REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGVehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

The body No. 1 ECU is attached to the passenger side junction block located in the right kick panel. Removal and installation procedures are not available from manufacturer.

The body No. 2 ECU is attached to the driver side junction block located in the left kick panel. Removal and installation procedures are not available from manufacturer.

Door ECUs are mounted on bottom side of driver and front passenger power window/door lock switches. Using a screwdriver with tape applied to tip, gently pry at identified points of power window/door lock switch and release retainers. Disconnect electrical connector and remove switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal

Remove the 3 retainers and ECM cover. Remove the 2 nuts. (Scheme 9) Disconnect the connectors and remove the ECM.

Installation

Connect the connectors and install the ECM with 2 nuts. Tighten to 49 INCH lbs. (5.5 N.m). Install the ECM cover with the 3 retainers.

The gateway ECU is located behind the left side of the instrument panel. Removal and installation procedures are not available from manufacturer.
