CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
  3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
  4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
  6. Start the engine.
  7. Idle the engine for 10 seconds or more [A].
  8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes [B].
  9. Read the pending DTCs. HINT: If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
  10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
  11. Input the DTC: P0365, P0367, P0368, P0390, P0392 or P0393.
  12. Check the DTC judgment result. PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (POWER SOURCE OF VVT SENSOR (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT)) Disconnect the VVT sensor (for exhaust camshaft) connector. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.   2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VVT SENSOR (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT) - ECM) Disconnect the VVT sensor (for exhaust camshaft) connector. Disconnect the ECM connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.   5. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE TIMING CHAIN AND JUMPED TEETH). Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 4»(ref-598601-S30113800672014021400000) NG --> See step 13 OK: Go to next step
  6. REPLACE VVT SENSOR (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT) Replace the VVT sensor (for exhaust camshaft). Refer to «REMOVAL [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598604-S30434636952014021400000) . NEXT: Go to next step
  7. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0365, P0367, P0368, P0390, P0392 OR P0393) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598472-S02009234142014021400000) . Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes. Read the DTCs. Scheme 202: CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
  3. Turn the Techstream on.
  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
  5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  6. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
  7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Monitor / Current Monitor.
  8. Check that Catalyst Efficiency / Current is Incomplete.
  9. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher [A].
  10. Drive the vehicle at approximately 60 km/h (37 mph) for 10 minutes or more [B]. WARNING: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws. HINT: Drive the vehicle while keeping the engine load as constant as possible.
  11. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds [C].
  12. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
  13. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher [D].
  14. Drive the vehicle at approximately 60 km/h (37 mph) for 10 minutes or more [E]. WARNING: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws. HINT: Drive the vehicle while keeping the engine load as constant as possible. The monitor item change to Complete as the Catalyst Efficiency monitor operates.
  15. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes [F].
  16. Check if any DTCs (pending DTCs) are stored. HINT: If the monitor item does not change to Complete, and no pending DTCs are stored, perform the following procedure.
  17. Drive the vehicle at a speed between 75 and 100 km/h (47 and 62 mph) for 10 minutes or more [G]. WARNING: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws. HINT: Drive the vehicle while keeping the engine load as constant as possible. The monitor item will change to Complete as the Catalyst Efficiency monitor operates.
  18. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
  19. Check if any DTCs (pending DTCs) are stored. HINT: If the monitor item does not change to Complete, and no pending DTCs are stored, extend the driving time.
  20. If no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598472-S02009234142014021400000) . HINT: If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.
  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0420 AND/OR P0430) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes. Read the DTCs. RESULT Result Proceed to DTC P0420 and/or P0430 are output A DTC P0420 and/or P0430 and other DTCs are output B HINT: If any DTCs other than P0420 and/or P0430 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.   2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE INJECTION VOLUME FOR A/F SENSOR) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine and warm it up. Turn the Techstream on. Run the engine at an engine speed of 2500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor / Gas AF Control / AFS Voltage B1S1 and O2S B1S2 or AFS Voltage B2S1 and O2S B2S2. Perform the Active Test operation with the engine idling (press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the fuel injection volume). Monitor the voltage outputs of the air fuel ratio sensor and heated oxygen sensor (AFS Voltage B1S1 and O2S B1S2 or AFS Voltage B2S1 and O2S B2S2) displayed on the Techstream. HINT: The Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor operation lowers the fuel injection volume by 12.5% or increases the injection volume by 12.5%. Each sensor reacts in accordance with increases and decreases in the fuel injection volume. The air fuel ratio sensor has an output delay of a few seconds and the heated oxygen sensor has a maximum output delay of approximately 20 seconds. If the sensor output voltage does not change (almost no reaction) while performing the Active Test, the sensor may be malfunctioning.   1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

  4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].
  6. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher with all the accessories switched off [B].

  3. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK Allow the engine to idle and then rev the engine. Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor. If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair them and proceed to "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern". If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern". HINT: If no exhaust gas leaks are present, there may be a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit. If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.
