BELT DEFLECTION

Using a belt tension gauge, measure belt deflection midway on belt. New belt deflection should be 86-103 lbs. (39-47 kg). Used belt deflection should be 68-86 lbs. (31-39 kg). Adjust belts as necessary.

BEARING

Check for abnormal noise, looseness and insufficient lubrication. Replace bearing if necessary.

BRUSH

New brush length is .85" (21.5 mm). Minimum brush length is .32" (8.0 mm). If brushes are worn beyond limit, replace them.

RECTIFIER

Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between each diode. See DIODE CONTINUITY table. (Scheme 5) If continuity is not as specified, replace rectifier.

ROTOR

Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between slip rings. If resistance is not between 3.5-4.5 ohms, replace rotor. Check for continuity between slip ring and core. If continuity exists, replace rotor. If slip ring surface is rough, correct using smooth lathe or fine sandpaper.

STATOR

Using ohmmeter, check continuity between stator coil leads. If no continuity exists, replace stator. Check continuity between stator coil leads and core. If continuity exists, replace stator.
