage compartment trim cover. Connect the reservoir level switch connector. Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-398097-S18517405762011051600000) .
