  1. Pre test: Check the detachable tow bar locking pin is moving freely without sticking.
  2. Insert the tow bar into the chassis following the owners handbook instruction.
  3. Hold the special tool JLR-501-201 against the tow bar as shown, failure to follow this instruction may result in an incorrect measurement.
  4. Install the special tool as shown.
  5. Check the position of the tow bar release handle against the special tool, and observe the following: If the tow bar release handle points to the red area of the special tool, go to Step 6. If the tow bar release handle points outside of the red area of the special tool, then the tow bar mounting is correct and no further action is required.
  6. Install a new tow bar and check the tow bar mounting following Steps 3 - 5. If the tow bar release handle points to the red area of the special tool, install a new rear crossmember.   1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: «Specifications»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/charging-system/#battery-and-charging-system-general-information__specifications) information.
  3. Disconnect the battery positive cable.
  4. Remove the rear bumper cover. For additional information, refer to: «Rear Bumper Cover»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers) information.
  5. Remove the spare wheel and tire.
  6. Remove both rear body mount dampers.
  7. Remove both rear body mass dampers.
  8. Remove the rear bumper cover lower brackets. Remove the 2 scrivets.
  9. Remove the rear bumper foam pads.
  10. Remove the bracket. Remove the 2 nuts.
  11. Remove the bracket. Remove the bolt.
  12. Using suitable tools, remove and discard the 4 rear body mass damper brackets. Item Description - Mig weld. (Right-hand is symmetrically opposite to left-hand).
  13. Using suitable tools, remove and discard the rear crossmember. Item Description - Mig weld. (Right-hand is symmetrically opposite to left-hand).

  1. Install the rear crossmember. For additional information: Welding. For additional information, refer to: «Body Repairs»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-repairs-general-information) information. Corrosion protection. For additional information, refer to: «Corrosion Protection»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-repairs-corrosion-protection) information. Tolerance checks. For additional information, refer to: «Body And Frame»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-repairs-vehicle-specific-information-and-tolerance-checks) information.
  2. Install the rear bumper foam pads.
  3. Install the rear bumper cover lower brackets. Secure the 2 scrivets.
  4. Install the stiffener inside the chassis.
  5. Install the bracket. Tighten the bolt to 175 Nm.
  6. Remove the bracket. Tighten the M14 nut to 175 Nm. Tighten the M10 nut to 45 Nm
  7. Install both rear body mass dampers. Tighten the M8 bolts to 25 Nm. Tighten the M10 bolts to 40 Nm
  8. Install both rear body mount dampers. Tighten the bolts to 45 Nm.
  9. Install the spare wheel and tire.
  10. Install the rear bumper cover. For additional information, refer to: «Rear Bumper Cover»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers) information.
  11. Connect the battery positive cable. Tighten the battery terminal to 5 Nm.
  12. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: «Specifications»(/land-rover/range-rover-sport/i-2005-2009/remont/charging-system/#battery-and-charging-system-general-information__specifications) information.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the transmission undershield. Remove the 6 bolts.
  3. Release the 3 fuel lines. Release from the 3 clips.
  4. Release the exhaust front mounting.
  5. Release the HO2S wiring harness and bracket from the crossmember. Remove the 2 bolts. Tie the bracket aside.
  6. Remove the transmission support insulator through-bolt. Support the transfer case.
  7. Remove the crossmember. Remove the 4 nuts and bolts.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install the crossmember. Tighten the nuts and bolts to 90 Nm (66 lb.ft).
  2. Install the transmission support insulator through-bolt and tighten to 175 Nm (129 lb.ft).
  3. Attach the HO2S wiring harness and bracket to the crossmember. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  4. Secure the 3 fuel lines. Secure in the clips.
  5. Connect the exhaust front mounting.
  6. Install the transmission undershield. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
