GENERAL
Note. Any reference to "axle shafts" in this article is referring to solid axle (non-independent suspension) differential assembly internal shafts. Axle shafts are what transfer driveline power from differentials to the wheel hubs. Any reference to "propeller shafts" in this article is referring to drive shafts. Propeller (drive) shafts are what transfer driveline power from transmissions and transfer cases to the differentials.

- Measure the axle shaft end play using a dial indicator. Standard value: 0-0.05 mm (0-0.002 in.)
- If the axle shaft end play exceeds the standard value, replace the bearing with a new one.
GEAR OIL LEVEL CHECK
- Remove the filler plug and check the quantity of oil in the differential carrier.
- Differential carrier is full if oil level is near the height of filler plug hole.
Specified gear oil
Hypoid gear oil
Conventional differential
SAE 90, API GL-5
With Limited Slip Differential (LSD)
SAE 85W90, API GL-5
SPECIFIED GEAR OIL QUANTITY: 1.6 Liter

- Remove the disc brake and parking brake assembly. See «DISC BRAKES»(ref-163433) .
- Remove the parking brake cable and speed sensor cable.
- Remove the rear axle shaft mounting bolts.
- Remove the rear axle shaft.
- Using the special tool (09526-11100), remove the oil seal.

- Installation is the reverse of removal.
- Apply grease to the oil seal lip.
- Using the special tools (09500-11000, 09532-11500), install the oil seal.
- After installing the axle shaft, tighten the nut. Tightening torque: 43-60 N.m (4.4-6.2 kg. m, 32-44 lb. ft)
- Adjust the parking brake lever stroke.

PROPELLER SHAFT
Align the match marks on the flange yoke and companion flange, and install the propeller shaft.
Tightening torque
50-60 Nm (500-600 kg. cm, 37-44 lb. ft)
