DRIVE BELT TENSION

Using a belt tension gauge, measure drive belt tension midway on longest belt run. See GENERATOR DRIVE BELT TENSION table. Adjust drive belt as necessary.

ApplicationLbs. (Kg.)
Optima & Magentis (Canadian)
New Belt121-143 (55-65)
Used Belt77-99 (35-45)
Rio, Sephia, Spectra & Sportage
New Belt86-103 (39-47)

BEARING

Check for abnormal noise, looseness and insufficient lubrication. Replace bearing if necessary.

BRUSH

Note. Brush specification for Optima & Magentis (Canadian) and Rio is not available from manufacturer.

On Sephia, Spectra and Sportage, new brush length is .85" (21.5 mm). Minimum brush length is .32" (8.0 mm). If brushes are worn beyond limit, replace them.

RECTIFIER

Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between each diode. See DIODE CONTINUITY table. (Scheme 8) If continuity is not as specified, replace rectifier.

ROTOR

Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between slip rings. If resistance is not 3.5-4.5 ohms, replace rotor. Check for continuity between slip ring and core. If continuity exists, replace rotor. If slip ring surface is rough, correct using smooth lathe or fine sandpaper.

STATOR

Using ohmmeter, check continuity between stator coil leads. If continuity does not exist, replace stator. Check continuity between stator coil leads and core. If continuity exists, replace stator.
