ENGINE IDENTIFICATION CODE
Specifications are determined by specific compression ratios which are stamped on the engine blocks. (Scheme 1)

REPLACEMENT INTERVALS
BELT ADJUSTMENT
This vehicle is equipped with a serpentine belt and automatic tensioner. No adjustments are required.
ENGINE COMPRESSION
Check engine compression with engine at normal operating temperature at specified cranking speed, all spark plugs removed and throttle wide open.

IGNITION TIMING ADVANCE
DISTRIBUTOR PICK UP AIR GAP
Air gap of the distributor pick up should be 0.008-0.014" (0.20-0.35 mm).
Regulated Fuel Pressure
Regulated fuel pressure should be 35-37 psi (2.4-2.6 kg/cm 2 ). Pressure will vary depending on amount of intake manifold vacuum acting on fuel pressure regulator.
IDLE SPEED
Note. Before setting idle speed, ensure MIL is not on, no DTCs are stored, ignition timing is correct, spark plugs and air cleaner are okay and PCV system is operating properly.

IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS
MIXTURE
CO level for this vehicle at idle should be 0.5-1.0%.
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
Note. Throttle Position (TP) sensor is not adjustable. For testing procedures, see SELF-DIAGNOSTICS or SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Throttle Position (TP) sensor operating range is 0.8-5 volts. If TP sensor should fail, Engine Control Module (ECM) will default to a value of 5.76 volts and set the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
