Drive Cycle Application
Drive Cycle A
- Switch ignition on for 30 seconds
- Ensure Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) less than 60 °C (140 °F)
- Start Engine
- Engine idle for 2 minutes
- Connect a generic scan tool and check for fault codes.
Drive Cycle B
- Switch ignition on for 30 seconds
- Ensure Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) less than 60 °C (140 °F)
- Start Engine
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes
- Perform 2 light accelerations (0 to 35 mph with light pedal pressure)
- Perform 2 medium accelerations (0 to 45 mph with moderate pedal pressure)
- Perform 2 hard acceleration (0 to 55 mph with heavy pedal pressure)
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes
- Connect a generic scan tool with engine still running and check for fault codes.
Drive Cycle C
- Switch ignition on for 30 seconds
- Ensure Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) less than 60 °C (140 °F)
- Start Engine
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes
- Perform 2 light accelerations (0 to 35 mph with light pedal pressure)
- Perform 2 medium accelerations (0 to 45 mph with moderate pedal pressure)
- Perform 2 hard acceleration (0 to 55 mph with heavy pedal pressure)
- Cruise at 60 mph for 8 minutes
- Cruise at 50 mph for 3 minutes
- Allow engine to idle for 3 minutes
- Connect a generic scan tool with engine still running and check for fault codes.
Drive Cycle C+
- This is an extended drive cycle C to enable the internal diagnostic process to be completed which is not alone achieved by drive cycle C.
- Please perform the additional portion after completing drive cycle C (after completing the three minute idle) when prompted by T4/TestBook.
- Perform medium acceleration to 60 mph and hold for 10 seconds
- Remove foot from gas pedal and decelerate to 50 mph.
- Re-perform medium acceleration to 60 mph and hold for 10 seconds
- Again decelerate to 50 mph.
- Repeat this another 13 times until 15 acceleration/decelerations cycles have been completed
- Connect a generic scan tool with engine still running and check for fault codes.
Drive Cycle D
- Switch ignition on for 30 seconds
- Ensure Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) less than 35 °C
- Start Engine
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes
- Perform 2 light accelerations (0 to 35 mph with light pedal pressure)
- Perform 2 medium accelerations (0 to 45 mph with moderate pedal pressure)
- Perform 2 hard acceleration (0 to 55 mph with heavy pedal pressure)
- Cruise at 60 mph for 5 minutes
- Cruise at 50 mph for 5 minutes
- Cruise at 35 mph for 5 minutes
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes
- Connect a generic scan tool and check for fault codes.
Drive Cycle E
- Ensure Fuel Tank is > 1/4 full
- Carry out Drive Cycle A
- Switch off ignition
- Leave vehicle undisturbed for 20 minutes
- Switch on ignition
- Connect a generic scan tool and check for fault codes.
Drive Cycle F (SIEMENS)
Force actuator or function through diagnostic as per EOL test.
Drive Cycle F (BOSCH & DENSO)
- Switch ignition on for 30 seconds.
- Ensure Engine Coolant Temperature is less than 60°C (140°F).
- Start Engine.
- Ensure vehicle is in "High Range".
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes.
- Cruise at 50 mph for 2 minutes.
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes.
- Select "Low Range".
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes.
- Perform 2 light accelerations (0 to 10 mph with light pedal pressure).
- Perform 2 medium accelerations (0 to 20 mph with moderate pedal pressure).
- Cruise at 30 mph for 2 minutes.
- Select "High Range".
- Cruise at 50 mph for 2 minutes.
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes.
- Connect a generic scan tool and check for diagnostic trouble codes.
DRIVE CYCLE G
- Refuel the vehicle.
- Leave the vehicle to stand for at least 5 hours with an ambient temperature of greater than 2°C.
- Drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes.
- Switch the engine off.
- Check that the fuel level is between 15% and 85 % full.
- Connect a generic scan tool and check for fault codes.
CATALYST MONITOR
- Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 75 °C (167 °F).
- With the gear selector in Park or Neutral, hold the engine speed at 2500 rpm for 5 minutes.
- Drive vehicle ensuring that vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h (10 mph) and the engine speed exceeds 1500 rpm.
- Stop the vehicle and check for any temporary DTCs.
MISFIRE MONITOR
- Record flagged DTC(s) and accompanying DTC Monitor freeze frame(s) data.
- Fuel level > 25%.
- Start the engine at a coolant temperature lower than the recorded freeze frame value (from Step 1).
- Drive the vehicle to the recorded freeze frame conditions for 4 minutes. If CHECK ENGINE MIL flashes, lower the engine speed until the flashing stops.
EVAP MONITOR
Evaporative system leak & DMTL module faults
- Ensure that fuel filler cap is secure (minimum three clicks).
- Ensure that fuel level is within the range of 15 > 85%.
- Ensure that normal "high range" gears are selected.
- Ensure that the ambient temperature signal is within the range of 0 > 40 °C (if not, a short drive may be necessary to overcome the filtering used in this signal).
- Ensure that any other DTCs have been rectified (especially if they relate to the purge valve or DMTL heater) and then clear them from the CM memory.
- Leave the vehicle to stand undisturbed for at least 3 hours in an environment with ambient temperature within the range of 0 > 40 °C and atmospheric pressure above 70 kPa.
- Start the engine and allow to idle for at least 10 minutes.
- Switch the engine off and remove the key from the ignition switch.
- Allow the vehicle to stand undisturbed for at least 10 minutes.
- Switch the ignition back on, wait for 10 seconds, check for DTCs.
- If a small leak fault is being investigated this drive cycle will need to be repeated (rough leak check is every drive cycle, small leak check is every other drive cycle).
Purge valve & Purge flow faults
- Ensure that the ambient temperature signal is above 0 °C (if not, a short drive may be necessary to overcome the filtering used in this signal).
- Ensure that any other DTCs have been rectified and then clear them from the CM memory.
- Start the engine and allow to idle for at least 10 minutes.
- Stop / re-start the engine and allow to idle for a further 5 minutes.
- Check for DTCs.
FUEL SYSTEM MONITOR
- Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
- Idle for a minimum of 10 minutes.
OXYGEN SENSOR MONITOR
Upstream (Universal) oxygen sensors
- Engine OFF; cooling fans inoperative > 20 seconds.
- Start engine, coolant< 60°C (140 °F), and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
- Drive vehicle > 1500 rpm for 5 minutes
- Bring vehicle to stop and idle for > 60 seconds
Downstream oxygen sensors
- Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
- Drive the vehicle steadily between 48 - 97 km/h (30 - 60 mph) for 10 minutes.
- Drive the vehicle above 3000 rpm in 3rd gear at a steady speed. Lift foot completely off accelerator and coast for 30 seconds.
Oxygen sensor heaters
- Start engine and bring to normal operating temperature > 82 °C (180 °F).
- Idle engine for 3 minutes.
DENSO PanPAG 1.5 EMS & AJ133 5.0 V8 EMS
LR2 2010-13, LR4 2010-13, Range Rover 2010-13, Range Rover Sport 2010-13 & Range Rover Evoque 2012-13
- Unless stated otherwise, the following generic drive cycle will apply
- Ensure Engine Coolant Temperature is less than 60 °C.
- Start Engine.
- Allow engine to idle for 3 minutes with heated rear window and aircon on.
- Turn off HRW.
- Two light accelerations (0 to 35 mph with light pedal pressure).
- Two medium accelerations (0 to 45 mph with moderate pedal pressure).
- Two hard accelerations (0 to 55 mph with heavy pedal pressure).
- Decelerate to 20 mph without braking.
- Accelerate back to 55 mph with moderate pedal pressure.
- Maintain steady speed of 55 mph for 2 minutes.
- Decelerate gently to stop.
- Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes.
The vehicle must be operated safely and within all prevailing traffic regulations, when being driven according to the requirements of the above procedure.
