BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
The "BRAKE" warning light, in the instrument cluster, indicates a loss or difference of hydraulic pressure. To test the bulb, turn the ignition switch to "START" position. The light should glow Red. If the bulb does not light, have it repaired immediately. The same light will also illuminate with the ignition on and the parking brake applied. The "BRAKE" warning light does not indicate brake fluid level in the master cylinder.
Oil Pressure
The oil pressure gauge indicates engine oil pressure, but not oil level. Normal pressures is 20-60 psi in city driving, 45-60 psi at highway speeds. Pressure varies with engine speed, temperature, and oil viscosity. Cold engines have higher pressures. Sudden turns or stops can cause a momentary pressure drop. A hot engine idle pressure of 13 psi is satisfactory.
Ammeter
Ammeter indicates battery charging or discharging. With ignition and all accessories turned off, gauge pointer should indicate zero. Immediately after starting, the pointer may indicate a high rate of charge (+). As the battery charges, the pointer will move toward zero. When the battery charges, the pointer will be on the plus (+) side (charge). At engine idle speed with accessories and the tailgate window defogger on, the pointer may indicate slight discharge.
