- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: Removing the steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break. Remove the 2 screws. Push the right and left sides of the steering column cover (lower side) to disengage the 4 claws. Insert fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the steering column cover (lower side) to disengage the 2 claws and remove the steering column cover (lower side). HINT: Spread the claws to disengage them. Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides from the steering column cover (upper side). Disengage the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover (upper side).
- REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY NOTE: Do not replace the spiral cable with the battery connected and the power switch on (IG). Do not rotate the spiral cable without the steering wheel with the battery connected and the power switch on (IG). Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor. Do not remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly. Using pliers, expand the clamp. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Clamp *2 Claw While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

- REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET Turn back the floor carpet. Remove the 2 clips and column hole cover silencer sheet.
- SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering intermediate shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Matchmark Remove the bolt. Separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering intermediate shaft.
- REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Lock of Lock Lever *2 Lock Lever HINT: As shown in the illustration, pull out the lock of the lock lever and turn the lock lever to disconnect the connector. Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps. Disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and steering post assembly.
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Matchmark Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

- INSPECT PRELOAD Secure the steering column assembly in a vice using aluminum plates and a piece of cloth. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Wooden Block *b Piece of Cloth NOTE: Do not overtighten the vice, as the steering column assembly may become deformed. Support the steering column assembly with a wooden block or similar item to ensure that it does not fall. Using SST, turn the main shaft and measure the preload. SST: 09616-00011 Preload Torque: 0.91 to 1.45 N*m (10 to 14 kgf*cm, 8 to 12 in.*lbf) If the preload is not as specified, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.
- INSPECT STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Inspect the bushings. Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Bushing If the 2 bushings are installed improperly, replace the steering column assembly with a new one. Check the 2 bushings for deformation and damage. If the bushings are deformed or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one. Inspect the capsules. Check that the 2 capsules are securely installed to the steering column assembly as shown in the illustration. Standard Dimension A B 2 mm (0.0787 in.) 17 mm (0.669 in.) TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Capsule If the capsules are not positioned as specified, replace the steering column assembly with a new one. Check the 2 capsules for deformation and damage. If either of the capsules is deformed, loose, missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

Bolt Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) Nut Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) Engage the wire harness clamps to the steering post assembly. Engage the 2 wire harness clamps. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Lock Lever *2 Lock of Lock Lever HINT: As shown in the illustration, return the lock lever to its original position to connect the connector and securely push in the lock of the lock lever.
- CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering intermediate shaft to connect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly to the steering intermediate shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Matchmark Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET Install the column hole cover silencer sheet with the 2 clips. Install the floor carpet.
- INSTALL NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 claws to install the No. 1 air duct sub-assembly.

Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor. Do not remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable. Using pliers, expand the clamp. While holding the clamp expanded, install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly and engage the claw. Return the clamp to its original position. Connect the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
- INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: If the steering column cover is installed in the incorrect order, it will not be possible to assemble the steering column cover. Engage the 2 claws to install the steering column cover (upper side). Engage the 4 clips and 2 guides to the steering column cover (upper side). Engage the 4 claws to install the steering column cover (lower side). Engage the 2 claws. HINT: Spread the claws and press the area around the claws to engage them. Install the 2 screws. Torque: 2.0 N*m (20 kgf*cm, 18 in.*lbf)
