INSTALLATION

Note. Avoid physical shock to the accelerator pedal. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal assembly.

  1. INSTALL ACCELERATOR PEDAL Install the accelerator pedal with the 2 bolts. Torque: 5.0 N*m ( 51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Connect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
  2. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
  3. PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform initialization Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-382578-S40254115562011012800000) . NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Intake Side of Bank 2) Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m ( 102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.
  3. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m ( 102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.

Scheme 43: INSPECTION
  1. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance Temperature Specified Condition Cold 1630 to 2740 ohms Hot 2065 to 3225 ohms NOTE: In the table above, the terms "cold" and "hot" refer to the temperature of the coils. "Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). "Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F). If the resistance is not as specified, replace the sensor.

  1. INSTALL CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Apply a coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the sensor. Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m ( 102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.

Scheme 51: INSPECTION
  1. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Partially soak the sensor in water and warm up the water. Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance Condition Specified Condition Approx. 20°C (68°F) 2.32 to 2.59 kohms Approx. 80°C (176°F) 0.310 to 0.326 kohms NOTE: When checking the sensor in water, keep the terminals dry. After the check, wipe the sensor dry. If the result is not as specified, replace the sensor.
  1. INSTALL ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Install a new gasket to the sensor. Install the sensor. Torque: 20 N*m ( 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.

REMOVAL

WARNINGDo not allow fuel to spray when removing the pipe between the high pressure side fuel pump and the fuel injectors. The fuel in the pipe is highly pressurized.

Scheme 60: INSPECTION
  1. INSPECT KNOCK SENSOR Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance 120 to 280 kohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the sensor.

  1. INSTALL KNOCK SENSOR Install the 2 knock sensors so that they are horizontal as shown in the illustration. Then install the 2 bolts. Torque: 20 N*m ( 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) HINT: It is acceptable for the sensor to be tilted +10 to -5°. The bank 1 connector is black and the bank 2 connector is gray. Connect the 2 knock sensor connectors.

If there is a malfunction in the circuit of the integration relay, replace the integration relay. The internal circuit of the integration relay is as shown in the illustration. Inspect the integration relay using the following procedures. Measure the resistance of the C/OPN relay. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 2A-8 and negative (-) lead to terminal 2B-3. Check the resistance between the terminals when battery voltage is applied between the terminals.
