DESCRIPTION

Note. For heated mirrors, see WINDOW DEFOGGERS & HEATED MIRRORS article. For electro-chromatic mirrors, see ELECTRO-CHROMATIC MIRRORS article.

Each power mirror assembly contains 2 reversible motors: an up/down motor and a left/right motor. Mirror control switch reverses polarity of motor circuit to change direction of mirror movement. Range Rover is available with a memory seat/mirror system (includes reverse mirror dipping function).

Discovery Series II

Power mirrors operate with ignition in RUN (II) position. Power mirror control switch is located at lower left side of instrument panel, under vent. Turn control knob from middle OFF position to "L" or "R" position to select either left or right side mirror. Turn ignition to RUN (II) position. Push control knob in appropriate direction to tilt mirror glass up or down and left or right. When adjustment is complete, return control knob to OFF position. Door mirrors include integral heating elements used to disperse ice or mist from glass. Heating elements operate in conjunction with heated rear window defogger.

Range Rover

Power mirrors operate with ignition in ON (I) or RUN (II) positions. Mirrors are operated by a multifunction direction switch and a separate switch to select left or right hand mirror. Both switches are located on the center console switch panel. Mirror selection switch provides a ground path, which BECM interprets as left or right hand mirror position. When direction switch is operated, an appropriate signal is sent from center console switch outstation, via serial data bus, to BECM. The BECM interprets the signal and sends a signal, via serial data bus, to applicable door outstation to activate output and operate mirror in selected direction. Mirror motor direction is changed by reversing polarity of outputs from door outstation.

Memory mirror system allows the driver to store the horizontal and vertical position of each mirror. The storage and recall functions of the memory mirror system are controlled using driver-side memory seat control switches. When a seating position is stored in memory, the mirror setting at that time will also be stored.

Reverse mirror dipping repositions outside rear view mirrors for increased visibility when backing up. The mirror memory system has a pre-stored function which causes mirrors to dip automatically whenever ignition switch in RUN (II) position and reverse gear is selected. Vehicles equipped with an A/T will have a 0.5 second delay following reverse gear selection prior to mirror dip position being recalled.

REVERSE MIRROR DIPPING

Note. Mirror dip function can be individually disabled or restored for either seat memory positions No. 1 or 2. Select appropriate memory position before disabling or enabling function.

Setting Mirror Dipping (Range Rover)

Turn ignition to ON (I) or RUN (II) position without starting engine. Select reverse gear. Adjust either or both mirrors to the desired positions. Press seat MEMORY STORE switch and at the same time, either switch No. 1 or 2 (whichever corresponds with the driver's seat memory) and hold for 2 seconds. Message center will display MIRROR DIP STORE when completed.

Disabling Mirror Dipping (Range Rover)

Turn ignition to ON (I) or RUN (II) position without starting engine. Select reverse gear. Press seat MEMORY STORE switch and hold for 2 seconds. Message center will display MIRROR DIP OFF and a tone will sound when mirror dip function is disabled.

Enabling Mirror Dipping (Range Rover)

Turn ignition to ON (I) or RUN (II) position without starting engine. Select reverse gear. Press seat MEMORY STORE switch and hold for 2 seconds. Message center will briefly display MIRROR DIP ON. Mirrors will return to default factory positions or last preset positions.

Remove switch from lower left side of instrument panel. Disconnect Black 8-pin power mirror adjusting switch connector. Check switch continuity between specified switch terminals with switch in up/down and left/right positions. (Scheme 1) See CHECKING POWER MIRROR ADJUSTING SWITCH CONTINUITY table. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity is does not exist as specified, replace switch.
