Engine Oil Pan Removal Jeep Wrangler I

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold.
  2. Disconnect exhaust pipe hanger at catalytic converter and lower exhaust pipe. Remove starter motor. Remove torque converter access cover. Remove oil pan bolts. Remove oil pan. (Scheme 15)

Installation

To install, reverse removal procedure. Torque oil pan bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of this article. Fill crankcase with 4 qts. (3.8L) of engine oil (with filter). Check for leaks.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Lock steering wheel. Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil. Remove starter motor. Remove torque converter access cover. Remove oil pan bolts. Remove oil pan by sliding it to the rear. (Scheme 16)

To install, reverse removal procedure. Torque oil pan bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of this section. On 4.0L engine, fill crankcase with 6 qts. (5.7L) of engine oil (with filter). On 4.2L engine, fill crankcase with 5 qts. (4.7L) of engine oil (with filter). Check for leaks.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove starter motor. Drain engine oil. Remove oil pan bolts. Remove oil pan. (Scheme 17)

To install, reverse removal procedure. Torque oil pan bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of this article. Fill crankcase with 5 qts. (4.7L) of engine oil (with filter). Check for leaks.
