- Release cable adjusting nut from abutment bracket.
- Hold throttle cam in fully closed position.
- Rotate adjusting nut until all slack is taken out of inner cable and nut is in contact with rear face of abutment bracket. Ensure throttle does not open.
- Fit throttle cable adjusting nut in abutment bracket.
- Operate throttle pedal and ensure that full throttle pedal movement is available.
- Fit engine acoustic cover. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-158807-S29684217892005011300000) .

- Pull back cover from hose connector and carefully release connector. WARNING: Depressurize the system before disconnecting any components. Fuel pressure will be present in the system even if the ignition has been switched off for some time.
- Secure connector once pressure has been relieved.
- Fit acoustic cover. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-158807-S29684217892005011300000) .

- Remove schraeder valve cap.

- Connect adapter LRT-19-006 to schraeder valve.

- Fit cap to schraeder valve.
- Up to 03MY: Fit and tighten nut and bolt securing coil.
- Fit acoustic cover. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-158807-S29684217892005011300000) .

- Disconnect fuel feed hose from fuel rail.
- Connect feed hose to fuel rail once pressure has relieved.

- Disconnect fuel inlet hose from fuel rail pipe.
- Connect adaptor LRT-19-013, to pressure gauge LRT-19-004.
- Position pressure gauge LRT-19-004, connect to fuel inlet hose and to fuel rail pipe, securing pressure gauge hose to fuel rail pipe with clip.
- Start engine. Pressure at idle = 3. 4 bar. If pressure below 3. 4 bar suspect the following in order: fuel hoses, filter, regulator and pump.
- Stop engine.
- Release clip and disconnect LRT-19-004 pressure gauge from fuel inlet hose and fuel rail pipe.
- Disconnect adaptor LRT-19-013 from LRT-19-004 pressure gauge.
- Connect fuel inlet hose to fuel rail pipe.
- Fit engine acoustic cover. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-158807-S29684217892005011300000) .

- Up to 03MY: Remove nut and bolt securing coil and position coil aside.
- Connect adaptor LRT-19-006, to pressure gauge LRT-19-004.
- Remove schraeder valve cap.
- Connect pressure gauge to fuel rail schraeder valve.
- Start engine. Pressure at idle = 3. 4 bar. If pressure is below 3. 4 bar, suspect the following in order: fuel hoses, filter, regulator and pump.
Refit
- Stop engine.
- Disconnect pressure gauge LRT-19-006 and adapterLRT-19-004 from fuel rail.
- Up to 03MY: Fit and tighten nut and bolt securing coil.
- Fit acoustic cover. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-158807-S29684217892005011300000) .

- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Position absorbent cloth beneath fuel pipe to catch spillage. WARNING: The spilling of fuel is unavoidable during this operation. Ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent fire and explosion.
- Disconnect fuel pipe from inlet manifold.
- Connect LRT-19-004Ato manifold and fuel pipe. NOTE: LRT-19-004X can be used as an alternative.
- Connect battery earth lead.
- Start engine. Pressure at idle = 3. 6 bar +/- 0. 2 bar.
- Stop engine. If pressure is out of tolerance suspect the following in order: fuel hoses, filter and pump.
- Remove plug, reconnect vacuum hose and secure hose with clip.
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Disconnect LRT-19-004A from fuel pipe and inlet manifold.
- Connect fuel pipe to manifold.
- Connect battery earth lead.
Drain
- Disconnect both battery leads, negative lead first.
- Remove fuel pump assembly. «19. 45. 08 PUMP - FUEL»(/land-rover/freelander/l314-2003-2006/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-delivery-system-petrol__194508-pump-fuel)
- Using a fuel recovery appliance, drain the fuel from the tank into a sealed container. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the connection and safe use of the appliance. WARNING: Fuel vapor is highly flammable and in confined spaces is also explosive and toxic. Always have a fire extinguisher containing foam, CO2, gas or powder close at hand when handling or draining fuel.
Refill

- Connect battery leads, earth lead last.

- Position fuel cut-off switch to bracket.
- Fit nuts securing fuel cut-off switch to bracket and tighten to 2 Nm (1. 5 lbf. ft).

- Connect breather hose to throttle housing and secure with clip.
- Connect multiplug to throttle position sensor.
- Fit IACV hose and align orientation marks.
- Fit lid to air cleaner and secure clips.

- Remove and discard 2 Torx screws and wave washers securing primary TP sensor to throttle body. Remove primary TP sensor and specification plate. CAUTION: Do not twist or apply leverage to throttle position sensor.
- Remove 2 Allen screws securing IACV to throttle body, remove IACV and discard gasket.

- Clean mating faces of IACV and throttle body.
- Fit new gasket, position IACV to throttle body, fit and tighten Allen screws to 6 Nm (4. 5 lbf. ft).
- Clean TP sensor and throttle body mating face.
- Fit TP sensor to throttle spindle. Ensure that during fitting the machined flat on the throttle spindle is aligned with the mating portion of the TP sensor CAUTION: The throttle position sensor can be easily damaged during fitting. When pressing the sensor onto the throttle spindle, use fingers only, and only apply pressure to the area shown shaded in the illustration.
- Rotate TP sensor in an anti-clockwise direction to align fixing holes. CAUTION: Do not rotate throttle position sensor in a clockwise direction and ensure that it is not rotated beyond its internal stops.
- Fit TP sensor specification plate.
- Fit new Torx screws and wave washers, tighten Torx screws to 1. 5 Nm _1. 0 lbf. ft).
- Vehicles with cruise control: Position actuator support bracket to throttle body. Fit Torx screws and tighten to 9 Nm (7 lbf. ft). Connect actuator arm to throttle linkage.
- Clean throttle body and mating face on inlet manifold chamber.
- Fit new seal to inlet manifold chamber.
- Position throttle body to inlet manifold chamber, fit and tighten Torx screws to 7 Nm (5 lbf. ft).
- Connect multiplugs to TP sensor and IACV.
- Vehicles with cruise control: Connect cruise control actuator vacuum hose.
- Connect primary throttle cable to throttle cam and abutment bracket.
- Connect engine breather/vacuum pipes to throttle body and IACV.

- Ensure that the seal which is already fitted on the new VIS motor is correctly positioned.
- Fit VIS motor, carefully locating drive pin into groove and seal correctly positioned on the manifold chamber.
- Fit and tighten screws securing VIS motor to inlet manifold chamber to 1. 7 Nm (1. 25 lbf. ft).
- Connect multiplug to VIS motor.

- Connect battery earth lead.

- Collect 'O' rings.
- Lubricate NEW 'O' rings with silicone grease and fit to ports.
- Carefully fit fuel filter to ports and push fully home, ensuring that sprag clips engage fully. WARNING: Ensure earthing spring fitted to fuel pressure regulator is correctly located.
- Position spring to fuel filter recess and engage in top location. WARNING: Ensure that filter earthing tag is correctly located to contact the base of fuel filter.
- Engage pump top to base, ensuring that slots engage correctly with lugs. WARNING: During refit, ensure that all electrical connections are made correctly. Earth tag on fuel pump negative terminal must not become distorted.
- Fit sender unit.
- Connect battery earth lead.

- Remove 2 fasteners securing front and rear carpets.
- Pull back loadspace carpet from fuel pump access panel.
- Remove 6 screws securing access panel. WARNING: Depressurize the system before disconnecting any components. Fuel pressure will be present in the system even if the ignition has been switched off for some time.
- Remove access panel. WARNING: The spilling of fuel is unavoidable during this operation. Ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent fire and explosion.
- Disconnect multiplug and fuel hose from fuel pump housing. CAUTION: Always fit plugs to open connections to prevent contamination.
- Use LRT-19-009 to remove locking ring from fuel pump housing.
- Remove fuel pump housing and discard sealing ring.
- Clean fuel pump housing and mating face on fuel tank.
- Fit new seal to fuel pump housing.
- Fit fuel pump housing to fuel tank, fit and tighten locking ring to 35 Nm (26 lbf. ft) using LRT-19-009.
- Connect multiplug and fuel hose to fuel pump housing.
- Fit access panel and secure with screws.
- Position carpet and secure with fasteners.
- Reposition rear seat.
- Close rear and tail doors.
- Connect battery earth lead.

- Remove propeller shaft. Refer to «REMOVAL»(/land-rover/freelander/l314-2003-2006/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#driveshafts-universal-joints__removal) .
- Remove RH rear wheel arch liner. Refer to «REMOVE»(/land-rover/freelander/l314-2003-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#exterior-fittings) .
- Release clip from breather hose and disconnect breather hose from filler neck.
- Release clip and disconnect vent hose from fuel tank on vapor separator.
- Remove tamper proof cover from filler hose clip and loosen clip.
- Support weight of rear subframe and remove 4 bolts securing subframe to body.
- Lower subframe. CAUTION: Do not allow sub frame to hang on rear brake hoses.
- With assistance, remove 4 bolts securing fuel tank to body and remove tank. NOTE: Pull vent and breather hoses through body while lowering fuel tank.
- Remove fuel tank from cradle. Collect heat and fire shields.
- Remove clips from breather hose and vent pipes.
- Disconnect breather hose and vent pipes from fuel tank.
- Connect breather hose and vent pipes to fuel tank, secure with clips.
- Position heat and fire shields. Fit cradle to fuel tank.
- With assistance, fit bolts securing fuel tank to body and tighten to 45 Nm (33 lbf. ft). NOTE: Pass vent and breather hoses through body while fitting tank.
- Raise subframe, fit bolts and tighten to 190 Nm (140 lbf. ft).
- Connect breather hose to filler neck, fit and secure clip.
- Connect vent hose to vapor separator, fit and secure clip.
- Fit RH rear wheel arch liner. Refer to «REFIT»(/land-rover/freelander/l314-2003-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#exterior-fittings) .

- Raise subframe, fit bolts and tighten to 190 Nm.
- Connect breather hose to filler neck, fit and secure clip.

- Remove fuel filler cap. CAUTION: Before disconnecting any part of the fuel system, it is imperative that all dust, dirt and debris is removed from around components to prevent ingress of foreign matter into fuel system.
- Unclip escutcheon from fuel filler neck. WARNING: Fuel vapor is highly flammable and in confined spaces is also explosive and toxic. Always have a fire extinguisher containing foam, CO2, gas or powder close at hand when handling or draining fuel.
- Remove 3 nuts securing fuel filler neck to body.
- Release clip from breather hose and disconnect breather hose from filler neck.
- Release fuel tank vent pipe from filler neck.
- Disconnect Lucar connector from fuel filler neck.
- Remove bolt securing filler neck to body.
- Remove tamper proof cover from filler hose clip and loosen clip.
- Disconnect hose from filler neck and remove filler neck assembly.
- Position filler neck assembly, connect to hose, secure clip and fit tamper proof cover.
- Fit bolt securing filler neck to body and tighten to 9 Nm (7 lbf. ft).
- Connect Lucar connector to fuel filler neck.
- Position fuel tank vent pipe around filler neck.
- Connect breather hose to filler neck, fit and secure clip.
- Fit nuts securing fuel filler neck to body and tighten to 9 Nm (7 lbf. ft).
- Clip escutcheon to fuel filler neck.
- Fit fuel filler cap.
- Fit RH rear wheel arch liner. Refer to «REFIT»(/land-rover/freelander/l314-2003-2006/remont/exterior-body-panels/#exterior-fittings) .
- Connect battery earth lead.

- Remove 2 bolts securing protection cover - if fitted - and RH fuel rail to RH inlet manifold, remove cover.
- Remove 2 bolts securing fuel rail to LH inlet manifold.
- Release clips and disconnect injector multiplugs.
- Release injectors from manifolds, raise fuel rail assembly, disconnect 4 clips securing injector harness to fuel rails and move harness aside.
- Remove fuel rail. CAUTION: Always fit plugs to open connections to prevent contamination.
- Remove and discard 'O' rings from injectors.
- Lubricate new 'O' rings with castor oil and fit to injectors.
- Remove plugs from inlet manifolds.
- Position injector harness to LH fuel rail and secure with clips.
- Position injectors and fuel rail to inlet manifolds.
- Connect multiplugs to injectors.
- Position injector cover - if fitted to RH fuel rail and secure injector harness to protection cover or to bosses on fuel rail with clips.
- Fit bolts securing fuel rail to inlet manifolds and tighten to 9 Nm (7 lbf. ft).
- Up to 03MY: Position ignition coils to LH inlet manifold.
- Up to 03MY: Position earth lead, fit nuts and bolts securing ignition coils to LH inlet manifold and tighten to 9 Nm (7 lbf. ft).

- Connect battery earth lead.

- Up to 03MY: Remove ignition coils and position aside.

- Remove plugs from inlet manifolds.

- Position injectors and fuel rail to inlet manifolds.
- Connect multiplugs to injectors.
- Fit and tighten 4 bolts securing fuel rail to inlet manifold to 8 Nm (6 lbf. ft).
- Up to 03MY: Position ignition coils to LH inlet manifold.
- Up to 03MY: Position earth lead, fit nuts and bolts securing ignition coils to LH inlet manifold and tighten to 9 Nm (7 lbf. ft).
- Position alternator and secure with nuts and bolts, tighten to 45 Nm (33 lbf. ft).
- Using a 3/8" square drive socket bar, raise ancillary drive belt tensioner and fit drive belt to pulleys.
- Fit underbelly panel. Refer to «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-159181-S00917112562004051800000) .
- Fit inlet manifold chamber. Refer to «REFIT»(/land-rover/freelander/l314-2003-2006/remont/exhaust/#manifolds-exhaust-systems-k-series-kv6) .

- Position absorbent cloth beneath fuel rail.
- Release fuel feed hose from fuel rail. CAUTION: Always fit plugs to open connections to prevent contamination.
- Remove 2 bolts securing fuel rail to inlet manifold.
- Release fuel rail and injectors from inlet manifold.
- Release and remove injector spacer.
- Disconnect multiplug from injectors.
- Remove the fuel rail complete with injectors.
- Release spring clips securing injectors to fuel rail and remove fuel injectors.
- Remove and discard 2 'O' rings from each injector.
- Fit protective caps to each end of injectors.
- Remove protective caps from each injector.
- Clean injectors and recesses in fuel rail and inlet manifold.
- Lubricate new 'O' ring with castor oil and fit to injector.
- Fit injectors to fuel rail and secure with spring clips.
- Position fuel rail assembly and connect injector multiplugs.
- Fit injector spacer.
- Push each injector into inlet manifold.
- Fit bolts securing fuel rail to inlet manifold and tighten to 8 Nm (6 lbf. ft).
- Connect fuel feed hose to fuel rail.
- Fit engine oil dipstick.
- Connect vacuum pipe to fuel pressure regulator and secure with clip.
- Connect battery earth lead.

- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove engine acoustic cover. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-158807-S40842740032005011300000) .
- Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator.
- Remove nut securing actuator to mounting bracket.
- Release operating rod from throttle cam and remove actuator.
- Position actuator and connect operating rod to throttle cam.
- Position actuator into mounting bracket, fit and tighten nut.
- Connect vacuum hose to actuator.
- Check pull rod to retainer clearance, with lever fully returned, pull rod should just be held by retainer.
- Release retainer by turning anti-clockwise, eliminate clearance then rotate retainer half turn clockwise. Check pull rod is just held and rotate retainer a further quarter turn clockwise to lock.
- Fit engine acoustic cover. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-158807-S29684217892005011300000) .
- Connect battery earth lead.

- Slide RH front seat fully rearwards.
- Remove 2 screws securing ECU cover.
- Remove cover.
- Release interface ECU from bracket and move aside.
- Remove 2 screws securing cruise control ECU.
- Disconnect multiplug from ECU and remove ECU.
- Connect multiplug to ECU.
- Position ECU and tighten screws.
- Secure interface ECU to bracket.
- Fit ECU cover and secure with screws.
- Position seat to mid position.

- Slide RH front seat fully rearwards.
- Remove 2 screws securing ECU cover.
- Remove cover.
- Release interface ECU from bracket, disconnect multiplug and remove ECU.
