Instrument Panel & Gauges: Overview Kia Optima I

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Battery voltage is fed to the instrument cluster through METER (10-amp) fuse, located in fuse box. Indicator lights and gauges are active when the ignition switch is in ON or START position. Indicator lights and gauges receive signals from either a switch or variable resistance sending unit.

Instrument cluster houses driver-operated switches and controls. An analog electric speedometer, stepper motor-driven odometer, trip meter analog fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and information warning center are located in cluster.

WARNINGDeactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

Note. Anytime battery cables are disconnected from battery and then reconnected, theft deterrent system will operate (horn will sound and emergency lights will flash for about 3 minutes). To disarm system, insert ignition key and turn key to ACC position.
