HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

- CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS CHECK In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred. Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases. The following 5 items are important points in the problem analysis: What Vehicle model, system name When Date, time, occurrence frequency Where Road conditions Under what conditions? Driving conditions, weather conditions How did it happen? Problem symptoms NEXT: Go to next step
- INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Measure the battery voltage. Standard voltage 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step. NEXT: Go to next step
- INSPECT COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (BEAN) Use the Techstream to check if the Multiplex Communication System (MPX) is functioning normally. - CHECK WINDOW LOCK SWITCH Check that the front passenger side power window switch and rear window switches are disabled when the window lock switch of the power window master switch is pressed. - CHECK POWER WINDOW OPERATION FUNCTION AFTER ENGINE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF Check that all the power windows can be operated with the power window master switch after the engine switch is turned off. Check that the key-off operation function does not operate after the driver door or front passenger door is opened. Check that all the power windows cannot be operated after more than approximately 45 seconds have elapsed since the engine switch was turned off.
- CHECK TRANSMITTER-LINKED FUNCTION Check that all power windows operate as follows when operating the transmitter. OK Condition Transmitter Operation Power Window No key is inside vehicle, and all doors are closed and locked UNLOCK switch pressed for more than 3.0 seconds DOWN (Opens) No key is inside vehicle, and all doors are closed and locked UNLOCK switch released STOP
- CHECK KEY-LINKED FUNCTION USING DRIVER SIDE DOOR KEY CYLINDER Check that all power windows operate as follows. OK Condition Door Key Cylinder Operation Power Window No key is inside vehicle, and all doors are closed Turned (LOCK) for more than 2.3 seconds UP (Closes) No key is inside vehicle, and all doors are closed Returned to neutral position STOP No key is inside vehicle, and all doors are closed Turned (UNLOCK) for more than 2.3 seconds DOWN (Opens) No key is inside vehicle, and all doors are closed Returned to neutral position STOP
- CHECK JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION Check the basic function. WARNING: The jam protection function is operative during both the AUTO UP and MANUAL UP operation. Do not put your fingers between the door frame and door glass to check functions. Also, prevent any part of your body from being caught during inspection. HINT: The jam protection function is operative during both the AUTO UP and MANUAL UP operation while the engine is running or the engine switch on (IG), and also after the key is removed from the door key cylinder. Fully open the window. Place a check jig measuring 4 to 10 mm (0.16 to 0.40 in.) thick near the window fully closed position. Operate the AUTO UP or MANUAL UP function to check that the power window goes down before the book is caught between the window and door frame, and stops when the opening reaches approximately 200 mm (7.87 in.). HINT: The power window moves down approximately 50 mm (1.97 in.). However, when the opening does not reach 200 mm (7.87 in.), the power window continues to go down until the opening reaches 200 mm (7.87 in.) or until approximately 5 seconds have elapsed. While the power window is moving down, check that the door glass cannot be raised when the power window switch is used.
- CHECK POWER WINDOW SWITCH LED ILLUMINATION Check the LED illumination (power window master switch). Check that the LED located on the power window switch illuminates when the engine switch on (IG). Check the LED illumination (power window switch). Check that the LED located on the power window switch illuminates when the engine switch on (IG).

- DESCRIPTION The power window control system data can be read from the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle. When the system seems to be malfunctioning, use the Techstream to check for malfunctions and perform repairs.
- CHECK DLC3 The ECU uses ISO 15765-4 for communication. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 15765-4 format. If the display indicates that a communication error has occurred, there is a problem either with the vehicle or with the Techstream. HINT: If communication is normal when the Techstream is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle. If communication is still not possible when the Techstream is connected to another vehicle, the problem may be in the Techstream itself. Consult the Service Department listed in the Techstream's instruction manual.
- INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Measure the battery voltage. Standard voltage 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step.
DTC CHECK / CLEAR
- CHECK DTC Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Check the DTC(s).
- CLEAR DTC Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Clear the DTCs. Check that "DTCs are cleared" is displayed. NOTE: If any DTCs are output, troubleshoot those DTCs again.
DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST
- READ DATA LIST HINT: Using the Techstream's Data List allows switch, sensor, actuator and other item values to be read without removing any parts. Reading the Data List early in troubleshooting is one way to save time. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream ON. - ACTIVE TEST HINT: Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
