Starting: Removal & Installation Lexus ES XV40

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY Install the starter assembly with the 2 bolts. Torque: 37 N*m (380 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf) Connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut. Then, attach the terminal cap. Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf) Connect the terminal 50 connector to the starter assembly.
2. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET (See INSTALLATION )
3. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
4. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
5. INSTALL NO. 2 AIR CLEANER INLET (See INSTALLATION )
6. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
7. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH (See INSTALLATION )
8. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL (See INSTALLATION )
9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (See INSTALLATION )
10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform initialization procedure (See INITIALIZATION ). NOTE: Some vehicle systems require initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal.

1. INSPECT STARTER RELAY ASSEMBLY Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between each terminal. Standard resistance RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION Tester Connection Specified Condition 3 - 5 10 kohms or higher Below 1 ohms (when battery voltage is applied to terminals 1 and 2) If the result is not as specified, replace the starter relay assembly.

1. INSPECT STARTER CUT RELAY Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between each terminal. Standard resistance RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION Tester Connection Specified Condition 3 - 5 10 kohms or higher Below 1 ohms (when battery voltage is applied to terminals 1 and 2) If the result is not as specified, replace the starter cut relay.
