DTC P1126: ELECTROMAGNETIC CLUTCH CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION Lexus GS II

CAUTIONIf ECM replacement is instructed in following testing, always ensure ECM harness connector and ground circuit are okay. If either are suspect, repair and repeat testing to confirm ECM malfunction.

Circuit Description

Magnetic clutch is mounted between throttle control motor and throttle valve, and engages throttle control motor to throttle valve. If the electric throttle control system has a malfunction, the magnetic clutch separates the throttle control motor from throttle valve. Magnetic clutch and throttle control motor are one unit and must be replaced together. If DTC P1126 is set, ECM shuts down power to throttle control motor and electromagnetic clutch.

DTC P1126 is set when ECM continuously detects magnetic clutch current of 1.4 amps or more, or .4 amp or less for .8 second. DTC P1126 is also set when ECM continuously detects magnetic clutch current of one amp or more, or .8 amp or less for 1.5 seconds. Possible causes are

  1. Open or short in magnetic clutch circuit
  2. Magnetic clutch.
  3. ECM.
