Replacement
| WARNING | To avoid the danger of being burned, do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot, as fluid and steam can be blown out under pressure. |
- Remove radiator cap.
- Loosen the 2 drain plugs (for the engine and radiator), and drain the coolant. see scheme 2
- Close the drain plug.
- Slowly fill the system with coolant. Use a good brand of ethylene-glycol base coolant and mix according to the manufacturers directions. Using coolant which includes more than 50% ethylene-glycol (but not more than 70%) is recommended. The coolant capacity with a heater is 8.1 qts. (7.7 liters).
- Install the radiator cap. Start the engine, and open the heater water valve. Maintain the engine speed at 2000-2500 RPM, and warm up engine.
- Stop the engine, and wait until the coolant cools down.
- Refill the reservoir with coolant until it reaches the FULL line.

- Remove the radiator cap. Loosen the radiator drain plug (on the left side of the radiator lower tank) and engine drain plug (on the cylinder block), and drain the coolant. see scheme 3 Close the 3 drain plugs.
- Slowly fill the system with coolant. Use a good brand of ethylene-glycol base coolant and mix it according to the manufacturers directions (Toyota Long Life Antifreeze Coolant or equivalent). Using coolant which includes more than 50% ethylene-glycol (but not more than 70%) is recommended. The coolant system capacity is 9.8 qts. (9.3 liters).
- Install the radiator cap. Start the engine, and open the heater water valve. Maintain the engine speed at 2000-2500 RPM, and warm up engine.
- Stop engine and wit for coolant to cool down.
- Refill the radiator reservoir with coolant until it reaches the FULL line.
- Check for engine coolant leaks.
