SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT

The seat belt warning light alerts the driver to buckle the seat belt. It operates when the ignition switch is first turned to the "ON" position, whether or not the belts are buckled. It will go off automatically after several seconds.

BRAKE AND BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT

The BRAKE warning light, in the instrument cluster, indicates a loss or difference of hydraulic pressure. To test the bulb, turn the ignition switch to START position. The light should glow Red. If the bulb does not light have it repaired immediately. The same light will also illuminate with the ignition on and the parking brake applied. The BRAKE warning light does not indicate brake fluid level in the master cylinder.

CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT

The CHECK ENGINE warning light, in instrument cluster, indicates a potential engine control problem and need for service and soon as possible.

4WD Indicator Light

Indicates that the car is in 4WD mode.

Trip Odometer Reset Button

Push to reset odometer to zero.

Upshift Indicator Light (Except California Vehicles)

Glows when driver should shift to the next higher gear for best fuel economy. (Selected 4-cylinder vehicles only.)

Emission Maintenance Indicator Light (1989-90)

Illuminates at approximately 82,500 miles to indicate that the PCV valve and oxygen sensor are scheduled for replacement.

Engine Oil Pressure Gauge

The oil pressure gauge indicates engine oil pressure, but not oil level. Normal readings are 20-65 psi in city driving, 45-65 psi at highway speeds. Pressure varies with engine speed, temperature, and oil viscosity. Hot engine idle pressure of 13 psi is satisfactory. Consistent lower readings indicate possible malfunction.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge

Indicates engine coolant temperature. The Red zone to the far right indicates possible overheating.

Fuel

Indicates approximate fuel level.

Voltmeter

Indicates available battery voltage and charging system band. The lower Red band indicates battery charge may be too low to start the engine. With engine running, the normal operating range is 11-15 volts. A prolonged gauge readings of less than 8-11 volts, or above 15 volts, indicate possible malfunction of alternator, voltage regulator or battery.

Tachometer

Indicates engine speed in revolutions per minute. Normally, engine power increases as speed increases up to a point where over-revving actually reduces engine power.

Speedometer

The speedometer indicates vehicle speed in miles per hour and kilometers per hour.

Odometer

Registers distance traveled in statute miles coordinated with the speedometer. An internal device prevents turning the odometer backward.
